Fated to the Ruthless CEO

His Grandma’s Last Will

Amber woke up to feeling something heavy on her chest. She slowly opened her eyes and suddenly froze to her spot. She is in Devlin’s room. She saw his hand on her chest. Slowly, she moved her head to look at Devlin.

To her relief, he is still sleeping soundly. She slowly removed his hand from her chest. Then, carefully got off from his bed. She walked on tiptoes until she reached the door. She slowly turned the knob afraid to make any sounds that would wake him up. The moment she got out of his room, she let out a deep sigh.

‘That was close.’ She said to herself. She went to her room to check her phone. It is half an hour past six in the morning. She decided to get ready for the day. She did her daily exercise for half an hour this time. Then, she proceeded to make breakfast for Devlin. She made a special chicken soup for him. She also made some toasted bread, fried some eggs and bacon.

After she was done in the kitchen, she took a shower in her room. She wears beige cotton shorts and white t-shirt. She does not realize it but wearing shorts really shows off her long legs, making her more attractive. She is a tall woman and has a slender body.

She went to the kitchen to check whether Devlin had come downstairs. But the kitchen is empty. It is almost 8 am. She decided to check on him. She knocked three times first before she got inside his room. She found the bed empty but very messy. Covers and some pillows were on the ground. She heard the sound of water inside the bathroom.

She hurriedly made the bed before Devlin could finish his shower. She picked the pillows. She changed the covers and took the ones from the ground to the laundry bin.

She immediately left his room once she finished tidying up his bed. She will just have to wait for him in the kitchen.

It did not take long for her to wait. She saw Devlin coming to the kitchen looking fresh.

“Good morning.” She greeted him with a smile. He didn’t say anything to her but simply nodded his head.

‘That’s a good start, at least he looks calm right now.’ Amber thought to herself.

She immediately stood up to bring him a cup of black coffee. Then, she served him a bowl of the chicken soup she made earlier. She just heated it up again. While waiting, she was staring at Devlin who was holding his head with both hands.

“Is your head still hurting? I have medicine here for you.” She offered but Devlin only waved his hand and was still looking down.

“Here, I made you a chicken soup. It will help.” Still, no response from Devlin. She also started serving the food she cooked earlier. She just heated them quickly.

A few minutes later, Devlin looked at the soup in front of him. Then, he quietly took a spoon and started eating. He reached out for the toasted bread. Amber did not say anything to him while eating quietly. She is just carefully observing his every action.

Devlin finished his bowl of chicken soup and his cup of coffee. He left the kitchen without saying anything. Amber thought he would go back to his room but instead he went to the living room. He turned on the TV while laying down comfortably on the couch.

Amber wonders why he is just relaxing in the living room. Aren’t they going to do something today? He must have forgotten it but before she could go inform him, he immediately appeared in the kitchen.

“Be ready in half an hour.” Devlin said still with his serious voice. Amber simply nodded at him. She went to change into a casual floral dress. She feels comfortable with the dress. She puts her hair in a ponytail. She added a light pink lipstick to complete her look. She took her purse with her before she got out of the room.

She saw Devlin waiting for her in the living room. He was wearing casual jeans and a white collar shirt. He paired it with a white sneakers. Devlin always looks good regardless of what clothes he wears or whatever mood he is into. Amber could only sigh slightly before he let Devlin pull her outside.

It took them almost half an hour to reach their destination. Amber found out that it was the house of Grandma Olivia. That is where Attorney Harrison set up the reading for the last will of Devlin’s grandmother.Original from NôvelDrama.Org.

“Good morning everyone. I see everyone is already here.” That was Attorney Harrison. Everyone is already seated on the sofa at Grandma Olivia’s library. Amber saw Raven and Dalton sitting together. Then, she saw the older couples. They must be Devlin’s parents.

Amber realized that they were only waiting for them. Devlin’s parents were looking at her with curiosity. They must be waiting for their son to introduce her.

“Good morning, Attorney Harrison. I am sorry that we came late.” Devlin said but did not provide any explanation. Then they heard his mom clearing her throat.

“Good morning, son. How are you doing? Do you have something important to tell us before we start?” Devlin’s mother looks like in her mid-fifties. She still looks beautiful.

“Good morning everyone, mom, dad, Dalton… Raven.” Devlin casually said. He put his hand on Amber’s waist. He could not understand why Raven had to join them. I mean she is not officially a family member yet. She is just the girlfriend of his brother while Amber is already his wife. He took a deep breath to calm himself down.

“And this is Amber Adams…uh… Wesley. She is my wife.” Devlin looked at his parents with the same nonchalant look he gave the moment they arrived in his grandmother’s house.

“Oh nice to meet you, Amber.” Although Devlin’s mother already knew about the marriage from Dalton but still she is shocked to hear it directly from her son.

“How come you never informed us that you were getting married? And worst, you never invited any of us. Don’t you think that what you did is outrageously disrespectful towards your family?” It was his father who looked at him with anger in his eyes. His face turned red and the vein on his forehead was visible. He is trying his best to control his anger.

“Please calm down. It is not good for your health.” It was his mom who held her husband’s hands.

“Uhmm…could we please proceed with what we all came here for? And may I suggest that you could discuss family matters after this.” It was the authoritative voice of Attorney Harrison that helped lessen the tension.

“I am sorry, Attorney Harrison. Please proceed.” It was Devlin’s mom who spoke on behalf of everyone. Dalton and Raven were quietly sitting in their spot.

“Alright, before I continue reading the last will of my good friend, Olivia. I would like to announce that the presence of Mrs. Amber Wesley here is important.”

“Uhmm…a few months ago, Olivia changed a portion of her last will with credible witnesses to vouch that she was of the right mind when she made her decision. No one forced her against her will.” Everyone was listening attentively in the room except for Devlin. He looked bored and was just putting his head on top of the couch’s headrest.

“Why did my mother never tell me about any of this?!” It was Devlin’s dad whose voice resonated the whole place.

“Dalton please, calm down. We haven’t started yet.” His wife’s gentle voice at least calmed him down. Yes, his brother’s name was taken after their father.

“Everyone, shall we proceed?” Attorney Harrison looked at the faces of the Wesley family. They simply nodded at him to continue.

“Very well…” And Attorney Harrison proceeded to read the last will of the late Olivia Wesley.

“I hereby distribute my estate as follows…” One by one, Attorney Harrison mentioned the name of each Wesley family member.

“And last but not the least, Olivia made an addendum to his last will.” Everyone was surprised except Devlin. He already knew beforehand. Amber was nervous because she thought this is what Devlin was referring to.

“To my dearest Amber, I bequeath a prime lot that is located…..” Amber could not believe what she just heard. She basically inherited a good amount of fortune from Grandma Olivia. And her house would be shared with her and Devlin. Everyone was just as stunned as Amber when the reading of the last will of Olivia was done.

“I need to have a copy of that last will.” It was Devlin’s brother who broke the silence. No one said anything. They were just too stunned to speak well except of course Devlin who does not even show any care at all. But deep inside, he is seething with anger.

“Sure, Mr. Wesley. You are welcome to check but it does not change the fact that this piece of paper here is legal and binding and has complied with the local laws and regulations.” Attorney Harrison said with finality. The family members are free to contest what’s written in the last will of Olivia but at the end, it is legit.

Dalton walked to the lawyer and checked the authenticity of the document. “From the looks of it, this is real with the authentic signature of grandma.” Dalton announced to everyone and he specifically looked towards his parents.

“I can’t believe why this is happening. What did your wife do to make my mom change her last will?” The question was directed at Devlin who is still wearing a blank face in front of everyone.

“Why are you asking me? I am not the right person to answer your question.” He said with a grimmed expression.

“And what about you? What did you do?” This time, the question was directed at Amber who is still shocked herself. Now, she could feel the animosity from the Wesley family except from Raven who only gave her a curious look.

“I am sorry, Mr. Wesley, I also have no idea why grandma Olivia would do this. I just know that she and my grandmother were childhood friends. They grew up together from the orphanage.” That piece of information surprised the older Wesley.

“Say that again? How sure is my mom that your grandmother was her childhood friend? When was the last time they met? I heard about a friend of hers from the orphanage but she never saw her for the longest time. Then, out of nowhere, you and your grandmother suddenly appeared! How strange is that.” He said with an accusing voice.

“And what about your marriage to my son? What is this all about? Devlin, do you have anything to do with this?”

“Me? The hell…” Devlin yelled. He never meant to do that to his father but his accusing tone made him angry as well. He has been busy thinking of what would be his next move now that he knew exactly how much Amber got from his grandmother. He was mentally strangling her in his head. How can such an innocent looking woman manipulate his poor grandmother?

“Devlin! Respect your father!” It was his mom who interrupted their heated discussion.

“Uhmmm…everyone, I advise that we should arrange a meeting to discuss and clarify everything. Mr. Wesley, you can bring your own lawyer for fact-checking.” Attorney Harrison suggested.

“There is no need to do that. I can represent my father.” It was Devlin’s older brother.

“Then, it is settled. I want all of you to go home for now. We can discuss this again when emotions are not too high. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen. And Ms. Amber, may I have your time please even for a couple of minutes?” It was Attorney Harrison.

Amber looked at everyone. Then, she looked at Devlin who only nodded at her. “I will wait for you in the living room.” That’s all Devlin said to her and everyone else left the library.
