My Love Until the Last Goodbye (Mary and Maximus)

Chapter 0826

As I stepped out of my room, I was immediately greeted by the loud, unmistakable laughter of Aurora. God, that woman still got on my nerves... And to think that at one point, Mary had actually suggested that she and I could be a couple. According to her, since we were both wild, chaotic, and loved partying, we were perfectly compatible. Just thinking about it sent shivers down my spine.

When I reached the dining room, I was struck by how much smaller it seemed compared to my memories. Today, it was packed.

Mary, Aurora, and Celeste were seated together, along with a few other girls whose faces I barely recognized. But it was obvious-Celeste was the baby of the group.

As much as Aurora annoyed me, I had to admit she had always been a good friend to Mary.

While searching for Mary after my supposed death, I had learned that Aurora never stopped looking for her. She had even turned to Lawson for help, but under Marcus's orders, he had never given her any clues about where Mary was.

I also found out that, for years, Aurora had visited Agnes and taken care of her at least until my grumpy old housekeeper passed away.

Now, as I stood here looking at all these women around the table, I found it ironic. My youth had been filled with elegant, high-society women, and now-on what I assumed was the day of my death-my dining room was full of loud, laughing young women, teasing and joking with each other.

Even Mary and Celeste were laughing in a way I had never seen before.

The moment they noticed me, the chatter died down.

Mary got up, walked over, and poured me a cup of coffee. She smiled at me before pressing a kiss to my lips.

That was strange. Normally, I felt a rush whenever she kissed me, a little spark. But this time, all I could think about was the fact that Celeste was sitting right there, watching.

I'm losing my mind.

That girl had no idea what the future held, and yet, I still felt wrong.

I forced a smile back at Mary, and she took her seat beside me. Breakfast carried on as usual-Aurora and I, as always, exchanged sarcastic remarks and took jabs at each other, our conversations full of dry, dark humor.

When we finished eating, Mary helped Agnes clear the table. Strangely enough, this was the first time I had ever seen her allow anyone to help her.

I took the opportunity to talk to Aurora.

She was heading toward the guest room when I stopped her. She nearly dropped dead from shock when I asked to speak with her.

My expression must have been serious because, for once, she didn't argue.

"What do you want, Peter? Wasn't breakfast enough for you?" she asked, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

"Aurora... I want to talk to you. Seriously."

"Why?" she responded, her tone shifting slightly.

I knew I had caught her off guard. But as much as I hated to admit it, Mary had good instincts when it came to choosing her friends Aurora could be a valuable ally if I wasn't around. noveldrama

We walked toward the edge of the garden. I stared at the horizon, taking in the endless view of the sea. Closing my eyes, I breathed in the salty ocean air, letting it fill my lungs.

"Aurora! I'm being serious."

She looked at me, studying my face. I could tell she was searching for a hint of sarcasm-but she found

none.

And then, as if she had figured something out, she asked:

"Peter... You're not going to die, are you?"

"Not as soon as you, if you don't shut up and listen."

"Alright, alright... Just say it."

"I had a strange dream last night, and it left me with a bad feeling."

"What did you dream?"

"That I died."

Aurora rolled her eyes. "Peter, I never pegged you for one of those people..."

"What people?"

"The kind that believes in superstitious nonsense."

"I don't. But I have Mary-and she's pregnant. Don't you think that gives me a reason to worry?"
