Chapter 22 Prostitute
"So, according to you, it is okay to run off with money in a fit of anger. By your logic, getting a bit angrier could justify murder, right?" I asked him, letting him see the anger that was inside me towards him.
Eric's expression immediately turned ugly, but after glancing around, he composed himself and gritted his teeth. Probably, the situation shamed him in other's eyes, and he felt embarrassed being glared at by strangers who despised him. "Sissy, I know I was wrong. Please don't be angry. Let's talk about this back home, okay?"
He talked to me quietly and calmly, like he wanted to show others that he was the kindest person on Earth, and I was the hysterical girlfriend who overreacted.
"Sure, but first, give me back the money you owe me. Thirty thousand in total, not a penny less, not a penny more." I reached out to demand, disregarding whether others were watching. I was the victim, after all, and I felt justified in my demands.
Eric pursed his lips and chuckled. "Sissy, in our relationship, my money is your money, and your money should be mine, shouldn't it? Nowadays, we can't have everything be paid for by us men. You ladies should enjoy it as well, right?" "Yeah, girl, since you are a couple, why split money so clearly?" A stranger joined our argument.
"That is right, you women. When it comes to spending a man's money, you are extravagant, but when a man asks for some money, it is like he is asking for your life." Two or three more street toughs joined in, smoking and jeering at me.
Seeing people backing him up, Eric straightened his back a bit. That obviously made me scared, but I pulled myself together, and I tried to hide my emotions. "Sissy, we are all family. Let's talk about this back home, okay?"
I started to have enough. He still tried to show our little crowd that he was right, and I was the madwoman, who was startled to be asked to share some money.
"Who's family with you, Eric? We were together for ten years. You lived off me, didn't want to work and started businesses that failed repeatedly, and I endured it all. But you squandered all my money, talked poorly about me everywhere, and finally ran off with my savings. And now you have the nerve to come back and talk about our relationship? You are not even a man!"
I lost my control. I pointed at him, yelling furiously, feeling more and more aggrieved. I had abided by the rules, been naïve and easily deceived by this man for ten years. My youth was wasted, and now I was being publicly humiliated by him? How dare he do this to me? But the worst was yet to come.
The street toughs immediately started cheering. Like, really, I was the worst person on this planet, and he needed to get back his dignity which I ruined in front of everyone.

"Bro, this woman doesn't listen. Drag her out and beat her. Women don't understand unless you beat them a few times. If she is short on money, take her to sell herself. Don't you worry about not having money? Hahaha."
A few thugs laughed along, leering at me with vulgar eyes, as if I was already a streetwalker. At that moment, I hated all men. How could they be like that toward a woman? I was obviously in need of security, and all they did was just encourage a man to beat me up. What more, making me stand on the street to earn money by selling my body?
That wasn't just a bad day for me, but it seemed like it became one of the worst days of my life. The men surrounded me, stared at me hungrily, like I would have been the desert they desired. I felt like some of them were ready to stand up and help him to do things with me that they had just advised him to do. I felt my body was close to shivering, but I knew I couldn't lose myself.
I glared fiercely at them, hiding my fear, and I turned to leave.
However, feeling brave with his supporters around, Eric wouldn't let me, hurriedly catching up and trying to stop me. "Don't go. I still have something to talk to you about."
I had enough. I forcefully kicked him. "Do you have any shame left? Do I have to call the police and have you arrested before you leave?"
Eric, stung by the kick, raised his hand in anger as if to strike me. I was stunned. He never attempted to hit me, therefore I couldn't really believe that he could harm me.
I dodged in fear as he really moved his hand, ready to slap me, but the slap never landed on my face. I heard a scream and looked up to see a tall, sturdy man standing in front of me. He grabbed Eric's hand and forcefully kicked him, knocking him to the ground.
"Who the hell are you?" Eric yelled like a child, nursing his arm, checking it, obviously thinking it had been fractured.
The man walked over, sneering. "Friend, it is impolite to lay hands on a lady."
"She is my girlfriend. You have got nothing to do with her." Eric retorted, surprising me. How could he say that I was his girlfriend still? What a liar! I thought.Owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
When did the gentle and courteous man in her memory become so sleazy and despicable?
Greasy and ridiculous all over.
"Do you need help with calling the police? Beautiful lady?" The man asked, smiling gently and considerately.
Feeling a sense of security, I looked at Eric on the ground, shook my head.
"Eric, I was blind before. I consider these ten years of youth and the money you owe me as lost. Now get lost, and never let me see you again in this lifetime, or I will make sure you pay the price."
