Chapter 636
"You two, come over here." J pointed at the two bodyguards Charles had assigned. "Charles only said for you to protect me, not to keep staring at me. I'm not a criminal."
"But Mr. Wells' instructions were very clear. We are to stay with Ms. Baker and Madam Baker. We can't leave your side for even a moment," one of the bodyguards replied, unfazed by J's words. He showed no intention of yielding.
"Please, Ms. Baker, don't make this difficult for us."
"Why, you-"
"That's enough!" Clarisse cut J off. "J, how many times have I told you? You need to be mindful of your identity and behavior when you're outside!" Clarisse frowned. "Look at how you're acting!"
Clarisse glanced at the two bodyguards. "I'm Charlie's mother, as you should know."
"Yes, madam," they acknowledged.
"Since you know who I am, you should also know that crossing me won't end well for you!" Clarisse warned.
"We don't mean to offend, Madam Baker. We're simply following orders. Mr. Hoffman pays us, so we only answer to him," one of the bodyguards replied calmly.
Clarisse narrowed her eyes. "Fine, I won't make things difficult for you. But I'd like some tea now. Can you arrange that?"
"I'll take care of it right away!" one of the bodyguards responded immediately and went to make arrangements.
J leaned closer to him, saying, "I need to see someone Charles' secretary, Becky. Bring her to me. And also bring over the person responsible for the raffle box today!"
J was still fuming over the incident. She had deliberately swapped the number cards in the raffle box. How could Noelle's number be drawn?Content is © by NôvelDrama.Org.
The only explanation was that something had gone wrong along the way. "Get them here now!" she demanded.
Becky was busy up front when one of Charles' bodyguards approached her. "Ms. Malls, Ms. Baker would like to see you."
Becky squinted her eyes. "Now? Did Ms. Baker say what it's about?"
"She's quite agitated. She also asked to see the person who managed the raffle box," the bodyguard answered Becky's questions. Becky pressed her lips together. "Where's Mr. Wells?"
"Looking for me?" Ronald came over and glanced at the bodyguard. "Weren't you assigned to keep an eye on Ms. Baker?"
"Mr. Wells, he's here for me. Ms. Baker wants to see me, and it's apparently about the raffle box," Becky explained.
"I reported everything about the box to Mr. Hoffman, and it was replaced. Ms. Baker may have realized something was off, so..."
"What are you worried about? Can't you handle something like this?" Ronald smirked. "You've done well with this task. Go on. Mr. Hoffman is aware of it."
"Understood."
Becky followed the bodyguard to J's lounge, where the staff member, who had managed the raffle box was also present. "Ms. Baker, you wanted to see me?"
J narrowed her eyes at Becky, then walked over and slapped her hard across the face.
Becky did not expect J to resort to such an action. Her face was slapped to the side. She clutched her cheek, staring at J in disbelief.
"Ms. Baker, what did I do to make
you slap me without any consideration?" Becky asked, still
holding her cheek. "Didn't you call us friend's just a few days ago?
"Friends? You think you deserve that?" J sneered at Becky, her face filled with disdain.
"Look at who you are and who I am. You think you're qualified to be my friend? If you weren't Charles' secretary, do you think I'd even look
at you?" J continued to mock Becky with cold, cutting words.
