When the Boss’ Lady Became His Sister-in-law

Chapter 29

Kristin was staring at Rhett like a deer in headlights, her fingers tingling like crazy

Rhett looked at her and reached out “Give me your hand

Like she was possessed or something, Kristin moved her hand toward him, but then she snatched it back just before touching him, shrinking away in fear “Dirty I’m dirty”

She felt filthy and unworthy as if she’d contaminate Rhett

In her eyes, Rhett was Mr. Perfect, a god like figure. She shouldn’t tarnish him, not even a

little bit

Rhett frowned again, not sure why he was even bothering with her. “Put it on yourself, or you’ll

scar

Kristin was pale as a ghost, her fingers delicate and soft, making the burn look more shocking.

She was like a pristine piece of art, stunning but oh–so–fragile.

Scared, Kristin watched Rhett, reached out to snatch the ointment quickly, and curled back

1. up.

A grin tugged at Rhett’s lips. She reminded him of a defensive stray cat on the streets, always on high alert, paws at the ready, but too scared to throw a swipe.

What was she so scared of? That kid named Summer?

“Rhett… you’re back.” Outside, Vincent pushed the door and walked in.

Rhett’s face darkened in a heartbeat. He yanked the curtains closed to hide Kristin, giving Vincent the cold eye. “Ever heard of knocking?”

Vincent was stunned, quickly lowering his head and whispering, “Sorry, Rhett. The nanny said you were back.”

“Did you go behind my back and contact Mr. Bryce at Aurora Tech?” Rhett asked with an icy

tone.

Vincent kept his head down, scrambling to explain, “Rhett, Caleb is Eve’s husband and part of the FitzGerald family. I just wanted to help him and didn’t mean to keep you in the dark. I thought you were too busy.”

In front of Rhett, Vincent could never hold his head high. With Rhett around, he was always second best, whether at work or home.

Rhett was just too good, making Vincent, who was not too shabby, look like a total loser.

Behind the curtain, Kristin shrank back, listening quietly. Her heart was racing. And she didn’t even dare breathe too loud.

When she was with Vincent, he’d often whine about how the family would be better off without Rhett, even wishing him dead. All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.

Kristin would comfort Vincent, telling him to stop comparing since they both had their strengths. But Vincent was always green with envy over Rhett and everything he had.

Staring at the ointment on her hand, Kristin fell silent for a long time.

In the entire Silvergrove City, only Rhett could protect her, Summer, and Garner. If she…

Startled by her thoughts, Kristin hugged herself, breathing rapidly.

No, she couldn’t. How could someone as dirty as her even think about making a move on Rhett?

Crossing Rhett would only make things a hundred times worse than they already were.

What was she even thinking? How ridiculous it was to dare to fancy Rhett.

“I told you the Gladstone family’s mess wasn’t that simple. We’d best steer clear of it. You got that?” Rhett’s presence was icy as he glared at Vincent, thinking he was stupid.

“But… we’re family,” Vincent mumbled an excuse.

“Humph,” Rhett let out a mocking laugh.

Too tired to lecture, he knew the Gladstone Group had been too bold in the past, and no one could save them now. When the collapse came, Vincent and Holcomb would be running for cover, yet here he was talking about family.

“Don’t contact Mr. Bryce anymore. Don’t drag the FitzGerald family’s name through the mud,” Rhett warned Vincent.

Vincent clenched his fists, head bowed, “Yes…”

“Get out,” Rhett said, glancing behind the curtain again. “Heard you brought Ruby home?”

Vincent stiffened mid–stride. Rhett never poked his nose into family stuff. “Yeah, it’s easier to

look after her.”

“I don’t want a piece of the Turner, family drama, but watch yourself,” Rhett warned again. “Don’t stir up trouble.”

Rhett was hinting at Vincent not to push Kristin too far.

Vincent nodded and left the study in anger.

Why the hell did Rhett always have to keep him down or stop him from contacting the big shots at the FitzGerald Group? Was he afraid he’d get real power one day?

Hmph, he’d keep schmoozing with those big shots no matter what Rhett thought. He wasn’t going to be under Rhett’s thumb forever.

“Where’s Kristin?” Vincent snapped in a foul mood.

The nanny was puzzled, too. “Mr. Vincent, I’ve got no idea where she’s hiding. I didn’t see her. She’s always up to no good, if not stealing, then lazing around.”

Vincent irked, smashed a cup on the table. “Karl Smith’s son isn’t married yet, is he?”

The nanny jumped, quickly replying, “Nope. His son is violent and always hits others. Who’d marry him? Someone he beat up is still in a rehab clinic, scared out of his wits.”

Vincent frowned. “Bring his son over tomorrow.”

He’d show her what would happen when she betrayed him if Kristin still wouldn’t spill about that mystery man..
