Shouldn't Have Kissed You

Chapter 16

Chapter 16

Chris looked at his wrist watch for what seemed like a thousand time. It was almost two am in the

morning and she wasn't back. Where she had gone to with her date, he had no idea. He took his glass

of scotch to his lips for a sip but it was empty.18

He moved to the table to take the bottle so that he could top up his glass but it was also empty. How he

still walked straight despite him taking such a strong drink was behind his thinking. He placed the glass

on the table and walked to the couch.

He needed to relax himself. He had paced from one corner to another for only God knew how long. He

was more than tired. Tired of worrying about his wife's where about. Tired of thinking about the kiss he

had shared with her. Tired with everything that had to do with his life.1

Chris closed his eyes for a while. His head was spinning due to the alcohol that he had consumed all

the evening. Yes, he had taken so much for his own good and that was one of the many reasons he

wasn't with Kimberly at that time.

Kimberly. That name alone was enough for his head to throb more than it was before. It was her fault

that everything happened the way it did tonight. She couldn't stop talking about Maya from the moment

they moved to their table.

Despite him explaining that he thought it was her, she didn't believe him. She threw all kinda insults she

knew to him and Maya. At time, he even wondered why he was still in love with her. But again, love

knows no bad. Maybe it was her behavior that made him fall hard for her.

And Maya. The way she had kissed him back. God, he felt like he was floating at that time. If only he

could stop the time. He would have done that. So that he could be in her arms thinking that it was his

love, Kimberly.3

At least, he hoped she had changed her kissing style to surprise him only for him to find that it was the

woman he hated in the whole world. The Jezebel in flesh and blood. At that time, he wished he could

go and wash his mouth with all detergents that there is in the world.1

But his girlfriend stood there, at the door way wanting explanation. Explanation that he couldn't give

himself. That's why he stood there dumbstruck when Kimberly confronted Maya. Yes, it was her fault

that he had missed her.

She should have said anything. Anything at that matter, but instead she tried to act hard to get. She

was pretending to be a Virgin Mary when he knew better. They all knew better and for that only, he

hated her more.

He wanted to see her suffer. See her humiliated in front of his own eyes. That's what he was getting till

that guy came to her rescue. He sure wanted to beat the hell out of him the moment he started

standing up for Maya.

And how dare he? How dare he call her all those names in front of Chris. Chris watched him take Maya

to their table and treat her like a queen that she wasn't. She was a devil and devils like her deserved a

beating that she was getting from his girlfriend.6

What bothered him more was the way they were communicating. Like nothing happened. And the way

the guy held her hand on the dinning table. At that time, he felt his own hand go in a fist. He was ready

to hurt anything that came on his way.6

How he wanted to go over there and shout at the dude. Make him see that he was dinning with the

Jezebel. Warn him of her cunning ways but he didn't. Instead, he sat there and watched them. And

when Maya laughed, that was more tougher to him.

Her laughter was genuine. It wasn't a pretense and neither was it forced. It came out naturally This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.

something that he has never heard before from her. The only time Chris saw her smile was when she

faked it. And of course during his show which was genuine at that time.

And with her laugher, he looked up to see her take the guy's hand. He said something to her which she

didn't say anything, instead, she pushed him playfully and they walked towards the double doors. She

looked over to him before walking away.

Kimberly on the other hand, kept her mouth moving. He had even gotten lost somewhere and that

place is where he began to watch over at the other table. Once Maya were out, he looked over at

Kimberly and she was still talking.

She said something about Maya being a lucky witch since she had handsome men wrapped around

her fingers. Chris wanted to say not him but something reminded him that she was still in that kiss.

The kiss that was a mistake to him. Of course, it was a mistake but he seemed to be making those

mistakes with Maya. Why not with anyone else? Why not with Kimberly? That, he still had no idea off.

The dinner that he was so looking forward to ended up in a bitter way. He kept drinking without

stopping at anything and Kimberly went on with the insult. She left the place once she saw that he had

finished two bottles of white wine and all the time, he said nothing.

Chris got up and placed the bill on the table before he went to his room. He didn't have the energy to

argue with his love at that point. He walked to the bathroom and took a cold shower at least to cool his

argue.1

Once done, he wore sweatpants and a vest. And that's how he was sitting on the couch waiting for his

beloved wife. While she, she was whoring herself only hell knew where. He felt foot steps from outside

and he was on his feet in a jiffy.

Chris walked towards the door and leaned against it. There were two people and he was sure that one

of them was Maya. She had to be there since they were the only ones who lived on that floor. Which

meant the dude was with her. The footsteps stopped on the door way and he knew that because it was

so quiet to an extent that he could hear a needle once it fell down.

"I guess this is the part where I say goodnight," Chris heard the man's voice.

"Yeah, but it's already morning so it's good morning," Maya spoke up in a joyous mood that Chris could

detect even behind closed doors. "And it's all thanks to you."

"I'm glad that I kept you busy all night, love."4

Chris fought the urge to walk out there and bit the hell out of the man's life. How dare he? He was

about to open the door when Maya spoke.

"You know what?" She asked, "You better go and get some sleep since you haven't slept anything all

night."

"I still have few hours for that, pretty."

"Okay, drive safely," Chris heard the key lock unlock.

"Am I not getting my goodbye kiss?"

That was it. His patience had gone with the wind. He held the doorknob to open the door...

"All the kisses that you woke me up with are enough to last you a year."4

"You can't be that mean to me, love."

Chris pulled the door opened and at that moment Maya fell backwards. He had no idea that she was

leaning on the door. He caught her before her backbone could kiss the door. His gaze locked with the

green ones.

They were pure happiness in them. He even saw them spark for the first time in his life. But it wasn't for

long, he knew that himself. So, he pushed her upwards breaking eye conduct with her.

He saw Maya stable in front of him but he didn't care. His eyes were on the handsome man that stood

on the hallway with a smirk that was now disappearing from his eyes.

"I'm Chris Rollins," he began, "I'm sure that name tells you allot."1

Leonel looked up at him then moved his gaze to Maya, "You're her husband, it's nice to meet you," he

said offering his hand to Chris. "I'm Leonel..."

"Leonel Ambrose, a magazine model and right now you've to leave since it's late. Thanks for bringing

her home safely, but this is the last time you see her again, kid. Unless," he pulled Maya beside him,

"you want to be jobless for the rest of your life. I think you know what I mean, just one phone call and

your jobless."6

"Sir, your misunderstanding everything here, Maya is just my friend."

Chris' hand was in a fist that it hurt his knuckles.

"Yeah, sure thing. A friend that you wake up with kisses, a friend that you bring home late night. She is

a married woman and if I see you even ten kilometers away from her, your done. Now get lost."1

Chris saw Leonel fight against walking away and wanting to say something. But at the end run, he

walked towards the elevator. He pushed Maya inside and locked the door behind him. It was time for

her to pay.

To pay for him waiting so long for her. To pay for ruining his date with Kimberly. To pay for him not being

able to stay till night with Kimberly. And for him having a bad evening in general. Even making him take

that bitter scotch. It was time and no one was going to save her.12
