Chapter 730: Jennie's Incident
Jared's lips curled into a smile, his eyes sparkling like stars. Even Tina, who prided herself on being accustomed to good looks, was dazzled by his god-like beauty. He was hers. A fierce possessiveness rose from the depths of her heart, quickly reaching her eyes. Unconcealed, Tina threw her soaked dress aside, her pale arms encircling Jared's neck.C0ntent © 2024 (N/ô)velDrama.Org.
"What are you smiling at?"
Jared's eyes flickered.
"I've already shared my thoughts. Now is not the right time, so it must be endured for a while."
Tina scoffed, "Shameless, who's really being put out here?"
"Aren't you concerned about Elsa?"
Jared asked, just before their lips met, posing one last question for the evening.
Tina had no chance to reply as the ambiguous moans in the bathroom filled the air. In the haze of her mind, Tina thought she heard her phone ring. The next second, Jared pulled her into an endless sea of desire, and she forgot everything. Reed family.
The clock pointed straight at midnight.
Hugo sat on the bed, sleepless. He held his phone, watching Jennie unconscious on the monitor. Looking at the email on his computer, it felt as though a massive stone weighed down on his chest, making it hard to breathe. "I want to see the news of Reed Group severing the endorsement contract with Juliet by tomorrow," the email read.
These few lines had left him in fear for days, and now his heart trembled again. He opened and closed Tina's contact in his phone, looking years older all of a sudden. His once gentle and resilient eyes were now filled with world-weariness. After a long while, a deep sigh echoed in the empty room.
What should he do now?
The next day.
Tina and Jared decided not to follow the path others expected of them, which suddenly gave them much more time. Seizing the opportunity, they brought Hayden to the Reed family.
"Mr. Farrell, with so many cars in your garage, do I really need to be the driver?"
Hayden followed Tina into the house.
Heaven knows, he had stayed up with Paula until dawn the previous night. Just as he had fallen asleep, Tina's call came. He dared not disobey Serena's orders. Still dazed, he was already at the young couple's apartment building. Jared showed no remorse.
"Any objections?"
"No objections, no objections," Hayden's head shook like a bobblehead.
"After all, apart from being with Paula, I haven't had much else to do recently."
Jared stopped and turned back, "What? You've been suspended?"
"How could that be!" Hayden almost jumped, "General Praevion is currently fixated on thoroughly investigating the X Bureau. Right now, unless you're an important figure, everyone is essentially unemployed at home. Christopher and Linden are in the same boat, and those with assignments receive direct orders from General Praevion."
At that moment, he remembered something.
"Oh, by the way, Nathan called you yesterday but couldn't reach you. He asked me to tell you that Eric has been found."
Jared nodded, "I've already had him taken back to the Lyon family."
"Back to the Lyon family?"
Hayden didn't understand, wasn't this akin to releasing a tiger back into the wild?
Jared hummed an acknowledgment, showing no intention of explaining, and followed Tina upstairs. "Hugo? Jennie?"
Tina called out several times both upstairs and downstairs, with no response. Her expression grew uneasy.
She had called this morning and received no answer. If there hadn't been silence from Reed Group's side, she wouldn't have felt reassured enough to come to the house.
If she couldn't find anyone soon, she'd have to use the Shadow Lotus Seal to search the entire city!
Quickly, Tina reached the master bedroom door on the second floor and pushed it open.
Seeing the person inside, Tina paused, "Why didn't you respond when I called you?"
Hugo was sitting upright at his desk.
Dressed in a suit and tie, he looked ready to step out at any moment, yet he just sat there, typing furiously at his computer.
"Hmm?"
Hugo looked up blankly, as if he had just heard Tina's voice, "Tina, what brings you here?"
Tina's clear eyes shifted as she noticed the fine beads of sweat on Hugo's forehead.
She glanced at the air conditioner blowing above and spoke softly, "I called you yesterday, and you didn't answer. I came to check on you. Are you feeling hot? It's only 26 degrees outside, why have you turned on the air conditioner?" "I, I just did some exercise. Felt a bit hot, so I turned it on to cool down for a bit," Hugo replied, loosening his tie.
He was a man too honest to lie.
Jared followed Tina into the room, glanced around, and furrowed his brows before turning to look at Hayden.
He whispered something into Hayden's ear, causing Hayden's expression to change.
Hugo's heart skipped a beat. Just as he was about to speak, he saw that the two paid no attention to him. He opened his mouth but then stood up decisively, "Don't just stand here. Let's go to the living room. You and your sister are both busy. It's rare for you to be together. What would you like for lunch today? I'll cook it for you."
Tina kept her eyes fixed on Hugo, "You decide, I'm good with anything."
She paused then looked around the room again, "Where's Jennie? Did you send her on a business trip?"
"Ah, right!" Hugo hesitated for two seconds, "The company has just started, there's a lot to do, and I couldn't handle it all alone, so I sent her away."
Father and daughter talked as they made their way downstairs.
Hayden entered from outside and gave Jared a confirming look.
The man wrapped his arm around Tina, in front of Hugo, "You should come and stay with us for a while. Tina and I are free for some time now, and with Jennie away, Tina worries about you." Under normal circumstances.
Hugo, seeing them like this, would usually be visibly upset, his paternal instincts taking over!
But today, for some reason, he seemed distracted.
Seeing Jared's gesture, his eyes passed a trace of nostalgia that was hard for others to understand.
Tina pursed her lips, speaking before a hesitant Hugo could refuse, "Is there something you're hiding from me?"
Almost reflexively, Hugo sharply turned to Tina.
Then quickly shook his head, "No, what could I possibly hide from you? I'm fine, really, you two..."
"Uncle Reed, the surveillance in the room is temporarily down. You can speak freely, no one will hear what you say now," Hayden interjected, thinking he was still in denial.
Thinking he was afraid of the villa's eavesdropping and surveillance equipment, Hayden gently reminded him.
But, no sooner had he finished his sentence than Hugo's expression drastically changed, "You mean the surveillance in the room is down?!"
Startled by his fierce look, Hayden took a few steps back, "Yes, you..."
Before he could finish, Hugo bolted out like an arrow released from a bow, "Jennie!"
