Chapter 1: Introduction
A smile forms on my lips as the jet slowly lands on the runway.
Finally home.
Opening the window, I look outside and see everything running backward. Speed is gradually NôvelDrama.Org exclusive content.
decreasing, just a few minutes and I will set foot on my homeland. It seems like years I have been
here.
Have you ever felt one hour has passed in the blink of an eye when you are doing something you like
and the same one hour doesn't seem to ever end when your mind is somewhere else?
Well, I felt that just now.
It was only a one-hour flight but it seemed like one year to me because of my eagerness to reach
quickly seeing that it's been six months since I came home last, my country was calling me.
"Wow, Evie, the weather is great!" Leah says excitedly as we slowly get off the jet.
"Yeah. Spring in New York, supposed to be great." I reply with a relaxed smile.
Some guards rush towards us and take our luggage. I give them a wave and make our way through the
departure with them following us from behind. Once we are outside of the airport, a gentle breeze
strokes my face, ruffling my hair. It's a sunny morning. The soft white clouds swimming throughout the
endless blue sky.
Many can see various shapes in the clouds. I wish I were one of them. I look up at the sky in hope to
see something but my eyes can't catch anything more than some white fluffy cotton candy-like things
dancing and dancing, making me want to eat them.
Yeah, I am very unromantic I know.
At least I read Romeo and Juliet if that counts.
Though I don't have anything like a love life, I love reading romance. Books are one of the greatest
reasons I breathe for. When the cruelty of the real world suffocates me, I seek peace in someone's own
imaginary world. The one who said "Books are man's best friend" was really genius.
Looking around the place, I smile and take a deep breath letting the freshness of spring air refresh my
mind. Every time I come here I feel happy. A strange happiness that I never feel anywhere else. Maybe
only motherland can give that feeling. No matter how beautiful or advanced the country you live in or
for how long, you could never feel the way in anywhere in the world which you feel in your own country.
That's incomparable.
The sound of hundreds of cameras clicking begins to be heard as we rush towards our car being
surrounded by almost ten bodyguards. There are a lot of people outside and most of their eyes are on
us. The ones who know us are watching with interest and the others with curiosity, seeing the splendor
of our overall appearance. The paparazzi begin rushing towards our direction but before they can
attack us, luckily we make it inside the car.
Let the confined life begin now. Bunch of guards, maids, media, gossip the very usual things you have
to face if you are the only daughter of a billionaire father and the heiress of one of the biggest
companies in New York.
Everyone wants to be famous, literally everyone. Name, fame, glamor, luxury, fans; looks like
everyone's dream. But there are many downsides too. Who said being famous is always fun?
If you are famous, the glamorous world will snatch the little pleasures away from your life. Just money
and glamour can't buy happiness. There are some times when we just want to be alone with nature,
alone with our thoughts, and alone with ourselves. Some happy moments which don't need money to
be bought, some moments for which life is meaningful.
Reading a book sitting on a park bench, lying on the beach enjoying a beautiful sunset; are some
common things people do every day. So common that we don't even notice what importance they
comprise in our life. But we realize it then when we can't go out for a simple evening walk on a regular
basis, can't hear birds chirping sitting in the woods, and mostly can't get out of home whenever we
want. And that's when they become uncommon which has happened with me.
I want freedom which is not very available in my hometown. That is why I moved to Canada 4 years
back.
I was literally a nerd in my school life. No, I am still a nerd. Proud nerd, might I say. I have always given
more priority to my studies than everything else and I don't regret it. When it was partying next door, I
found myself burying my head into the book to understand why the volatile substances easily
evaporated at normal temperature. And finally, all my hard work came to success when I got admitted
into one of the best universities in Canada which was indeed a blessing for me.
I wanted to move somewhere away from here so that I could live a relatively free life. Dad denied it in
the first place. But I am not the one to give up easily. After many arguments, I managed to convince
him and went to Canada but not alone, with Leah going after me as my babysitter.
Meet Leah Easton, my best friend who is currently sitting beside me cursing no one in particular and
the reason is her makeup has been ruined. Yes, she is crazy but she is the best 'best friend' one could
ever have.
Funny, pretty, a lovely girl; modeling her passion and Harry Styles her obsession. Being best friends,
we just do one thing the whole day and that is fight. Yeah, we fight most of the time we are awake but
that's what friends do right? Friends are not to give chocolate and hugs and to shower with sweet
words, that's daddy's job for God's sake.
I met her in my freshman year and from then we were stuck together. So when she began whining to
go with me, her parents agreed easily and let us go.
These years we visited home from time to time. But this time it isn't like others. Now we are here for a
full six months. Dad had to go on an urgent trip to London, so someone needs to handle the business.
And as I am the only daughter of my father, I have to take over for him as the CEO.
We just completed our graduation, me on business administration and Leah on literature. I was about
to start my MBA course, then dad called me and I hurried over here. Running a multi-billion dollar
company being in charge is absolutely hard but I know I can manage it. I was 19 when I started helping
dad with his business and now at 21, I think I have come to gain some experience of this complicated
business world.
Dad has none to take care of except me. I always felt like I left him alone for my own selfish reasons.
That's why I started looking after our business along with my studies from an early age. It wasn't easy
though. But I needed to do it and I did. Now that he relied on me alone to give me such a big
responsibility because I proved myself eligible for it.
Now giving up all distractions, all I need to do is to concentrate on my target as I promised my dad
again that I will make him proud of me and I will. I never break my promises
