Chapter 10 The Mark She Left
Hearing Kevin, Jessica gave a self-mocking smile. She was aware that he had never loved her, and what he said totally met her expectations.
Kevin’s biggest wish this life was to distinguish himself, to have a position in high society and to honor his family. In his view, Leila should be pampered and well educated, while Jessica should naturally do all the dirty work.
“I see.”
“Don’t think too much. I do care about you. Mr. Fletcher is dying, and the Fletcher family will no longer care about you when he dies. Once you bring our family business back to life, you can choose any rich man you want.”
Kevin was relieved that Jessica agreed.
“I appreciate it,” Jessica said in a low voice and hung up the phone. She gripped her phone, feeling bitter. She had always longed for family affection, or at least a complete family where she was loved by her parents, even if they lived an ordinary life.
When her mother died, Jessica was expelled to the outland. She had never been loved by her father or lived in a complete family ever since.
Jessica snuggled up to Lorenzo subconsciously at that thought. The man’s broad chest was enough to offer a shelter or a sense of security to her.
Her mind in a turmoil, Jessica thought she would stay awake until dawn, but unexpectedly, she actually had a sound sleep.
…
Sunshine came through the window and brushed Lorenzo’s eyes. He raised his hand to shade them against the sun. He couldn’t remember how long it had been since he had last slept through the night.
Lorenzo wanted to tighten his hold on the little girl, who had snuggled up to him the whole night. Her scent was still lingering there faintly, but…
The girl was nowhere to be found. Lorenzo woke up instantly, threw back the covers and got up.
“You’re awake, Mr. Fletcher. Mrs. Fletcher told me not to disturb your sleep. At first, I came to check on you in doubt. I didn’t expect her to be such a great doctor.”
Travis knocked on the door respectfully, and then Lorenzo saw his happy face.
“Where’s Mrs. Fletcher?” Lorenzo looked out of the door.
“Mrs. Fletcher said she has something important to do today, and that she’ll come back late,” Travis told the truth.
“Where did she go exactly?” Lorenzo asked.
“She didn’t tell me,” Travis replied reverently.
“You may leave now.”
Lorenzo went to the bathroom to take a shower, and saw clearly the mark left by Jessica last night in the mirror.
Who knew a tiny little girl would bite him so hard?
Rarely, Lorenzo didn’t go to the Fletcher Group but handled some business work in his study. The bell rang at 9 pm, but Jessica hadn’t come back yet.
Jessica hadn’t sent any message to him since she had left the house.
Annoyed and fretful, Lorenzo was about to put his phone aside, but at this moment, it rang, and he pressed the answer button instantly.
“Lorenzo, how can you stand us up again and again? Have you fallen in love with your new wife and started your new life as a house husband?”
House…
House husband…
“What did you say?” Lorenzo asked impatiently.
“Come on! Relax, bro! Felix has come back tonight. Let’s meet at Albert Bar!”
…
In the VIP box of Albert Bar…
Sitting on the host seat, Lorenzo puffed away on his cigar, his handsome face appearing more gloomy through the light smoke.
“Come on! It’s not that you hang out with us often, and stop smoking on your own, Lorenzo. You’ll only get more depressive if you keep smoking,” Lucian Dawson taunted.
“Lorenzo isn’t in a good mood today. Go and make him happy,” Lucian turned to a new escort, motioned to her and looked back at Lorenzo with a grin.
“I keep the best ones for you, Lorenzo. They are all new here!”
Albert Bar wasn’t some ordinary bar. Its clients were all high rollers, and it was one of the Dawson family’s businesses.
The relationships among the younger masters of the four families in Ameriart, which were the Fletcher family, the Watts family, the Dawson family and the Lloyd family, were rather solid.
The new escort blushed instantly upon hearing that. The man sitting on the host seat had a domineering and dignified aura. His handsome face was enough to let all rich ladies throw themselves at him, but he was definitely the kind to refuse them all.
“Mr. Fletcher, please have a taste of this wine.” Smiling, the new escort held the glass reverently, waiting for Lorenzo to take it.
“Get away.” Lorenzo caught a strong whiff of perfume as she leaned towards him, saying sternly with a frown.Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.
“…”
The escort didn’t expect him to be so blunt and thus got embarrassed, not knowing what to do.
“Lorenzo, are you really… gay? Granny Mrs. Fletcher stopped me from hanging out with you for that.”
Lucian winked at the escort, signaling her to leave.
“Lorenzo, it’s said that the lady who married you in place of her sister is called Jessica Armstrong,” Felix Watts, who had remained silent, finally chimed in.
Lorenzo tapped his ash into an ashtray and looked up at him.
“Maybe you’re more interested in what’s happening over there.”
Felix had a unique and vintage look. He pointed in one direction and added meaningfully.
Lorenzo looked in the direction Felix had indicated and saw a familiar figure.
It was Jessica.
Beside her stood a greasy fat man, Rocco.
“What are you guys doing here?! You’re killing our mood!”
Lucian had a very short fuse. He smashed the crystal tumbler on the table at the sight of them.
“I’ll teach these two people a lesson on behalf of Lorenzo!”
