THE REMORSEFUL BILLIONAIRE

CHAPTER 8

Nathan’s POV

I could hear my alarm ringing from the nightstand by my king size bed, I was still feeling sleepy because I slept so late yesterday night as I was working on the business proposal father wanted me to come up with.

“Oh God, its 7 am already”, I thought angrily. “I can legit swear that I slept just few hours ago.”This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.

This billionaire lifestyle is so difficult, the saying, “money isn’t everything” is so fucking true, I can’t even remember the last time I had real fun.

When I was a dirty and broke street thug, I was happier than I am now. I didn’t have to worry about so many people and things. I don’t have to worry about business deals, proposals or any investments. I don’t have to prove my capability to anyone.

Despite everything I have done, a lot of people still sees me as being incapable, even my dad seems to complain about me. It seems he forgot I just started working in the business empire. My step mom too doesn’t fail in showing her displeasure and disappointment in me, and my step brother always made it known that I’m just a nobody who stole his place. Only my beautiful step sister is trying to help me get in the right path.

I struggled to get out of the duvet and into the en-suite bathroom. After taking my shower, I walked into my closet to pick up my clothes and accessories as I forbid any of housekeepers from walking into my personal space.

I can’t trust anyone easily. Who knows what John has up in his sleeve, I can be anything but I’m definitely not stupid to trust strangers with myself.

I picked up a brown suit with an off white shirt, a matching black belt and an Italian leather shoe, I dressed up, sprayed a cologne and dashed out of the room, walking down the stairs.

“Good morning, master,” Isabella, the head chef, greeted me.

I didn’t reply her. Yes, I’m an asshole, I hardly reply to the workers greetings. Everyone is a suspect to me. I’m much safer in the slumps of Rome, than I am in this mansion, I can’t pinpoint the cause of my fears though.

She continued, “Breakfast is ready, should I dish out your food?”

“Yes, I want a small portion and please be fast with it. I’m running late”, I said coldly as I pull out the chair at the rear end of the dining hall and sat down.

Today is going to be a good one, at least I’m going to see that woman Julia or Juliet. Oh please, don’t tell me I forgot her name already. I’m going to ask for her name today and never forget it. To know her is to love her. She exudes peace and so much beauty.

I’m sure she doesn’t have as much enemies like I do, but how have I been living my life that I don’t even feel safe despite all my money and bodyguards? I guess its karma doing its thing. People have always feel threatened by me. Now it’s my turn to taste from my own medicine.

My phone started beeping, which drew out of my thoughts, I looked at the caller id and it was Jessie; my step sister and the only supporter I know I have.

I picked up the call. “Hello sis”, I sounded happy.

“Good morning, Nathan”, she sounded not so happy

“Father is going to call you in a while. He said the proposal you wrote is bad, and I know him, He sounded really angry, and I know when he calls he going to say a lot of hurtful things to you. Please don’t be angry. Just let him speak or you can avoid picking his call. I’m going to come later by the office today, so we can come up with something better”. She hung up.

“And what the hell is this? I worked so hard on this proposal and then he tagged it nonsense” I shouted angrily. I could see the fear in the chef face as she served the food.

“I won’t be eating anymore. I lost my appetite.” I dashed out angrily and got into my car as the driver sped off to the office.

The driver was parking in the garage when I saw her, my new PA coming out of a old car and running into the hospital hastily.

I got out and went into the hospital, I met her already seated when I walked in

“Good morning sir,” she greeted respectfully.

“Get me my coffee,” I said coldly, ignoring her.

“Which type do you take, sir,” she asked.

“Are you just stupid or daft? Aren’t you supposed to know my coffee preference by now? And you came to work late. Do you think we groom amateurs here? Aren’t you suppose to resume work early? You must think you are something special for me to employ”, I swallowed hard, knowing she was special and unique.

“Now you want to start misbehaving. You better do your job well and be good at it, or I’m going to fire you before you know it”, I shouted angrily at her, attracting other people’s attention.

I finished talking and I regretted my actions almost immediately. Nathan what have you done? You just keep hurting her over and over again, and you keep ruining your chances of her forgiving you.

Asides her lateness, she hadn’t done anything wrong for me to be this angry on her. I was angry at father and I just passed my aggressions and frustrations on her because she is a weaker vessel.

I was hoping today was going to be a good one but I spoiled it already. I thought angrily.

She just stood there, saying nothing and I could hear her sob. I watched as her eyes which once radiated peace and happiness, now reflected pain and sadness.

I went in and slammed the door shut.

What a bad impression I have given her. I doubt we will ever be getting close…
