Chapter 885
Chapter 885 The End of Their Road 1
William went to great lengths to protect Emelie and her mother. He had secretly hidden her mother away long ago and never told Emelie anything.
Emelie only found out everything through Charles, Bryan, and even Beathan. She never never once heard from William himself.
It didn't stop there. Three years ago, Wesley had given her a task to lead an acquisition for the Filo Group that included taking over SAM
During the process, she encountered a formidable competitor from Cedonia. Wesley deliberately hid the identity of the rival, but Emelie quickly recognized the style of her opponent.
It was William.
And, of course, William recognized who he was up against. He had always known. Just as she knew him so well, he knew her, too.
He had trained Emelie personally. How would he not know that his opponent was her?
Last night at the manor, Emelie had dinner with Jaime. He was the CEO of SAM, and he came to attend her wedding.
As they reminisced about the past, the acquisition of SAM came up, and Jaime casually mentioned that he and William were close friends, despite their age difference.
"What's the saying? 'Everything happens for a reason"!" Jaime cheered.
Jaime, the elderly Faldorian who was well past his prime, was already tipsy after half a glass of wine. He was switching between Wyvernian and Cedonian as he spoke.
"Honestly, I'm glad that Will lost to you back then. Otherwise, we wouldn't have known each other. It'd be such a shame if I hadn't become friends with such an interesting young lady like you," he said.
Emelie smiled faintly. "You're the first to call me interesting. I'm usually quite dull."
He continued, "That's because I have a keen eye! Hmm. I also find Will interesting. You know, he once told me I was the first to call him that as well. You must know Will too if you've spent time in Capebatt City."
"Will? Do you mean William? It sounds like you're pretty close to him," Emelie said.
He said, "Of course! We've known each other for over a decade. He's a very good friend of mine. Now, if I can admit it, I hoped that he would be the one to take over SAM back then. He even traveled to Mercianna. I was fully expecting him to win, but you were the one who succeeded in the end.
"Oh! By the way, you two almost met. But for some reason, he decided not to go to the restaurant that day..."
And what did all that mean? It meant that William most likely knew that Emelie hadn't died from his arrow three years ago. He knew she was with the Filo Group, and she was within the Filo family.
No wonder William bought that house in Borealis City.
He also talked about taking her skiing in the future. He wasn't planning to take her ashes to go skiing, as she once mocked. Rather, he knew she was alive. He knew that his plans weren't just wishful thinking.
Just how much had he kept from her?
Emelie felt as though a sledgehammer hit her heart, each pulse echoing with pain.
"William, do you think you're some kind of hero? That you're admirable?" she said.
She pressed on. "Do you enjoy taking on all these burdens, suffering in silence? Meanwhile, the world remains clueless to your sacrifice, unaware of your noble acts?
"You're just waiting for the day when the truth comes out, that those who wronged you will finally see they were mistaken, huh? Then, they'll be filled with regret and guilt. Is that the kind of drama you're after?"
William saw the bloodshot look in her eyes. His emotions swelled like a tide, overwhelming his self-control.
"Angel, I never thought that way. I really didn't," William said.
"How could you not? I think you definitely did." Emelie gritted her teeth.
She said, "What was the real goal behind creating the Xanther Corporation? First, it was to tighten your grip on their finances. For example, Charles. He ended up with a broken supply chain because Xanther drained his
resources.
"Second, it was to outmaneuver your enemies. Bryan lost so many projects because his trade secrets got exposed. It may seem like I brought them down. But in reality, you were behind the scenes.
"You've been helping me get my revenge. You can pay me back and call it atonement. But you were really just building up your moral credit."
Her words were sharp and extreme. She spoke out of spite and anger, trying everything she could to belittle him, to twist his actions into something malicious.
She continued, "You think that, once you pay back everything you owe me, I'll be owing you? You refuse to see a doctor or get treatment. You avoided surgery, just letting your life wither away.
"You're simply planning to die clean after paying off your debts. And then, one day, I'll realize everything you did for me. But by then, you'll be gone.
"What can I do then? Even in death, you won't let me go. Forcing me to spend the rest of my life haunted by your memory. You want to be the unforgettable scar on my heart!"Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
