The Day Our Promise Breaks (Charles and Evelyn)

Chapter 207

Upon realizing just how sweet and adorable Charlie was, he felt a pang of regret for letting his prejudices get in the way, causing her so much heartache. He wished he could just wrap her in a hug and say, "I was wrong." Luckily, there was still plenty of time ahead. Charlie endured five years of neglect, but Charles had a lifetime to make it right.

Dahlia watched Charles as he walked away. Her hands were tightly clenched, and her nails dug deep into her palms. Her eyes burned with resentment. 'Evelyn! Charlie! Even in death, you seem to stand in my way.'

At the hospital, Evelyn gently bathed Rosa and helped her into clean clothes. She knew how much Rosa loved to look her best and even took the time to comb her hair just right. The nurse offered to help, but Marian waved her off, signaling her to tend to other duties. This was Evelyn's way of showing her love and respect. Evelyn was known for her grateful nature. Rosa had always treated her with genuine care, and Evelyn returned that affection wholeheartedly. It wasn't surprising that Rosa was so fiercely protective of her.

As Evelyn sat by Rosa's bedside, she looked at her face, marked by illness. She was worried about a relapse that might leave Rosa unconscious again. She held Rosa's hand to her face and playfully pleaded, "Rosa, you've got to wake up soon. I still need you to watch over me."

While she was talking, the door swung open. Expecting Marian or the nurse, Evelyn turned and was surprised to see Charles. He had come to visit Rosa, not realizing Evelyn would be there. As he approached, Evelyn stood up and said to Rosa, "It's getting late. I'll head out now and come back tomorrow."

Rosa, still in her deep slumber, didn't respond. Evelyn gently tucked

Evelyn didn't want to start a scene with Rosa still in the room. She coolly pulled her hand away. "No need." And with that, she left. Charles was there for Rosa and could only watch Evelyn leave. His mood darkened.

Marian entered, and Charles asked

about Rosa's condition. He sat in Evelyn's spot for a bit before leaving himself. By the time he reached the ground floor, Evelyn was already gone Charles got into his car and headed straight to Maple Garden. He drove quickly, arriving at almost the same time as Evelyn.

As Evelyn was about to close her door, Charles blocked it with his leg. Her expression turned stormy, and she tried to close the door anyway. He had brought this on himself.noveldrama

his irritation rising as he pushed back. With their difference in strength, Evelyn didn't stand much of a chance. She stumbled back a few steps from his force. Charles took the chance to step inside. With a loud "bang," he shut the door.

Evelyn steadied herself, her eyes blazing with anger. Before she could say anything, Charles spoke up

first, "I'm here to have a calm talk about Charlie. I want to see Charlie!"
