Chapter 10
Haider walked over, coming very close to Avril. His gaze looked casual but also, aggressive. Avril felt a sense of panic from his deep gaze.
She could hear the sound of his breathing approaching her. It was almost as if he were breathing next to her ears.
Avril screamed in her heart, "Stop! Don't come any closer. You've already crossed a safe distance!"
She closed her eyes nervously and pushed her hands forward. "No...."
Huh?
She felt...nothing in the front?
Avril opened her eyes. She saw Haider walking past her and to the black leather couch behind her. He sat down casually on the sofa, crossing his long legs. He looked like a famous male model from a fashion magazine, wild and captivating.
Avril's hands stopped awkwardly mid-air. "Oh no, I thought too much about this!" she thought.
Haider was very amused by Avril' s vexed expression. His deep violet gaze flashed with a sense of playfulness, like a majestic eagle circling its helpless prey. He was mighty and oppressive.
However, these emotions disappeared in a flash. His gaze returned to its usual lackadaisical manner. "I'm sorry, I did not reveal my true identity to you earlier. I hope you don't mind."
"It's okay, it's okay!" Avril heaved a sigh of relief.
Avril didn't expect that Haider wanted to apologize to her.
She relaxed and walked over to the couch. She sat down awkwardly yet politely. "Well, I was a little upset at first, but after thinking it through, I realized it was not a big deal. After all, we are not really that close, right?"
"Hope he does not take the casual gossip I brought up in the car too seriously!" Avril thought nervously.
Haider seemed not to notice her internal distress. "Well, do you want to make our relationship public, or keep it private?"
"I think it's better to keep it between us," Avril said without hesitation. "If it's made public, I'll be in more trouble in the future."
"Especially with Angie. She wanted to tear me apart and destroy me so badly!" Avril thought angrily.
"Are you afraid that being the president's wife will affect your job?" Haider was a little surprised because he did not expect that she would think so.
"Of course."
"Sure," Haider nodded. "We will maintain our bosssubordinate relationship in the office."All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
Avril nodded. Just as she was about to ask him about his relationship with Angie, Haider asked, "Where's my coffee?"
"Didn't Angie make one for you?" Avril was confused.
Haider raised his eyebrows. "So, you gave her the opportunity to bring me my coffee?"
"Yes," Avril admitted frankly. "She's your ex-girlfriend. If you want to get back together with her, I'll respect your choice."
After all, Avril was the one who proposed the marriage first. If he regretted it, she thought it would be better to cut off ties sooner rather than later.
Haider frowned. There was a flash of light in his eyes, and then his gaze darkened.
"Avril, do you regret marrying me?"
Avril shook her head. "No. I don't regret it. Actually, I was afraid that you would."
Although she did propose marriage to him on impulse, she has never thought of regretting her decision.
Haider was quite surprised at her reply. He looked at her quietly, with delight in his eyes. The room was so silent, Avril felt that time seemed to stop. What a strange feeling!
At that moment, the room fell into a strange, complete silence.
Avril discreetly shuffled backward. "Is there something wrong? Do you regret it now?"
"What if he regrets marrying me? I can't force him to stay!" Avril murmured in her heart. She knew that she had promised herself never to divorce him, however, she realized that she had to break her vow now.
After a while, Haider chuckled, "Avril..."
He had a clear and refreshing voice, like a blooming flower in the desert, captivating and enchanting. "I promise you, I will never regret this."
He seemed very serious and sincere when he said those words, and Avril felt a little touched.
Although they had yet to develop affection for each other, she was still touched by this heartfelt vow he made.
"Thank you," she said sincerely.
From this day on, they would be husband and wife. She needed some time to accept this fact, but
she promised herself to try her best
to adapt her role as his wife.
"Oh?" Haider seemed a little discontented. "Avril, you don't have to thank me for that!"
Puzzled, Avril raised her head to look at Haider.
Haider lowered his gaze to hide the surging emotions in his eyes. He strode towards her, getting close to Avril.
All Avril could feel was how close
they were to each other. She could detect his faint masculine musk. She was getting intoxicated by the pheromones from his body.
His breath was getting closer and closer to her, so close that her heart started pounding all of a sudden, and she struggled to breathe properly!
