Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change?

Chapter 808

Glancing over, Gilbert caught sight of Sherilyn through the glass pane on the door.

"Visiting hours are almost up, and her emotions are unstable right now. Would you like to see her?"

Gilbert looked up, briefly meeting Sherilyn's gaze before shaking his head. "No, thanks."

He had promised her that he would never 'bother' her again for any reason.

"Alright then," Edwin Morris said, not pressing further. "I'll go take care of things." "Okay."

Gilbert nodded, his eyes never leaving Sherilyn inside.

48 hours.

Could Sherilyn endure that long?

And what about Jenna?

Even if she gets bailed out after 48 hours, a courtroom battle awaits her!

...

Leaving the police station, Gilbert was filled with worry for Sherilyn and concern for Jenna, so he decided to head back to Sunset Ridge Community.

He didn't go upstairs; instead, he just sat in his car.

Rolling down the car window, he lit one cigarette after another, lost in thought about Sherilyn's situation amid the smoke.

Late into the night, his phone rang.

It was Edwin Morris.

"Mr. Gilbert! Sherilyn's been admitted to the hospital!"

What? Gilbert sat up straight, his temples throbbing with anxiety.

"Got it, see you at the hospital!"

"Okay."

Hanging up, Gilbert immediately rushed to the hospital.

...

As Sherilyn's attorney, Edwin Morris was notified by the police first and was also the first to arrive.

"Mr. Gilbert!"

Upon Gilbert's arrival, he met up with Edwin Morris. "Where is she?"

"In the observation room on an IV."

"What happened?"

As Gilbert made his way to the observation room, he couldn't help but question. She was fine just a while ago, and now sudden

"Stress-induced fever," Edwin explained.

Hearing this, Gilbert paused in his tracks. In simpler terms, she was... scared into a fever!

Being frightened to that extent showed just how terrified she was!

Due to her case, Sherilyn was in a private room with a police officer standing guard outside.

Edwin Morris went up to speak with the officer, then nodded at Gilbert, who entered with a frown. Sherilyn was asleep on the hospital bed, her eyes closed, looking restless, with an IV in her left hand. Gilbert approached, sitting down by the bed.

After a moment of hesitation, he gently took her hand into his, feeling a mix of pain and tenderness. "Sherilyn."

He brushed her hair back with his other hand, softly saying, "Didn't tell you not to be afraid? Everything's going to be okay. If Edwin Morris can't handle this, then he might as well retire."

Suddenly, Sherilyn furrowed her brows and abruptly opened her eyes.

Gilbert startled. Did he wake her? Anxious she might be upset to see him, he quickly tried to get up. "No, it wasn't me..."

Gilbert felt a sharp tug at his heart and quickly held her close, gently patting her back to calm her.

"I know, you didn't push her!"

Sherilyn's eyes widened, tears rolling down her cheeks.

"You believe me?"

"Yes!" Gilbert responded without hesitation, "I believe you!"

Suddenly, Sherilyn pushed him away, glaring. "You're lying! You don't believe me! You're just a liar!"

"Sherilyn?"

"Get out!"

Sherilyn became agitated, her breathing heavy, her chest heaving violently. "I told you to get out!"
