Taming His Heart

Chapter 28

It’s been three weeks since I woke up alone. I haven’t heard one word from Kyle. Not a text or anything. I guess it really was just the bet. He has never disappeared like this before. Even when he and Courtney would break up, he would still be around. Now he is gone. I must repulse him that much.Text © by N0ve/lDrama.Org.

I am having coffee with Bridget when Pearson comes in. “Hey ladies. How goes it?”

Bridget gets a serious look. “It would seem that Kyle has ghosted Danny.”

He gets a confused look on his face. “Miller has been acting a little out of it lately. Coach has been riding his ass pretty hard the last few weeks. It just seems like his brain is somewhere else.”

He saddles in next to Bridget putting his arm around her shoulders.

“I’m not too worried about it. I know what this is. He won his bet, he didn’t need me anymore.”

Pearson’s jaw hangs open. Bridget looks at him. “What bet?” She looks a little pissed.

“It’s not my bet, baby. Um, how do you know about that?” He looks nervous as hell.

“He told me about it. He said that he wasn’t going to do it to me, but then well it happened. So he won and I haven’t heard from him since the day at the lake.”

Bridget tightens her jaw. “What bet?”

Pearson sighs. “It was some of the guys from the team. They bet on who would be the first to bed a virgin.”

Bridget gets pissed. “You know I am not one, so what the fuck? You thought I was, at first. Is that why you got with me?”

“No baby. I was never a part of the bet. I knew about it. I didn’t participate.” He turns back to me. “Wait, if it was just about the bet then why hasn’t he collected the winnings. The bet is still going.”

I shrug my shoulders. “I don’t know. He hasn’t talked to me.”

“I’m going to talk to him.” He turns back to Bridget. “Seriously baby. I had no part in that. I am just with you because I want to be. Don’t ever think this is some game. You are not a game.” He cups her cheek. I see her lean into it. He is so affectionate with her. It makes me miss Kyle more.

Bridget kisses him softly. “Next time come clean. I don’t want to hear anymore about bets like this.”

“Open book. I swear baby.” She curls her body into his.

“Well, I am going to head out. I have a ton of homework to do and Courtney has a doctor’s appointment that I promised her I would be there for.” I get up and leave the love birds alone. I don’t want to be like that, it just still hurts so bad. I struggle to hold in the tears as I walk back to my car.

KYLE

I didn’t even notice anyone around until an envelope slapped my chest. I grab it from Pearson’s hand. “What’s this?”

“Your winnings.”

I look at him confused. “Winnings from what?”

“The bet. That’s all she was right? She told me all about it.” He looks pissed. “You know I thought you said that you loved her. But I guess you’re just a big ass fucking liar.”

I passed the envelope back to him. “I didn’t win.”

“See a fucking liar. If you were going to do this to her, you can at least take the damn winnings.”

I glare at him. “Look, I fucked up ok. I panicked. Now I don’t know what to do about it. Didn’t you wonder why I never said I won. I didn’t tell a fucking soul. I do love Danny. I just have fucked up things so bad that I can’t even begin to figure out how to fix them.”

“She thinks you used her.”

I am guessing that he is pissed because she is crying to his girl. Who in turn would have found out about the bet. “I didn’t use her.”

“That’s not what she thinks.” He walks away.

I stare at the envelope like it is a bomb in my hands. All because of this, I killed any chance I had with Danny. She is going to hate me for the rest of my life. I will never have her back.
