Chasing Back My Ex-wife

Chapter 46

Chapter 46

"Who's throwing things about?" A driver shouted from behind.

Lucy didn't pay him any attention. She grabbed a bag from the backseat and took a one-piece from it, then put it on messily.

Disappointment, relief, bitterness, humiliation, and other vague emotions filled her. She lit a cigarette and took a long drag, then stepped on the gas.

Behind her, two black cars followed her silently like predators lurking in the dark.

At first, Lucy didn't notice the two cars. It wasn't until they followed her for 15 minutes and got closer and closer that she sensed something unusual.

She thought she may be overthinking, so she sped up at the last minute, wanting to see how the two cars would react.

The cars also sped up all of a sudden and even tried to close the distance between them!

Lucy's expression changed. She tossed the cigarette into the ashtray and grabbed her phone. Her first thought was to call Arthur.

The drivers seemed to have guessed what she wanted to do, and one of them suddenly drove faster and stopped in front of Lucy. Meanwhile, the other car stopped behind her, trapping her in the middle.

Bang!

Their movements were too sudden. Lucy didn't have time to stop and collided with the car in front.

Her head slammed into the airbag from inertia, but her leg was injured and warm blood trickled down it.

She struggled to look up and saw two men getting out of the cars, walking towards her car.

Arthur still wasn't answering his phone. The robotic female voice seemed to be mocking her. "Sorry, but the person you're calling is currently unavailable. Please call again later." This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.

Lucy bit her lip hard. Arthur was so worried about Lizbeth having a heart attack, so how would he answer her call at such a critical moment?

Hah! She must have really gone mad to be asking him for help!

She gave up the idea of asking him for help and wanted to call the police. However, because of the collision, her phone had skidded to the passenger seat. Her body was in so much pain that she could not move at all, and she couldn't reach her phone.

At the same time, the incident had attracted the attention of many other drivers. Many of them were blaming the two men——

"How is the person inside?"

"Do you guys even know how to drive? The Audi was going at a normal speed, so how would it collide with you two for no reason?"

The fatter man among the two was explaining to the crowd, "The car suddenly lost control. We don't know what happened either, but don't worry. We'll send her to the hospital. We won't hit and run!"

While he was explaining, the other man had already opened the car door and carried Lucy in his arms.

Feeling dizzy, she tried her best to ask the crowd for help. "They're bad people. Please... please help me call the police!"

"Miss, you misunderstand us. Our car went out of control just now, so we hit you. We are not bad people!"

"Yup, even if we are bad people, we wouldn't dare to commit a crime in public! We're a federal society. Who would dare kidnap someone in front of a crowd?"

"Exactly. If you guys are still worried, you may take a picture of us. If something happens to this lady, you can call the police to arrest us!"

They spoke so sincerely that the crowd's suspicions were dispelled immediately, and they dispersed.

Lucy wanted to say something more, but the one carrying her pressed a knife to her waist and threatened her with a fake smile. "If you dare say anything, I'll stab you here and now!"

...

In the taxi.

Buzz—

Buzz—

Buzz—

The phone kept vibrating tirelessly.

Arthur only finished with work at 3 a.m. the night before, and he was so tired that he had drifted off to sleep in the taxi. He couldn't hear his phone vibrating.

"Sir, your phone is ringing!" The taxi driver saw that Arthur's phone kept vibrating, so he kindly alerted that slightly intimidating customer of his.

Arthur opened his eyes just as his phone stopped vibrating. He switched it on and saw a notification for a missed call. It said, "Wifey, rang for 30 seconds."

Just as he was wondering why she had called him, his phone rang again. This time, it was Lizbeth.

"Arthur, are you... are you here yet? I... I can't hold on any longer. It's... it's so painful!" She was obviously in tears this time, and Arthur could tell that she was in great pain.

Arthur didn't really like this delicate and clingy childhood sweetheart of his very much, but he had to consider the bond between their families. Besides, her life was in danger. "I'll be there in a moment. Call an ambulance and take the medicine you always carry around.'

"No, I... I just want to... want to see you right now! Arthur, I... I feel terrible. I'm dying... I'm dying! I'm so

scared... I'm very scared. Come quick, okay?" Her voice was full of fear.

Arthur hated that kind of pampered attitude the most. "I won't be so quick. Don't fool around with your life!"

"I don't want them to help me. I want you, Arthur! If you don't come see me, I'll just die then!" Lizbeth didn't wait for his answer and hung up right away.

Arthur looked at the blank screen and frowned.

Lizbeth had spoken without any pauses in that last sentence. She didn't sound like she was in that much pain at all. Could she be lying to him?

However, he soon abandoned this idea. Even if Lizbeth was childish at times, she wouldn't use her life as a prank.

"Drive faster!" Arthur urged the driver, then called Lucy.

"Sorry, the number you have dialed is currently unavailable. Please call again later."

After hearing the same sentence three times in a row, his patience was worn thin.

He thought, 'Lucy, don't play this kind of trick with me! Answer the phone!'

Arthur sent her a text, and when the text was sent successfully, he dialed her number again. However, this time, the operator told him that Lucy had switched off her phone!

"Turn around!" He suddenly felt a little uneasy. Even if she was unreasonable, she knew her limits and wouldn't do something immature like that.

The taxi driver turned to look at him and said, "Sir, I can't turn around here. If I turn around here, I'll get fined. I'll have to make a U-turn at the next junction."

"I said, turn around!" Arthur repeatedly stormily. His intimidating aura filled the car.

The driver got scared and turned the steering wheel at once.

Fortunately, there weren't many cars on the road at that hour. He wouldn't cause an accident by making a U-turn like that, just break traffic laws at most.

The driver breathed a sigh of relief, and only then did he realize that his back was drenched in cold sweat.

That customer of his was simply too terrifying!

Arthur's heart was beating very fast and his eyelids were twitching. He felt very uneasy.

He dialed Lucy's number again with a sliver of hope that he would be lucky enough to hear her pick up this time.
