But Gemma's hatred toward Ember changed after Greg's death, and everyone in the family noticed the difference. The Killians simply assumed that Gemma had changed her opinion of Ember, who had shown her kindness during a tough time.

The workers switched the main monitor feed to Interrogation Room 1, where Ember was being questioned. To Hera's surprise, Ember was fully cooperating with the interrogation. Upon a closer look, Hera noticed that something seemed off about Ember's state of mind.

"She refused to tell us anything earlier, so we sent her to the small, dark room for a while. Now, she's willing to talk," Joshua explained.

Slightly startled, Hera inquired casually, "What kind of small, dark room? It's so impressive.

Upon hearing her, Joshua instantly became excited. "Yes, I also think the room's really cool. Mr. Bernard's technology is the best!"

Hera cast a glance at Bernard. "Oh? Mr. Bernard does involve himself in many industries." Bernard knew that Hera was upset at him for not telling her anything. He merely cleared his throat. "I need to make a living."

Hera was speechless. Yeah, right. Bernard had to design such a room to make a living.

Words failed Joshua. He couldn't even come up with such a high-tech room to make ends meet.

"You can even order the Special Investigation Department around. Is there anything else you can't do?" Hera teased.

Bernard thought about it before whispering in her ear, "Giving birth."

Hera was at a loss for words before exclaiming, "Be serious!"

Meanwhile, the questioning continued in Interrogation Room 1. "I ordered Linda to do so," Ember answered.

"Why?" the interrogator questioned.

Ember said, "Because Daphne knew something that she shouldn't."

"What was it?" the interrogator probed.

Ember suddenly went silent and looked down at her cuffed hands. Her gaze turned distant as she recalled what happened that year.

"A hundred thousand dollars! As long as you give me a hundred grand, I'll never expose the fact that Mr. Rhett smothered Mr. Chad's baby!" one of the maids at the Killian residence threatened Ember.

Albert was still alive back then, and Rhett hadn't grown up yet. Chad married early and had a baby boy. Since the baby passed away not long after he was born, he was never given a name.

"I'll give you 200 grand. From today onward, you're not allowed to return to Jedburgh,"
