Chapter 11

Alex’s sentence had multiple meanings to it.

Was he implying that Candice should by now be bored of the bracelet, or was he hinting at himself getting bored with Candice?

It was ambiguous.

After the party, Daniel and Helen saw the guests off at the gate.

Alex spotted Candice’s car. “I’m busy. You can go home on your own.”

Candice drove herself here anyway, so it was fine for her to part ways with Alex. She pursed her lips and asked, “Going to Sonia’s place?”

Alex nodded and looked at his phone. “She’s having her period and wants to eat cake.”

Candice said, “You really care about her.”

Alex raised his brows and glanced at her. “I treat you well too.”

He did and it was the truth. In the past eight years, Alex had treated Candice well and was generous with her.

Candice nodded without refuting. She then nodded again, this time at Daniel before she drove back to her place.

The next day at work when Candice saw Sonia, there was a diamond necklace on the girl’s neck.

Candice noticed the necklace was the latest design of the brand that Alex liked.

During lunch, Candice went to the pantry to refill her water bottle and she overheard a conversation at the entrance.

Sonia’s meek and adorable voice stood out. “C’mon guys, stop joking around. People can hear us. Besides…”

Her voice suddenly had a hint of bitterness to it and she sounded conflicted. “If Candice knows about this, she’d get mad, wouldn’t she?”

The other girls stopped teasing her when she mentioned Candice.

Candice indeed had a good reputation throughout the company.

She waited at the pantry’s entrance for a while and decided to go downstairs to buy coffee instead.

After lunch, the Project Department delivered the document that Candice asked for.

As she went through it, her brows furrowed. She slammed the document shut and gave it back. “It’s too messy. Do it again.”

The department manager explained, “I got the form and data from the Secretary’s Office.”

Sonia overheard the conversation and her face turned pale. She lowered her head and said meekly, “Candice, I did the compiling.”

Candice frowned. She scolded, “You are still an intern, you are not qualified to compile such complicated data yet.”

Sonia snorted. “I’m sorry, Candice.”

There were a lot of corrections required and the Project Department refused to handle it, so Candice had to do it on her own.

Sonia sat at her desk for the entire afternoon and worked on her calibration task.

Later that evening, Alex came out of his office and stood in front of Candice. He knocked on her desk and said, “Sonia is working under me starting tomorrow. Reassign her.”

Candice heard the man and turned to Sonia, who was looking at the contract on her desk and did not seem to hear Alex.

However, the girl bit her lips tightly and her lower jaw was contracted, looking awfully nervous.

Candice pulled her gaze back to Alex. “Give me a reason.” NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.

“You are not suitable for guiding new hires. She can’t learn anything from you,” he said blankly.

Candice stared at the man. “You’re the one who told me to lead her in the first place.”

Alex was not angry but he sounded stern when he said, “I know, so I’m taking my words back.”

The news of Candice targeting Sonia and Alex taking Sonia’s side spread across the company.

When Candice got off work, she could feel the different gazes from her co- workers, but she simply turned a blind eye.

Dorrington was a rainy city, even more so when it was summer.

On the way home, Candice stopped by the gas station for a refuel but when she was done, it was already raining cats and dogs.

She drove in the storm.

When she arrived at her home, the door was open and Alex was inside.
