What Separates Me and You

Chapter 13 What a Nuisance

Just as Avery was about to go find a doctor, Josephine pulled her back.

Stunned, Avery asked, “Don’t…tell me you want to have the baby? But why would you give birth to that scumbag’s child?”

Josephine shook her head and gestured, “He won’t want the baby.”

“Well, then let’s get that abortion.”

Josephine moved her fingers slowly and expressed, “I want the baby.”

Confused, Avery asked, “Why?”

“The baby is mine,” she replied.

After a moment of silence, Avery sat back down, not knowing what to say.

Yes, this child belonged not only to Lewis but also to Josephine.

She had no relatives at the moment, and not even her own husband cared about her. She longed to have a family member of her own. She needed love, a lot of it. Whether it was to be loved or to love, there had to be someone to hold onto this love.

Avery reached out to caress Josephine’s cheek, saying softly, “Give birth to the child, then. I’ll help you raise it.” Her words made Josephine tear up.

She stared at Avery blankly, who still had bandages wrapped around her head. The tenderness and warmth in her eyes were so sincere.

Josephine had never thought there would be someone who would risk their life for her.

“Don’t cry, or the baby will be sad.”

Josephine sobbed and pushed down the lump in her throat, trying to force out a smile.

She nodded her head, determined to divorce Lewis.

Only by divorcing him could she have her own baby.

She recalled last year when she was pregnant and naively thought that if she showed Lewis and Nancy the pregnancy test results, they would change their attitude toward her and Lewis would love her a little more.

But reality hit her hard.

Lewis casually threw the test results on the sofa, and along with that, her heart fell from the clouds to the mud like that piece of paper.

He rubbed his temples and said, “What a nuisance.”

A…nuisance…

He didn’t even consider it a life. To him, it was just a thing.

Nancy even had people pin her down and force her to lie on the operating table. After a dose of anesthesia, all that was left for her when she woke up was a cold bed and an empty body.

After spending the whole morning in the hospital, Josephine’s high fever subsided in the afternoon.

With Avery by her side, Josephine underwent a comprehensive examination. Although her pregnancy was still somewhat unstable, everything else was normal.

“You must be careful in the early stages of pregnancy. The baby is quite strong. Don’t be too reckless, or you may not be so lucky next time,” the female doctor warned her sternly with a serious expression. Josephine knew what she meant, and her ears turned a little red as she nodded awkwardly.

The doctor prescribed a lot of supplements to promote a healthy pregnancy. Josephine walked out of the hospital carrying it. The sky had just cleared up after the rain, and the air smelled of earth.

She looked up at the sky where the sun was hiding behind the clouds, appearing and disappearing intermittently.

A few scattered geese hovered in the sky before flying toward the boundless horizon and disappearing completely.

It had been a long time since she had looked up at the sky. It was so blue, so vast.

Avery wanted to ride her motorcycle to take Josephine home, but she was stopped by Tyler. In the end, he was the one who took Josephine home.

When they arrived, Josephine didn’t get out of the car. Instead, she took out her phone and opened the notes app, showing Tyler a message she had typed earlier. “Please keep my pregnancy a secret, Mr. Green.”

The man stared at the message for a moment before looking up at Josephine, who was glancing at him with pleading eyes.

“I got it.”

With Tyler’s response, Josephine nodded in thanks and got out of the car.

When she got home, she put the medication prescribed by the doctor in a drawer on the coffee table and took out the ultrasound scan to look at.

In the center of the scan were two shapes, and she lightly traced her finger over the blurry outline of the baby as a small smile appeared on her lips.

From now on, she no longer needed to ponder the meaning of life because her life already had meaning. NôvelDrama.Org owns this.

“What are you looking at?”

Just as she was lost in thought, a magnetic voice sounded from behind her.
