Return of the Bad Boy Alpha Chapter 47
Magnus
It's been about four months since the birth of my pups, and I am now the Royal Beta. Rocky Bedford was stripped of his title and sent to prison for twenty years for kidnapping my daughter. I have been training the new Gamma, George Abbott, Kerry's cousin, for two months. It's a lot of work being the King's Beta and training a new gamma, but I feel it is worth it.
Naomi is as protective of our pups as ever. She worked with Lars, the archive keeper, and can now work from our apartment while keeping an eye on Axel and Nova. There have been a handful of kidnapping attempts, and it is exhausting everyone. Naomi rarely leaves the apartment and now sleeps in their room. It has affected our relationship as we barely ever talk and get zero time alone.
"Hey, Beta," I am greeted by Gamma George as I walk toward the King's office.
"What's up, George?" I smile at him. He is only twenty-one but is a strong and intelligent male and I feel the right choice for the position, not just because he is Kerry's cousin. "How is your morning going?" "Oh, it's going good, Mag," He smiles.
We enter Kerry's office, and he is sitting at his desk talking on the phone. He waves us in, and I sit in my usual spot in front of the desk. Kerry laughs before he hangs up the phone. "Morning, gentlemen," The king greets us. "Anything new?" "The day has just begun, Kerry," I laugh. "But no, nothing new yet. I am about to about my duties."
Kerry looks at his cousin, "Are you confident to be left alone, Georgie?"
George rolls his eyes, "Yes, Kerry."
"And he knows to call me if he has questions," I add.
"How is Naomi this morning?" Kerry asks me.
"She was still sleeping when I left," I reply with an air of sadness.
"Things still tense with you two?" Kerry asks.
I sigh and shrug. "It's the same as it has been since the twins were born."
"I'll have Moira and Emery keep her company," Kerry sighs also.
"Thank you," I respond and stand up.
George follows me out of the office, "I feel bad for your mate," He sighs. "Makes me a little apprehensive about meeting my mate and having pups."
"It shouldn't, George," I tell him. "Having a mate is wonderful, as is having pups. It's just hard because our daughter has a different kind of wolf."
"I think my family line is just regular wolves, well alpha wolves," George huffs.
I nod and pat his shoulder, "I'll see you later, George." I head in the opposite direction. I have to check on various things throughout the day. I almost reach my car when I get a sour feeling in my stomach, and Kairos growls. 'Magnus!' Naomi's distressed voice calls in my mind.
'Naomi,' I turn and start running back into the palace.
'Nova is gone again,' She cries. 'I was just in the bathroom for three seconds while the maid was cleaning the kitchen,' She explains.
I sigh heavily and run towards the stairs just as the elevator opens, revealing our regular maid, Olga, with a crying pink bundle in her arms. "Give me my daughter, Olga," I growl loudly.
The maid holds my daughter tightly, "The man told me to bring her to him," she argues.
"Give me my daughter!" I snarl in my beta tone, watch the omega stiffen, and loosen her hold on my crying pup.
I snatch Nova from the woman, "Shh, it's okay, Nova. Daddy has you." I whisper. I snap my fingers at a pair of guards, "Take that woman to the cells!" I order them.
"Yes, sir, Beta, sir," They reply and arrest Olga.
"I was only doing what he told me," Olga shouts.
"Wait," I hold up my hand. "Who told you?"
"Magnus," Kerry's voice echoes down the hallway. "What's going on?"
I point at Olga, "I just caught her trying to take my daughter," I rock Nova, and she coos in my arms. I can't help but smile at her despite the gravity of the situation. "You look just like your Mom." "What?" Kerry looks at the maid. "Why were you trying to take the baby?"
"He told me to bring her to him," Olga sniffles.
"Who?" I demand, and Olga drops to her knees.
"I'm sorry, Beta, I am so sorry. Please don't put me in jail. I have pups to feed. He told me to bring her to him," Olga pleads.
"WHO TOLD YOU?!" I roar. Nova whimpers and Kerry places his hand on my upper arm.
"Calm down, Magnus," Kerry says to me. "Answer the Beta's question."
"I don't know his name but the Queen's brother," Olga whimpers.
"Cedric," I hiss. "Where were you taking Nova?"
"If I tell you, will you let me go?" She pleads.
I look at Kerry, "I'll have you transferred after a month-long suspension." He glances at me, "Is that an acceptable punishment?"
"If it leads us to Cedric," I respond.
"Take us to where Cedric told you to go," Kerry orders Olga.
"Wait, we should be more discrete," I caution. 'Naomi, I have Nova,' I mind link my mate.
"You are right, Mag," Kerry huffs.
"When did he want her?" I ask Olga.
"In a few minutes," She responds.
The elevator dings, and Naomi walks out with Axel in the double stroller. She runs over to me, and I let her take Nova, "I am so sorry, baby girl." She cries. I touch my mate and kiss her cheek, but she places Nova in the stroller with Axel and returns to the elevator. I sigh but say nothing.
I look at the trembling maid, "Take me to where you were going to hand off my daughter," I snarl at her.
"I'm coming with you," Kerry nods. He says something to the guards, who hang back as we let Olga lead us to Cedric. We followed her through the omega quarters out the back door. The wizard appeared almost instantly and saw me. He smirked. "I will get that pup if it kills me," He chuckles.
Kairos lets out a roar and forces a shift, and I tackle the wizard to the ground. Cedric uses lightning to push us off of him and get to his feet. He starts chanting, and Kairos attacks him again and clamps down on the wizard's throat. His hot blood spills into my mouth. Cedric screams, "Kerry! Get him off of me!"
"You brought this on yourself, Cedric," Kerry responds.
Kairos shakes his head and sinks his teeth further into the wizard's throat. Cedric struggles to breathe as I feel his life waning. Kairos stares into the eyes of the wizard. 'You will never touch my pup again!' He roars.
"Others will be coming for her," Cedric whispers as blood spills out of his mouth. "She will always be in danger. Kill her-" Kairos clamps down and rips Cedric's throat wide open, and the wizard stops moving. He spits out the flesh in his jaws and looks at the king. Kerry looks down at his dead brother-in-law but says nothing.
Kairos gives control to me, and I shift back into human form. "I had to do what I did," I tell my friend.
"I know," Kerry frowns. "Moira is going to be distraught."
I shrug, "At least I won't have to worry about my daughter being kidnapped every day." I start to walk away. I need to check on Naomi and my pups.
"Magnus, what Cedric said-" Kerry trails off.
"I know," I mumble and walk into the palace. I get upstairs and enter my apartment. Phoebe is sitting on the couch with her daughter beside Naomi. Naomi has Nova in her arms, and Axel is nearby in the stroller.
She looks up at me, "Did you kill him?"
I nod and sit beside her, still naked. Phoebe cringes and tosses a blanket at me, "I don't need to see your junk, Mag," she snickers.
I ignore her and look at my mate. I touch my daughter's forehead, "Cedric is dead."All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
Naomi nods and rocks Nova. "I can't keep doing this, Magnus. I can't sleep, I can't eat," Tears stream down her cheeks. "My Mom said she could contact my Grandma."
"Okay," I say with mild confusion.
"I want my Grandma to take Nova. I know we were going to wait until she was sixteen, but I can't keep doing this for sixteen years, Magnus. I love our daughter more than anything, and I would rather she be safe away from us than be in danger every day with us." Tears well up in my eyes as I look at my daughter. "So, what are you saying? We should give up our daughter?" I run my hand down my face.
"It's the right thing to do, Magnus," Naomi sobs.
Phoebe rubs her arm. "You have to think about Nova."
"If it's for the best," I concede with a heavy sigh.
Two days later, Abigail returns to the palace with her partner Frieda. Naomi is distraught as she says goodbye to our baby girl in her arms. I am holding Axel.
"I am so sorry, Nova," She sobs and looks at her grandmother. "Please tell her that we love her."
"I will tell her every day, dear," Abigail hugs Naomi.
"She will be safe with us," Frieda adds. "We will raise her with love and teach her to use her powers for good."
"Once a year, we will bring Nova to a secret designated place so you can see her. So her brother can see her," Abigail explains and reaches for our daughter.
I give Frieda a bag with Nova's toys and blankets. There are also pictures of Naomi, Axel, and me. I look at Nova, "You be good for your Great-Grandma, Nova. Daddy loves you more than anything." I touch her cheek and lean down to kiss her forehead. Naomi gives our daughter one last hug and kiss before passing her to Abigail. Nova begins to cry. "Hush, little one," Abigail rocks her. "We have to get going."
Frieda says a spell, and a portal opens. Naomi and I wave as Abigail carries our crying daughter through the closing portal. We stand there for a few minutes, looking at where the portal was before we make our way back into the palace. We pray that we did the right thing and that Nova will be safe with Abigail and Frieda.
"We'll see her again," I say quietly, mostly to myself.
Three years later, Naomi and I are waiting in a strange dark forest with our sons. Centuries-old trees the size of houses soar overhead. Axel chases a squirrel while I hold our one-year-old son, Finn. There is a flash of light as a portal appears, and Abigail steps through with a brown-haired little girl beside her.
Naomi gasps, claps her hands, and bends down, "Nova?"
"Mommy, Daddy!" Nova squeals and runs over to us. I kneel and call Axel over, and I get to hold my whole family in my arms, if only for a few minutes.
Nova plays with her brothers while Abigail tells us stories and gives us photos and other mementos. Tears are shed when it's time for Abigail and Nova to go. We wave goodbye to our daughter once again as they disappear into the portal.
For thirteen years, we look forward to our brief visits with Nova. Then on her and Axel's sixteenth birthday, we wait for her and Abigail to appear, but they never show. The next day a note arrives in the mail.
Your daughter, the last Blythe Wolf, now belongs to me. You will never see her again.
