Cynthia lazily tore off a piece of bread and put it in her mouth. “Lilian set me up, and I’ve paid her back in kind. Please tell her that we’re even now. But if she keeps playing tricks behind my back, I won’t be so polite next time.”

Lilian had smeared her online, causing her to lose her prime–time hosting position. In return, Cynthia brought Lilian’s mother to the TV station to create a scene, leveling the score. And it seemed that Lilian’s troubles were far from over.

Filip remained silent for a moment before speaking. “I was drunk last night… Did I say anything?”

Cynthia thought of the scar on Filip’s waist, her gaze unconsciously falling there. Filip seemed to notice, and his face turned pale. “You saw it?”

A hint of guilt appeared on Cynthia’s face. “I didn’t know you were hurt that badly back then.”

A flash of anger and disgust passed through Filip’s eyes. “Cynthia, don’t look at me with that expression.”

He saw right through her–saw the guilt and sympathy in her eyes. If it were real, it wouldn’t have been so bad, but it was fake, just an act.

She feels disgusted yet pretends to feel guilty, which is utterly repulsive, Filip thought. Pity alone was already enough to wound a man’s pride, but pity wrapped in falsehood was even worse.

“I’m sorry. Your injury was because of me,” said Cynthia.

Filip suddenly exploded in rage. “Cut the act, Cynthia! You’re disgusted, aren’t you? You even wished I was dead! You’re just a vicious hypocrite pretending to be some saint. Why bother?”

Cynthia caught the key to his words. “What did I do to make you think that?”

“Your diary spelled it all out. Are you still going to deny it?” Filip said furiously.

Cynthia had indeed kept a diary since she was young, but she had no memory of ever writing anything about hating Filip or wishing him dead.

Plus, she had lost one of her diaries during her college years. Since then, she hadn’t written in one again.

“You’ve read my diary? Tell me, what I wrote that made you think so poorly of me?” she asked.

Even after all these years, the memory of what he had read in her diary still hurt Filip deeply.

“You know exactly what you wrote,” he said.

“Since you won’t say, then bring out the diary. Let’s settle this face–to–face.” Cynthia suspected that the diary she had lost was in Filip’s possession.

Filip scoffed. “I burned it long ago.”

The atmosphere was unbearably tense, and the air was thick with the scent of conflict.

Cynthia was the first to calm down. “You probably wouldn’t believe me if I told you before that Lilian was the one driving a wedge between us. But now, you should be able to see for yourself that she’s not the pure and innocent person you thought she was. Still, you’ve chosen her, so the past doesn’t matter anymore.”

A dark look flashed in Filip’s eyes.

I’m tired of fighting with Lilian, whether openly or in secret. Tell her I’ve already given you up to her. But if she continues to cause trouble for me, I’ll take back what’s mine–and even what’s not,” she

said.

Filip raised his head, staring intently at Cynthia. His expression was cold, with a sharp, icy glint in his eyes. His voice was equally frigid. “Cynthia, I’m a person, not an object you can just and over.”

They parted on bad terms. Cynthia found it somewhat absurd. Isn’t this exactly the outcome they both wanted? What else can they expect from me?‘ she thought.

After leaving the Yates residence, Cynthia headed to Greenfield Villa.

She hadn’t slept well the night before and planned to catch up on sleep. But as soon as she stepped inside, she saw Jonathan coming down from the second floor.

He stopped when he saw her, and Cynthia casually greeted him. Heading to the office?”

Jonathan didn’t respond, just stared down at her from the stairs. It wasn’t until she walked past him that he finally spoke. “Why didn’t you answer your phone?”

Cynthia took out her phone from her bag and glanced at it. “The battery died.”

She noticed that Jonathan didn’t look pleased. “Did you wait for me last night? I told you I had plans and not to wait up.”

Jonathan locked eyes with her. “You didn’t say you wouldn’t be coming home.”

Cynthia smiled, leaning in to plant a light kiss on his lips in an attempt to soothe him. “Sorry, darling. Next time, I’ll let you know in advance.”

She was about to head upstairs to get some rest when Jonathan suddenly grabbed her arm with a firm grip.

“Cynthia, what do you take me for? A lapdog?” His normally refined face was now flushed with anger. “You pet me when you’re in the mood and kick me aside when you’re not?”

Cynthia didn’t quite understand why Jonathan was so furious this morning. After all, she had told him not to wait for her. But in the past three years, he had occasionally been so willful.

She patiently tried to calm him down. “I really had something to take care of yesterday. How about I make it up to you tonight?”

Usually, Jonathan would let things go by now, but this time, his expression grew even darker. “Your ‘business‘ was flirting with Filip in the lobby of the Opulence Club?”

Cynthia immediately caught on. “So you were at Opulence Club last night?” Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.

No wonder Jonathan is so angry–he has seen me with Filip,‘ Cynthia thought for a moment before deciding to explain. “He was drunk last night, and I just helped him get home.”

“Why does it have to be you who takes him home when he is drunk? Cynthia, what exactly is your relationship with him now?” Jonathan was still frustrated.

“Out of gratitude for the Yates family, helping him out wasn’t a big deal,” Cynthia said.

Jonathan sneered. “Are you really doing this out of gratitude for the Yates family, or do you still have feelings for Filip?”

He had heard every word Cynthia said while holding Filip the night before. She had talked to him so affectionately and -promised never to abandon him, soothing him as if he were a child.

Jonathan’s lips curled into a mocking smile. “You really have a way with men, don’t you?”

He then grabbed Cynthia’s chin. “Am I not enough for you? Are you that eager to get back with Filip?”

Cynthia’s eyes turned cold, but her lips still held a trace of a smile. “Mr. Bennett, you’re overstepping.”

Jonathan frowned, his gaze–dark and stormy.

Cynthia maintained her usual elegant smile, her voices

“Of course, if you’re tired of this, Mr. Bennett, you can end it whenever you like. I’ll move out immediately,” she added. can end it whenever you like I move out immediately; she added.

Jonathan stared at the stunning woman before him, whose message was crystal clear. ‘She hasn’t slept with Filip, but her heart is still with him, and she is telling me not to interfere,‘ he thought.

Jonathan even suspected that if he did end their relationship, she wouldn’t hesitate to leave, perhaps even celebrate with a bottle of champagne.
