too?”
Lilian maintained her innocent expression. “You’re misunderstanding me. I just think my skills are a perfect fit here. I never meant to take anything from you, and Filip wasn’t taken from you either.”
“Oh?” Cynthia stretched out casually, lounging on the plush leather chair. “I’ve always wondered what went down when you and Filip were at summer camp. I mean, it can’t have been that easy to steal him away.” Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.
When Filip had been with Cynthia, he had spoiled her with affection, and she could feel his love. But after that summer camp, he changed completely. The warmth vanished, replaced by an icy indifference–no love, just resentment.
Lilian’s checks flushed slightly as old memories bubbled to the surface.
Cynthia seemed to pick up on her discomfort. “Forget it. I’m not really interested in your dirty tricks.”
“No, it’s not what you think!” Lilian rushed to explain.
But Cynthia lost her patience. She stood up, her gaze fixed firmly on Lilian. “Stop wasting my time, or you might just meet the old me from three years ago.” She tossed her hair over her shoulder dramatically. “I need to get ready for Midday News Insight.”
Lilian watched as Cynthia walked away, and her expression turned steely. ‘Cynthia, I’m going to take everything from you- your husband, your job, and your family. Soon, you’ll find yourself alone, facing the world in disgrace. I’ve waited for this day, and when it comes, you’ll finally see why I’ve done all of this.
That night, Lilian returned to her room at the Betrico Hotel. Filip was already there.
Lilian’s eyes lit up with surprise. “Didn’t you say you were going back to the Yates residence today?”
Filip stepped closer, wrapping an arm around her shoulders while the other resting gently on her belly. “I missed you and the baby.”
A blush crept across Lilian’s face. “Just hearing you say that makes me happy, no matter where
you are.”
Filip pulled her into a warm embrace. “I’m sorry for putting you through all this. You deserve so much better.”
Lilian spoke softly, “As long as your heart is with me, I don’t feel wronged. Once our baby is born, we’ll have our happy little family.”
Filip said with determination, “Don’t worry, I’ll handle things with Cynthia quickly. I’ll make sure you and the baby have a place in my life.”
When Cynthia’s name came up, Filip’s expression grew serious. “How was your first day at the station? Did Cynthia give you any trouble?”
Lilian’s gaze flickered. “No… you know, she thinks I’m trying to steal you away. She’s always treated me that way.”
“I knew she would bully you. I’ll deal with her right now,” Filip said, tensing up.
But Lilian held his arm gently. “Don’t do that. Honestly, being with you makes all of this worth it. Your parents already have their doubts about me. If you go back now, it’ll just make things worse.
Some battles just aren’t worth fighting.”
Filip hesitated, thinking about how his parents viewed Lilian. He pulled her back into his embrace. “If you’re hurting, please. tell me. I won’t let Cynthia bully you. And remember, I don’t belong to her, and you didn’t steal me. She never deserved me in the first place.”
With her head resting against his chest, a spark brightened Lilian’s eyes. “Filip, have you ever met Jonathan? Do you know- him?”
