“Mom, for the past three years, you and Kevin have gotten what you wanted from my marriage to the
Hansen family. I’m done!”
Janice Delcon’s voice was loud and sharp, even through the phone. “What are you talking about? I just
think you should at least talk with Elijah…”
“No, you told me to stop making a mess and apologize to him. I’m not going to apologize!””
She clenched her fists, but it did little to ease the heavy pain in her heart she felt when she thought of
Elijah.
“Our marriage has always involved our families, but this divorce is between us alone. I have the final
say in my own marriage!”
“Cordelia, why are you being so stubborn?!” her mother berated. “How dare you defy me? I’m your
mother. If you were as sensible as your sister—”
Cordelia hung up the phone abruptly. She couldn’t stand to listen to her mother drone on about how
she could never measure up to her half sister…
“But why? ‘she thought. Is he unsatisfied with the terms of the divorce agreement?’
Her mind spun with all these thoughts, so she took a deep breath to compose herself and returned to
work.
The studio was one of her own businesses.
She had always believed that women could live without romantic relationships, but they needed to have
their own
careers.
Cordelia carefully guided a young newcomer through the space. “Remember, you must always be
daring…”
Today, she wore a one-shoulder dress, exposing her smooth shoulders and delicate collarbone, a
shining diamond necklace adorning her slender neck.
The young newcomer couldn’t take his eyes off her, captivated by her beauty…
“Did I come at a bad time?” A voice suddenly called out.
‘Elijah…?’
Cordelia didn’t even hear him coming in. He was leaning against the door, faintly smiling as he
observed Cordelia and her employees, who were standing very close to each other.
“Hello, darling. Are you busy?” he asked nonchalantly.
She paused, puzzled expression. “I low did you find me?”
He only stared at her in response, his expression unreadable.
“Alright, let’s call it a day. We can finish tomorrow,” Cordelia said to the young man. He blushed and
rushed out.
Seeing Cordelia’s gaze fixed on the young man, Elijah walked up and blocked her view.
“Will you stop this joke already?” He was impatient.
She smiled bitterly. “Didn’t I make myself clear? I want a divorce.”
“So… you’re serious?” He slowly approached, his eyes never leaving hers.
“Of course.”
With each step he took, she could feel her anxiety growing, but she tried to remain composed.
Suddenly, he placed his hands on her waist and drew her closer.
His voice was low and playful as he asked, “Why won’t you be a good girl for me?”
Then he kissed her ear, his warm breath sending shivers down. her spine.
Cordelia’s body stiffened. She asked, “What do you want?”
Elijah chuckled and gently squeezed her jaw with one hand.
Her whole body stiffened. “What do you want?”
He chuckled, lifting her chin with his fingers.
“I know you’re afraid of losing your position in our family. But we can put an end to that… if you have
my baby.”
Before she could speak, he passionately kissed her, stealing her breath away…
