When the Boss’ Lady Became His Sister-in-law

Chapter 40

Out in the yard.

Carey was having a blast chatting with some folks, totally ignoring whether Kristin was dead

or alive.

A black sedan rolled in, and Carey straightened up in a panic. “Mr. FitzGerald.”

Why was Rhett back at this time?

He never came back at this hour on any regular day.

Rhett got out of the car, a little tyke in tow.

Carey went pale as a ghost to see the little bastard Kristin had given birth to.

“Mr. FitzGerald, what brings you…”

“Where’s Kristin?” Rhett asked with a stern voice.

“I haven’t… haven’t seen her.” Carey shook her head quickly.

Summer glanced towards the backyard, heard some smashing sounds, and bolted in that

direction.

The first time he came to the FitzGerald family, they locked him and his mom up there.

“Summer!” York, still worried about the little critter, followed.

The warehouse was locked from the outside, but there was clearly someone inside.

“Open the door!” York shouted.

Carey, trembling with fear, didn’t dare to open it.

“Can’t hear me?” Rhett’s tone was ice–cold.

“Mr. Vincent… said we can’t touch it.” Carey quickly made up an excuse.

Rhett’s expression darkened, sensing that something was amiss. He strode over and kicked the warehouse door open with one foot.

Kemp burst out like a madman, eyes bloodshot, wielding a stick, obviously triggered and out of control again.

*Kristin!” Rhett rushed inside, frowning at the dusty mess all over the warehouse.

In the corner, Kristin was almost buried under debris, her breathing faint. She didn’t have the strength to respond.

Summer ran towards his mom.

Rhett felt a tightness in his chest and hurriedly lifted the wooden plank off Kristin, taking a sharp breath at the sight of her barely alive and bloodied.

10:32

Summer stood still, his stuffed toy falling to the ground.

York instinctively covered Summer’s eyes.

For a five–year–old kid, at the sight of his mom lying in a pool of blood, his first reaction. wasn’t to scream or cry, but to quietly well up with tears.

This reaction ached even grown–ups like York who softened his tone when speaking to Summer. “Summer, your mom’s gonna be okay. Wanna step out with me for a bit?”

Summer was silent for a long time before asking in a quiet voice, “Is my mom gonna

die?

“Why would you ask that, of course not,” York said, picking up Summer and walking out, not caring about the dirt.

“Mom said… dad’s a hero and went to outer space to fight monsters, she said she might have to go too.”

York froze mid–step, looking back at Rhett who was carrying Kristin out. Rhett’s face was grim, and he hadn’t said a word.

Screams echoed from the yard.

York walked out with Summer and saw Kemp out of control, walloping Carey with a stick.

“You bitch, trying to screw me over, no way, I’ll kill you.” Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.

Carey was beaten bloody, crying out for help, but no one dared approach Kemp now.

If it weren’t for the security guards arriving just in time, Carey might have been beaten to

death.

Rhett, holding Kristin, got into the car, giving York a cold look. “Call the cops and see who locked Kristin and Kemp in the warehouse. We’ve got cameras in the yard with the evidence for her attempted murder. Get a lawyer to sue.

Carey was so frightened that her face turned ghostly white, begging for mercy, “Mr. FitzGerald, please, I beg you, it wasn’t me. It was Miss Ruby who said Kemp was mentally ill and asked me to lock him and Kristin in the warehouse. It wasn’t my fault, please spare me.”

Rhett gave Carey a cold look. “If Ruby was the mastermind, then go tell that to the cops.” With that, Rhett closed the car door.

Meanwhile, three bodyguards couldn’t hold down Kemp, who kept yelling he’d kill Carey.

Kristin weakly opened her eyes and looked out the car window, her gaze deep..

Rhett watched Kristin with interest for quite a while.

Ruby’s motive for locking Kristin and Kemp in the warehouse was clear, which was definitely more than just wanting Kristin dead.

Kemp, nearly forty with no woman, had multiple incidents of hurting people due to his manic depression triggered by his desire to assault women.

Ruby was malicious.

But seeing that Kristin, despite being injured, had her clothes intact and showed no signs of being violated

It seemed she wasn’t as timid and defenseless as she appeared.

Moreover, when Kemp’s manic episode flared, he ran out of the warehouse and went straight for Carey, giving her a beating…

I’m curious, what did you say to Kemp?” Rhett was getting more and more interested in

Kristin
