Chapter 18

Candice went to the toilet before leaving the office. She already saw signs of her period coming earlier than expected this month.

The building’s main entrance was a terrible place to catch a taxi. Candice had to walk several hundred meters to avoid the traffic.

Alex’s car drove out from the parking lot and stopped in front of her.

The window wound down and revealed his handsome face. He simply asked, “You didn’t drive today?”

Candice paused for a moment. “It’s at the workshop, for repairs.”

Her eyes narrowed slightly. She told him yesterday that her car broke down and was sent to be fixed. It seemed like he did not listen to her at all.

“Are you going home or what?” he asked.

“Home.”

“Get in,” he said.

Candice instinctively looked at Sonia in the passenger seat.

Sonia’s smile was already stiff and her eyebrows were slightly furrowed. She gently reminded Alex, “Aren’t we going shopping? What if Candice has other things to do? Wouldn’t it be inconvenient for her?”

Alex looked at Candice. “Mind waiting?”

Candice did not mind at all, but she clearly sensed the caution in Sonia’s tone. She paused for a moment and said, “It’s okay. My friend is coming to pick me up.”

Coincidentally, her phone rang. It was a call from Jackson.

No idea why Jackson would call her in such a timely manner but she waved her phone at Alex without expressing much on her face. “He’s calling.”

Sonia then immediately turned to Alex and pouted. “Look, it’s going to be inconvenient for Candice.”

She sounded relieved/

Candice left the conversation as it was and simply walked to the side to answer the phone.

Alex’s eyes were fixated on her. It was until Sonia tugged at his sleeve that he retracted his gaze.

Sonia bit her lip and looked at Candice through the rear mirror.

Candice stood tall and straight. Her hair flowed in the wind and her delicate facial features barely showed any emotions.

It was difficult for Sonia to feel safe when Candice was around.

The girl blinked several times. She felt aggrieved and hugged Alex’s arm, saying, “Alex, are you still thinking about her?”

Alex’s emotions had faded from his eyes. He looked at Sonia and said gently, ” I’ve just been thinking since when she started seeing Jackson.”

Sonia’s arms stopped for a moment. She looked even more aggrieved as she said, “Why do you care so much?”

Alex scoffed and sneered, “I just feel bad for Jackson.”

He cheered her up before he drove the car away.

Candice heard the engine roaring behind her. She turned around and the car had driven out of her sight.

She pursed her lips. She agreed on the phone to have dinner with Jackson.

Jackson was just around the block and he was on his way to her office.

When he arrived, he had a little bag for her. “It was such a rush last night. Here’s a little something.”

Jackson had always been the caring and gentle person that he was.

Candice felt comfortable in his presence and he was one of the few friends that she could have dinner with.

Therefore, it would make the request she was about to ask sound unreasonable.

Candice was in a dilemma about whether to ask Jackson.

It was he who saw her unusual expression and asked out of concern, “Is there something wrong?”

Candice looked down. “It’s nothing. I can handle it myself.”

Jackson hummed. He then smiled and asked, “You looked like you could use some help, maybe try telling me what’s going on?”

A little pause later, he added, with a sense of probing, “Is it about Alex and his This content © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.

Everyone within Alex’s circle knew about his new flame but Alex never really publicly admitted their relationship, so no one really talked about it.

Jackson realized he was stepping out of line. Right before he could say the next word, he heard Candice saying, trying to sound as calm as possible, “Can you be my boyfriend?”
