Chapter 8 The House Is Being Sold
"Please, Miss, release us! We didn't offend anyone with the name, Mr.Crow!" Abner gritted his bloodied teeth.
"We're men from the second-rate Crossword family, a direct subordinate of Madam Claire, the daughter of the family head.I'm warning you, lady, if you offend us, you'll regret it!"
In response, Ms.Scarlett smirked.
"It looks to me like you're not getting the message, do you? Are you actually using a second-rate family to threaten me? This is the first time.Let me tell you this: if I wanted to, the Crossword family would cease to exist.Heh! But I don't want to.You see, in the future, Mr.Crow may be using that family as a stepping stone."
Abner was about to retort, clearly not believing a single word from her, but then he caught a glimpse of a pistol on those men in black belts.
Instantly, Abner's face turned pale, as though he had seen a ghost. His back broke a cold sweat.
What the sexy yet brutal lady claimed was most likely true, deeming that only the powerful family had the right to hold firearms and bypass the law that prohibited firearms.
Abner's mind was in turmoil.
Who were these foreigners? He had no inkling who that Mr.Crow was and whatnot. He didn't even know that guy.
How was he supposed to offend him? He thought hard, but nothing came to mind, apart from his recent encounter with the young master Sett...
Abruptly, his eyes went wide, w-was it possible that the fatty was Mr.Crow? No way! That's simply absurd, not in a thousand years.
He'd rather believe a dog transforming into a dragon than that fatty transforming into Mr.Crow, a person of extreme status! Also, he'd seen Sett grow up in the Crossword family residence, so it was all the more of an impossibility.
"It's about time."
Ms.Scarlett said with a smile as she lifted Abner's chin.
"Consider yourself lucky that Mr.Crow merely intended to teach you a lesson; originally I was planning a manslaughter."
Abner and Croc, this pair of Newton brothers, had their teeth clattering when they heard the word "manslaughter".
They inferred that what the lady had just said was true and that she probably had no qualms in doing it.
Shortly after, they were the only ones remaining in the vacant area.
"B-Brother, I think we should get going, b-before those men change their minds." Croc said, with his quivering voice.
"Y-Your r-right, Croc. But the Truck..."
Shortly after, they immediately informed the Madam of what had occurred here, or maybe not.
They were afraid that they would implicate their family.
If they continue to offend those dangerous groups...
After a while, Sett arrived in front of a dilapidated mansion.
This was the house his father had brought from his grandfather, and on the side of this old mansion was a pond that had dried up and an old tree that was withering.
Sett let out a sigh as he saw this.No one was really at fault.
They were so busy putting food on their table that they barely had time to take care of the house.
Even though the Crossword family surname was well-known throughout the city, their numerous shops under that name and their wealth and influence had reached the nearby cities, and no one dared to challenge them.
"Hey, it's not like I'm proud to be a member of the Crossword family."
Sett clenched his fist.He had always begged his grandfather, Fransico, at the Crossword family residence.
But what did they do? He was asked to wait for twelve straight hours until he passed out.
The cold shoulder he was treated with, and the moments he begged his other relatives to help him find a decent job, only to be kicked out.
The humiliation he felt...
Was that the so-called family? Sometimes he asked himself if his father, Charles Crossword, was even a biological child of his grandfather, Francisco.
He let out a sigh.
Suddenly...
"Brother!"
Sett's attention was drawn to the direction of the voice.
A little girl wearing a knee-high skirt and a blouse looked like she was in her early teens.
At that moment, she was excitedly rushing toward Sett.
"Nini..."
The little girl was Nini, his younger sister. She always loved her brother.
To her, the most important thing was family.
Just then, a middle-aged woman hurriedly came out of the house in a panic.
She was wearing an outdated dress, as she shouted.
"Young lady, be careful!"
At the same time, Sett quickly pushed his tired body as he noticed the pavement that his sister was rushing on was slippery because of the rain.
It was then that little Nini slipped.
Fortunately, he arrived at the right juncture, and he managed to grab Nini's tiny arm, making her yelp in surprise.
"Nini, didn't I tell you not to run around? What would I do if something happened to you?"
Sett reprimanded his younger sister with a solemn face.
Hearing that, Nini puffed her cheeks.
"Brother, don't be mad." She uttered, then let out a small giggle.
This girl...
Sett let out a weary smile.
"Of course, I'm not.Why would I be mad at my adorable little sister?"
Sett said while pitching Nini's cute little cheeks.
"Ouch, brother, don't stretch Nini's face, it hurts."
Nini complained as she rubbed her bright red cheeks. She looked like she was blushing, making her cuter.
Sett couldn't help but laugh.
Instantly, Nini's face turned gloomy. She pursed her lips and said.
"Brother, Aunty Claire's men come into the house again."
Before Sett could reply, he saw a middle-aged woman coming forward; she was the family helper. He would usually call her Aunty Margaret.
She was a compassionate woman. She had worked for the Crossword family before, but when they were kicked out of the family, Aunt Margaret decided to quit her job as the head maid and work for his parents instead.
He felt guilty that Aunt Margarett was working under his parents without receiving any payment.
"Young master, did you encounter Abner and Croc? Those guys are bad news. They threatened to burn the house down if we didn't leave. They seem to be under the orders of your grandfather. They also said
that a rich young master from a wealthy family intends to acquire this old mansion. What should we do, young master?"
Aunt Margaret said, with an uneasy look on her face.
"Those guys? There's no need to worry about them; I've "taken care" of them, Auntie."
Sett smiled faintly, as though he didn't mind those as*holes creating trouble for his family.
However, in the back of his head, he was thinking, 'Those guys won't be creating any more trouble even if the Crossword family wanted to"
Just then, Nini took heed of something as she tilted her head sideways.
"Brother Sett, where's mama and papa?"
She blinked her big, bright oceanic blue eyes in confusion.
Hearing Nini mentions their parents, Sett's expression changed. He bit the corner of his lips and contemplated for a moment before speaking.
"Nini, you're a big girl now.I need you to be strong, okay?" Sett said, with a serious face.
"Little Nini, Dad, and Mam had gone to the airport, as they had something important to do."
He had to say it because he loved his younger sister...He had to lie and cover up what had happened to their parents, so his younger sister wouldn't feel sad and worried.
Nini tilted her head down. She then gathered her courage not to tear up after knowing her parents wouldn't be back anytime.
"W-When will they be back, big brother?" Nini stuttered.
Her tiny face indicated that she was holding her tears up, as she put ona bright smile to cover her grief.
"Soon."
"En, I understand big brother.Let's go inside the house." Nini uttered.
Sett patted Nini's head gently, making her giggle sweetly.
"I love you, Brother!" Nini grinned.
She then leans forward, kissing Sett on the cheek.
She then carefully walked toward the old mansion.
"That girl..."
Sett shook his head.
Shortly after, Sett entered his simple room, which didn't have anything worth mentioning.
Lying in his bed, he felt dead tired.
At the same time, he was thinking about his next move.He glanced at the briefcase on the table.
A grin slowly creeps on his face, as he remembers that the briefcase was very, very important.
Instantly, he got up from bed and slowly unlocked the briefcase, and with a click, it was open. Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
Suddenly, his eyes widened.
"D-Diamonds?"
Sert was gawking at what was in front of him.He unconsciously gulped.
What in the world?! In his line of sight were small mounds of diamonds! No, it wasn't just any ordinary variant diamonds, it was the legendary "Blue"
Diamonds! No wonder.....
Wait a second! What if it's fake?
"I'll examine it first if it's authentic."
Sett mumbled while he bit down on the diamond that almost broke his teeth in the process. It was certainly durable, but it wasn't enough to prove if it was the real deal.
Sett started rummaging through his stuffs and took his UV flashlight.
Using it, the blue diamond shone with a very bluish hue.
It couldn't be more real! At that moment, he was on cloud nine.
"I'm rich! I'm fre*king rich! Thank God!"
Sett was overwhelmed by emotion, as who wouldn't be when they saw these blue diamonds?! ‘Calm down! I have calmed down!’ Sett notices a small pouch on the briefcase.
"Hm, cards?"
