Chapter 0317
Kane's POV
The room still felt electric with tension, the remnants of Knox's confrontation with our father hanging in the air like the aftermath of a storm. I could feel the anger pulsing from Knox, his chest rising and falling in heavy, controlled breaths. And for a brief moment, I wasn't
sure what would happen next. Would Knox tear into Leigh again? Would I?
No, not now. We had bigger things to deal with, and this was the moment to get on the same page. Despite everything, we needed unity-something that had been missing between us for far too long.
I stepped forward, standing next to Knox, my hand hovering over his shoulder in a show of solidarity. He glanced at me briefly, his eyes flashing with a mixture of anger and something else. Relief, maybe? Deep down, I knew Knox wanted the same thing I did, even if he was too damn proud to admit it. We needed each other now more than ever.
"I think we can all agree," I said, my voice steady, "that whatever this is, we handle it together."
Knox didn't respond at first, just kept his eyes locked on Leigh, who was bruised and battered, slumped against the wall. But I could feel him silently agreeing, his rage simmering but under control.
For now.
"We don't have time for more secrets," Chase interjected, stepping into the room with an intensity that made everyone turn. His face was still smeared with ash, and his eyes were wild, but there was something deadly serious about the way he was looking at our father. Chase moved beside me, his expression grim.
"We need to talk," he stated urgently. Leigh struggled to his feet, wiping blood from his split lip.
"So, you all come barging in here like this? Disrespectful," he sneered.
"Quiet," Chase snapped, his eyes narrowing at our father. "If you've betrayed Lottie, you won't just have to fear your sons-you'll have the Sparrow brothers to deal with."
"And we have more 'toys' then you can imagine!" Liam grinned slyly from the door way. Leigh's face paled at the mention of the Sparrow brothers. Fear flashed in his eyes-a telltale sign that he knew exactly who Chase was referring to. I made a mental note to ask about them later, but now wasn't the time. I stepped closer to Knox, lowering my voice.
"We need to get on the same page," I murmured.
"And why is that?" He looked at me sceptically.
"Because Lottie's in danger," I replied firmly. "Whatever issues we have can wait."
He hesitated, then gave a slight nod. "Agreed." Chase turned to us, his eyes feral.
"While I was with Astaroth, I learned that..."
"What? With Astaroth." Adam growled the room growing dark as his rage seeped out of him.
"Yes, you think I dress like this for shits and giggles." He barked at his brother, giving him a hard stare before Adam shut his mouth and let him continue, "Connie is involved in this. And there's an Alpha. But I do not think it is Leigh." "Sebastian?" Knox echoed, frowning deeply.
"See, even Chase knows I have nothing to do with this." Leigh bristled.
I raised a brow before silencing my father with a stare.
"What do you mean, then who?" I asked plainly. Chase locked eyes with our father, his stare cold and unrelenting.
"Sebastian. I think it's him pulling the strings, not Leigh." Leigh looked almost relieved but that relief quickly evaporated as Chase stepped closer. "But before you breathe easy, know this," Chase said, his voice darkening with menace. "If I find out that you've betrayed Lottie in any way, you won't have to fear Knox or Kane. It's the Sparrow Brothers you'll have to worry about."
Leigh visibly paled at the mention of the Sparrow Brothers, his already bruised face draining of colour. The threat hung heavy in the room, an unspoken reminder that there were fates worse than death, and the Sparrow Brothers were experts in delivering them. I swallowed the question rising in my throat. What *exactly* do the Sparrow Brothers do? But I knew now wasn't the time to ask. There were more pressing matters at hand.noveldrama
"We don't have time for this," I said, refocusing the conversation. "If you're really not involved, then help us. Tell us how Lottie got out of her room without us seeing her."
Leigh, still rattled from Chase's threat, took a breath and straightened up. "The tunnels," he muttered, his voice hoarse but steady.
"The tunnels?" I repeated, a knot forming in my chest as the memories surfaced. The old tunnels beneath the packhouse, the ones we used to play in as kids, hiding and sneaking around when no one was watching.
"I thought you had those filled in years ago," I said, my voice laced with disbelief. Leigh shifted uncomfortably, his eyes flickering between Knox and me.
"I lied about that." He confessed finally.
"Like you lied about Anthony being
gel
dead?" Knox laughed bitterly from beside me. The sound was humourless, biting. Leigh's face twisted in discomfort, and he glanced at me, searching for some form of backup, but I just stared at him. I wasn't going to save him from this.
"Well?" Knox pressed, his tone sharp.
"It's... complicated," Leigh began, but Knox cut him off.
"It's not," he said coldly. "He's either alive or he's dead. No in-between."
"I gave him to Astaroth." Leigh's gaze dropped to the floor, a deep weariness settling into his features. The words hung in the air, sinking like stones into the pit of my stomach. Knox's jaw clenched, his eyes narrowing with fury. I could feel the rage simmering inside me too, but there was no time to deal with
this now. We had a bigger issue on
our hands-Lottie.
"We'll deal with that later," I said through gritted teeth, forcing my focus back to the immediate problem. "Show us the tunnels."
Leigh hesitated, his eyes scanning the room like a cornered animal looking for a way out. I could tell he was weighing his options, but he knew he was out of cards to play.
"Fine," he said at last, his voice low. He pushed himself up off the floor, his movements slow and deliberate.
"Follow me."
