Chapter 42: 42

Chapter 42: 42

Elliot and I finished preparing and we’re in the elevator. We stop at a floor label B2, basement two.

According to Elliot, our elevator keys only work on this floor because it’s owned by us. The elevator

doors to the garage. There are about six cars in white, black or gray in color. There are either SUVs or

sedans. Elliot and I ride the black Jeep. I was browsing online where to get a dog until I came across a

website that encouraged people to adopt.

“Elliot, let’s just adopt a puppy” I tell him. Elliot raises a brow at me as he starts the car.

“What?” he asks.

I shrugged, “let’s just adopt a dog instead of buying one” I tell him, “I think it’s better than encouraging

that kind of business” I tell him.

He smiles, “Okay. Which shelter are we going to?”

A few minutes into the drive we arrive at SOSD. We park in front of a tall white gate and a personnel is

waiting for us outside the shelter.

“Hi! My name’s Marcy” she extends her hand and shakes my and Elliot’s, “Welcome to SOSD. I

understand that you’re looking for a puppy to adopt?”

Elliot and I smile, “Hi Marcy. It’s nice to meet you. Yes, we’re looking for a puppy to adopt”

“Well, our youngest puppy is at two months old. Usually when people come to adopt, they get the

youngest one. This way, the puppy gets to grow with them and establishes trust and loyalty” Marcy tells

us, “So, let’s get started with the tour of the shelter?” she asks. Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.

Elliot and I follow Marcy as she tells us how the shelter started, how many volunteers they get each

week and the works. Elliot tugs on my hand, “How much should we donate to the shelter?”

I smile, “Really?” I asked as I smiled, “Uhhh … how much would you like to donate?”

“I was thinking we hand them a check for the volunteers and then within the week, we could send over

packs of cat and dog food, vitamins and bathing essentials” Elliot whispers. I nod as I smile at Elliot.

“Mr. and Mrs. Smith, now that you have been toured around the shelter, do have an idea about the

puppy you were planning on adopting?” Marcy asks us.

“To be frank, no, we haven’t” I tell her

She smiles at me, “Oh, well, that’s perfectly fine. I’d like to give you time to get to know our puppies a

little so that you are able to make a decision” Marcy says.

Marcy leads us to an open area where the puppies were playing after they have been fed. According to

Marcy, they don’t like to keep the puppies in cages majority of the time. They let the puppies out as

early as six in the morning, feed them and let them roam around the lawn of the shelter and when night

falls, they sleep in their respective cages. Elliot stands behind me as we watch the puppies. From the

moment they saw us, they came running towards us. We stand behind a wooden fence. Elliot crutches

down to get a closer look at the puppies. One puppy came up to Elliot, he was light brown with a black

spot on that surrounds his left eye.

“Hi, buddy” Elliot says, “would you like to come home with us?” he asks

“He’s two months old. He’s very energetic and loyal” Marcy says

I smile down at Elliot and turn to Marcy, “We’ll take him, Marcy. Also, my husband and I would like to

hand out a donation for the shelter and its volunteers” I tell her.

Marcy’s face lights up, “That sounds good, we’re very grateful, Mrs. Smith” she shakes my hand again.

Elliot smiles up at me, “where do we sign for the adoption?”
