Chapter 48 Chapter 48. Nelly’s POV.
The kiss between Alpha Kex and me was suddenly interrupted by the jarring sound of shattering glass. | flinched, startled by the unexpected noise.
Alpha Kex hurried to the door, he opened the door carefully, avoiding the shattered glass that littered the floor. He bent down and peered into the hallway, searching for the source of the noise. When he saw that no one was there, he sighed with relief and stood up straight.
“No one’s there,” he said, turning to me with a puzzled expression on his face.
“What was that?” | asked, my voice quivering with anxiety.
He shrugged, his face suddenly blank, devoid of emotion..
“Someone must have been spying on us,” he said, his voice betraying a hint of unease.
He quickly pulled on his shirt and trousers, his movements hurried and uncharacteristically clumsy. | nodded, a chill running down my spine.

He sighed, his features soft and resigned. “I'll send a maid to clean this up,” he said, nodding towards the broken glass on the floor.

| stood up, the wooden floorboards creaking beneath my bare feet. | walked slowly to the wardrobe, its doors standing open like an invitation. | reached for my favorite pair of loose pants and a black shirt, their soft fabric soothing my frayed nerves.

| pulled her close and whispered in her ear. She listened carefully, her eyes focused on mine. When | finished, she nodded slowly.
“Should | come along?” she asked, her voice soft. | shook my head.
“No, it’s better if you stay here. | don’t want us to be together in case it goes wrong.”
She looked at me, concerned in her eyes. “Are you sure?” she asked.

The hallway was empty, save for a single guard approaching from the opposite direction. He looked in my direction, and | feigned innocence, playing with my hair and looking around casually.
The guard's gaze lingered on me for a moment, then he continued on his way. My heart was still racing as | turned back to the door and slipped inside.
| moved to the wardrobe, opening the doors as quietly as | could. | rifled through the clothes, searching for anything that might be related to the late beta. But there was nothing there, and | began to feel a sense of desperation.
| bent down and checked under the bed, my heart sinking as | found no stood up, my hands on my waist, my mind racing. | paced around the room, my eyes. scanning every inch for any sign of the missing item. But there was nothing. | was running out of time..

“Oh, this is your room,” | said, trying to sound nonchalant as | looked around, my eyes. wide
