Chapter 22 The day Darko save Zasha
“I should get you back home.”
“You can go, I’m staying here a little while longer. Just tell my dad that I’m okay, that I’ll be back tomorrow. He’s still going to yell at me anyway, there’s no point in getting yelled at earlier than necessary.”
Darko looks at her, he could never understand how it felt to be privileged, aside from the money. A bastard child like him could never understand the love of a father. His mom did her best to raise him, but when she died because of a freak incident he was left an orphan and lived under the mercy of the mob boss who threatened him that he would throw him to the street if he told anyone that Darko was his bastard son.
“Unless you want to accompany me?” she winked at him and wrapped her arm to his shoulder and pull him down for a kiss.
“I could never get enough of you, and you know that.” He whispered as he caresses her beautiful face and kisses her deeper while his hand rub her back and holds her body close to his.
“But I can’t protect you here, this place is not safe for…” his words were interrupted when his eyesight made him notice the red dot to the front of his shirt pocket.
She was taken under his protective embrace, and it was within the next fraction of a second when he hissed from the pain as the bullet grazed the skin of his upper arm. The sting was familiar enough that he knows he would be just fine and that the bullet just nicked his arm.
“Stay behind me, I’m getting you out of here.” He was quick to shield her behind his body, while Zasha didn’t hesitate and let him protect her.
He told her to stay behind the kitchen counter when he moves to the windows and swiftly closes the curtains. More gunshots were fired and then there was silence.
“Stay here, I’m checking the outside area.” His voice was authoritative but she shook her head when the realization dawns on her that she could be dead seconds earlier.
“Zasha, you’re safe here.” He grabbed a kitchen knife and told her to stab anyone who comes close.
“I can’t, please… stay with me.”
He didn’t have the patience to let the shooter go, so he grabbed her and kissed her hard.
“Stay. I’ll be back. Trust me.”
Her eyes were teary but she sits back with her back flat to the bottom of the kitchen counter and her legs were cold against the exquisite marble floor but she was too tense to complain.
He looked at her one more time before he decided to leave her and headed to the foyer. The large rental house was not ideal for a getaway, but knowing Zasha he knows that she has been bathed in luxury for her whole life. He doubted if she could adjust to a lower standard kind of living.
The night air hits his senses and his eyes were quick to scan the driveway, then he runs faster as he saw a glimpse of a shiny metal object under the moonlit view. He paced faster to it, but curse when he was left with only tire tracks.
Darko was back in the kitchen where he left Zasha, she looked at his grey shirt which was tainted with his blood.
“Darko, you’re bleeding…”
“Just a scratch I’ll be fine, come on I’m taking you back to your dad’s.”
“Who is he?”
“I don’t know yet, I’ll find out. I just need to get you back.”
She looked worried for him, but he was too upset to care about what she was thinking.
“You should get your wound check out, here let me…”
“I said, I’m FINE!”
She backed down and just looked at him, she was feeling guilty that she didn’t say a word. The woman felt useless like she always does, she thought that she meant something more to him. But was quick to be put back in her place.
You’re just a pawn Zasha, quit wanting more.
The ride back to her dad was shared in total silence, she couldn’t wait to get back to her room and lock herself back from the outside world. Beside her, the Sokolov cartel’s underboss had wrapped his arm with a kitchen napkin.
Darko was ignoring her as he was busy calling Nail. Darko was telling him about what happened, and how they’re currently on their way back to her dad’s.
“I hope you learn your lesson young lady.”
Her dad greeted her when they arrived, Darko could see that she was acting like a truly spoiled daughter of a mafia boss. The wounded underboss saw a glimpse of disappointment in her eyes, but he couldn’t be sure since her dad grabbed her arm tightly making sure that she said what he had expected of her.
“I’m sorry,” Zasha said in defeat.
“Good girl, now go to your room.”
Darko didn’t like how he treated his daughter, but he didn’t say anything. He knows it was not his place to judge him, and he was nothing but the underboss.
The bastard son, the son who’s not worthy of his daughter. He needs to go back and let go of his wants for her.
And that was how an hour later he ended up with a random whore under him. She was screaming his name like a horny bitch, when he told her to shut up and be quiet.
He misses her, he wanted the sweet playful heiress, and he moaned her name when he thrust hard and climaxed.
The voluptuous blonde woman was a bit shorter than Zasha but her hair was just like hers. And that was all he need to release his frustrations. Darko discarded the condom and told her to leave his hotel bedroom, he was quick to shower and change the bandage for his wound.
There was something off about the shooting, and he couldn’t shake the vibe that he got from her dad’s. But there was also her carefree attitude that made him question her intentions towards him.
He has been with a lot of women to know, that some have hidden agendas in their pretty little heads.
That same night he spent talking to Nail and his men discussing about the Kuznetsova family.
“I know their business has been thriving after joining the Sokolov cartel and the old man can’t wait to get his daughter to tie the knot with Yegor and make sure his family gets the best share of the business,” Darko said as he rests back to the big mahogany desk where they converse in the library area of his dead biological dad’s mansion.
“… just talk to our contact there at Kuznetsova mansion and find out what they’ve been up to in the last couple of days. I want full discretion, I don’t want the old man finding out that we’re snooping behind their backs.”
“The daughter, you think she’s in on this?” Nail asked knowing how his mind works already.
“It’s either the daughter or the dad, or any of their enemies. But with such a limited time frame and the way the shooter ran off, I’m betting my money on the dad’s or the daughter.”
Nail looked at him nodding his head, the big scary mafia man knows that Darko was close to Zasha. He knew about their love affair, and he wouldn’t blame his friend for wanting to have the beautiful woman. He was also on the fence when he learned that Yegor was practically throwing her out of his mansion, risking the cartel should her dad finds out about his treatment.
But Nail was not worried about the underboss, he knows that Darko can and will do whatever he deemed necessary to save their boss and their cartel.Content © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Okay, let me and the boys handle this why don’t you rest and get your arm checked out. It’s bleeding, I’m guessing you will be needing stitches.”
Darko groaned when he looked at his arm. He didn’t have time for stitches, but he lets Nail call their in-house doctor to treat him before he rests back in his room.
That night he lay awake thinking about his mom, missing his old life where she would tuck him in every night and life was much simpler.
