Chapter 247 Successful Surgery
Chapter 247 Successful Surgery
Lily and Joanne left delightfully the moment they saw the miscarriage. However, they did not expect to
be faced with a swarm of police officers after they opened the door. Both Lily and Joanne were
immediately subdued, and the masked pregnant woman was carried out. Joanne and Lily were
shocked to find out that the pregnant woman they had beaten up was not Irene but a stranger.
"What's going on?" Lily pointed at the stranger woman and asked Wayne angrily.
"What are you talking about? Isn't she the woman that you had asked me to kidnap?" Wayne retorted.
"Y-you! How dare you lie to me?" Even an idiot would know that Lily had been set up. However, she
had found out too late. The police put Joanna and Lily under charges for kidnapping with murder intent.
According to Article 239 of the Criminal Law, anyone found kidnapping another person or holding them
as hostage for the purpose of extorting property would be sentenced to more than ten years
imprisonment or life imprisonment, and would be fined or confiscated of all assets. If the kidnapping
resulted in the death or murder of the hostage, the person would be sentenced to death and have their
property confiscated.
The police believed that the kidnapping posed a significant threat to the intended victim, which had
even resulted in a miscarriage. Hence, they decided that Lily and Joanne should be sentenced to
death.
After being appealed by a lawyer, they were sentenced to life imprisonment. So, Lily and Joanne were
to be locked up in jail for the rest of their lives.
In fact, the whole scenario had been planned by Edric and Jordan. They took great precautions when
Joanne returned to Haverland. They had planned to let her off if Joanne behaved well. After all, getting
rid of her would mean avoiding any trouble appearing in the future. However, in the end, Joanne had Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
indeed been up to no good and had gone to look for Lily. Edric knew immediately about their discussion
to target Irene. Since those two brats intended to dig their own grave, they might as well fulfill their
dream. Hence, they had planned the whole act and sent them to jail.
That pregnant woman was not really pregnant. It was all just a play.
After Joanne and Lily's matters were done and dusted, it was almost time for Irene's delivery. Edric
went to prepare for Eden's stem cell operation. He hired the best hematologist and gynecologist to
complete Irene's delivery and Eden's blood transfusion in the same hospital.
Eden was sent into the ward nine days before and had to undergo eight chemotherapy-filled days as
planned. He was isolated from the outside world, and no one could enter his room except for the
medical staff.
After eight days of chemotherapy and a day's suspension of medicine, it was the day of the surgery.
On the day of Eden's operation, Irene underwent a cesarean delivery in the operating room. Eden had
been delivered naturally, but for the sake of Eden's stem cell surgery, Irene had to proceed with a C-
section surgery instead. She was given anesthesia on the operating table, but she was still fully
conscious. She could listen to the cutting sound on her skin, but her courage did not waver. Instead, all
she had in mind was the wellbeing of her children.
Edric was guarding outside the operating room and he witnessed the entire surgery. It was a moment
for him to witness a new life being born. When he saw with his own eyes the baby being taken out, he
could not hold himself and felt too emotional. Tears welled up in his eyes instantly.
The nurse was busy measuring the height of the newborn while the doctor was taking the umbilical
blood. Irene tried to see the child's appearance clearly upon hearing the clear sound of her baby crying.
Edric noticed Irene's movements and whispered in her ears, "Irene, it's a boy, and he's a healthy baby.
The doctor is taking the umbilical blood to treat Eden. You've worked hard!"
After finishing his words, he planted a kiss on Irene's forehead. The baby was wrapped up and placed
in Edric's arms. Edric walked out with the baby in his embrace as Margaret, Kinsey, and Rowane
waited outside of the operating room anxiously.
Margaret was the first to rush forward to carry the baby when Edric walked out, "My grandson! Oh, it's
my grandson!"
Then, she asked Edric, "How's Irene?"
"Irene is fine. She will be out soon after they close her up." Edric answered, "Mom, you take care of
Irene. I'll go and see Eden."
Margaret nodded. Rowane and Kinsey held on to the baby while waiting for Irene outside of the
operating theatre.
The doctor took the blood of the umbilical cord for Eden's transplant. Eden's transplant was next to
Irene's operating room for convenience. Irene was undergoing the final sutures when Eden began the
blood transplant.
The attending surgeon had a quick meeting about the surgery before leading the surgery for the
transplant into Eden's body. As the catheter was inserted into the body through the clavicle, the primary
operation was to transfer the blood from the umbilical cord through the central vein. The doctor
estimated that the transplant would be completed in half an hour.
Edric stood outside of the operating theatre nervously as he observed his son behind a thin layer of
glass. The surgeon was transfusing the umbilical blood into Eden's body through the central vein.
During the process, some gases were produced in Eden's body in reaction to the transplant, and there
were signs of discomfort. Eden struggled in pain, and his facial expression showed pain. The attending
surgeon wanted Eden to cry out loud in order for him to exhale harshly to expel the gases.
Eden's cry tore Edric's heart. If only he could be the one to bear all the pain! He pulled on his hair
strands in pain. Jordan and Nathan held his hands upon witnessing Edric's actions, trying to cheer with
Edric for Eden.
The heart-wrenching scene finally ended. The blood from the cord was completely transferred, and
Eden's heart was pumping in order. Everything had gone smoothly, and the heavy burden on Edric's
shoulder finally dropped.
After the surgeon left the room, Edric held his hand and thanked him.
Irene had been trying to stay awake. She really wanted to know how Eden's operation went, but there
was no way for her to resist the anesthesia. She was exhausted from exerting so much strength. She
could only hear a soft whisper beside her. It was Edric's voice. He whispered, "Irene, rest assured, our
child will be fine. You can sleep without worrying. Everything will be fine when you wake up!"
Irene did not know how long she slept. She did not even realize when she had been pushed into the
ward, but she could faintly hear familiar voices around her. There were voices coming from Kinsey,
Rowane, Margaret, and of course, Edric.
She tried her best to open her eyes and saw the people in the ward surrounding her. When Irene
opened her eyes, Edric came over immediately. He reached out and held Irene's hand with a big smile
on his face, "Irene, you're awake?"
"Eden! How's Eden?" Irene was most concerned about Eden's operation.
"Eden's surgery went extremely smoothly. Don't worry!" Edric answered immediately.
"It's good that everything went well!" Irene thought and felt relieved instantly. As long as Eden's surgery
went well, she would not be worried anymore.
Margaret approached with the baby in her arms, "Irene, the baby's weight is three and a half kilograms,
and he's healthy. Have a look at him!"
Irene chuckled when she saw the chubby baby in Margaret's arms.
Kinsey, Rowane, Nathan, and Jordan came to congratulate her. Irene thanked each of them for their
concern. After chatting for a while in the ward, everyone left. Edric remembered that Irene had not
eaten for a long time and felt worried, "Irene, are you hungry?"
"I'm hungry!" Irene was famished after not eating anything for quite some time.
Edric glanced at Margaret and asked, "Mom, have you brought any food that the maids have
prepared? Irene has been discharged from her surgery for quite a few hours already."
Margaret glanced at her watch and glared at her son, "I'm more worried about Irene than you are, but
now isn't the time for her to eat yet. I've checked with the doctor just now. She needs to excrete the gas
in her after a C-section before she can consume anything. Eating too early could cause a
stomachache. If it's serious, it could cause the stomach to malfunction and cause an obstruction in the
intestines."
"Ah, really?" Edric did not expect that at all.
"That's right."
"Then, what should we do? Is she going to starve?" Edric looked at Irene, his heart reaching out for
her.
"There's no other way. Irene has to suffer for a while longer," Margaret had no other choice.
"You should go home. You're in poor health, so it's better to go back and have a rest. Edric is here,"
Irene knew that Margaret must have stayed in the hospital all day. Margaret was old, and her body had
only recovered recently, so she must not tire herself out.
"Yes, Mom. You go back first. I'll be fine here!" Edric chipped in to persuade her. Margaret was tired
from staying in the hospital until now, so she did not insist on staying.
After Margaret left, Edric sat beside Irene's hospital bed. He brushed away the hair from Irene's face
and reached out to hold Irene's hand, "Irene, thank you!"
"Thank you for giving birth to Eden! Thank you for forgiving me! I know that I'm not a good enough
man. I know that I've hurt you deeply in the past, but Irene, as long as you give me a chance, I will not
let you down."
"I will repay you in double for my sins towards Eden. From now on, I will protect you and the children
forever and I'll never abandon you!"
Edric squeezed Irene's hand, and she could feel the warmth emanating from Edric's palm. She felt
touched. After one full circle, she was once again back at Edric's side. This time, it was not just them
anymore. They had their children and Margaret, who supported them. She believed that they would be
happy from then onwards.
Edric had been running to both ends. While taking care of Irene, he had to go check on his son's
condition. Irene's condition was still alright, but he was most worried about Eden. Although the blood
had been successfully transfused into Eden's body, it did not mean that the operation had definitely
succeeded.
The doctor told Edric that after finishing the transfusion into Eden's body, he needed to overcome the
infection, adapting and rejection period. Only then could he be considered to have successfully
received the blood.
Among them, getting past the rejection period might be the most difficult. The rejection reaction could
happen at any time, and included high fever, vomiting, lack of appetite, diarrhea, and other things. The
doctor needed to attend to the treatment at any time, and Eden needed to cooperate actively. Under
normal circumstances, it would return to the average levels after three to four weeks. By then, they
could leave the ward.
Edric went to visit his son every hour. Edric was highly anxious due to the uncertainty of the situation,
but he could not show it in front of Irene.
Every time Irene asked him about Eden's condition, he always answered that he was in good condition.
Finally, the doctor reported to Edric that Eden's situation was stable and he had successfully passed
the three stages. Edric was over the moon and immediately told Irene about it.
Irene was starting to try to walk. When she heard the news, she was thrilled. So, Edric had to help her
to visit Eden. Through the glass door, they could see Eden talking to them from the ward. Due to the
sound insulation effect, they could not hear him clearly. However, it seemed like Eden was calling for
his parents.
Tears streamed down Irene's face, "My son!" she thought, "My precious son is finally safe now!"
Eden was soon moved to an ordinary ward. When Irene and Edric visited him, Eden hugged Irene and
Edric and kissed them on the cheeks, "Dad, Mom, I want to see my younger brother."
"Your younger brother is sleeping. When he wakes up, we'll bring him over to see you," Irene
explained.
"Mom, what's my younger brother's name?" Eden asked again.
"Hayden."
"Hayden?"
"That's right! Hayden!"
"I want to thank my brother for saving me. I'll treat him even better in the future. I'll give him all the good
things I have and protect him from being bullied by other people. I'll let him live a happy life!" Eden
swore.
"Not only do we want Hayden to live happily, but we also want our family to live happily as well! We
have to be together and live a happy life forever!" Irene replied.
"We must live a happy life as a family!" Edric held Irene and Eden's hands and echoed. The three of
them looked at each other and smiled.
Their family had gone through many ups and downs and so much pain. Now that all the hardships had
come to an end, they had to live a happy and peaceful life.
Three months later, Nathan and Rowane had their wedding in Mencodia. Irene and Edric brought their
two sons to attend the wedding. Kinsey and Jordan attended the wedding as well, but this time with
another identity, which was as the groomsman and the bridesmaid.
Kinsey had already met Jordan's side of the family, which was the Reed Family. The Reed Family was
satisfied with this carefree girl. On the day of their meeting, they had given many expensive gifts to
Kinsey.
Kinsey told Irene that she had felt anxious to meet the Reed Family that her palms had been sweaty.
She thought that she would be faced with countless obstacles, but nothing had happened in the end.
Pedro was kind to her, and Lydia was friendly to her. After the meeting, the Reed Family was already
planning their engagement ceremony.
The wedding bells sounded. Irene's eyes were brimming with tears as she watched Nathan and
Rowane say 'I do' to each other under the witness of the priest, friends, relatives. Finally, they
exchanged rings and kissed each other.
After the storm, she could finally see the rainbow. She wished for her happiness and peace for the rest
of her life together with the people she loved!
The End.
