Chapter 100 Settled
Upon ending the call, she made a call to Amanda to get her to deal with the matter with Gold River
Hotel. After all, someone like Merrick was not worthy enough to speak to her.
After that, she went to deal with Douglas’ family’s shop. Centurion Corporation’s information network
was fearsome. In mere minutes, Diane received information about how Douglas’ family’s business was
selling high-quality counterfeits.
Immediately, she called her trusted subordinates and ordered them to deal with that at once.
Right as Christopher returned to the room, he saw Merrick running toward the VIP room. Seeing that,
he figured Diane must have made the call.
At that moment, Merrick was aghast. Just two minutes ago, he had received a call from the secretary of
the general manager of Centurion Corporation.
Amanda had told Merrick that one of her friends was in the VIP room, and she had asked him to close
his eyes to the situation. As for the compensation for the antique painting, she had told him that they
would discuss it later.
Merrick was dumbfounded. Hello? That’s the secretary of the general manager of Centurion
Corporation! I have to make an appointment in advance if I want to meet her!
There was no way he would dare to even ask for compensation anymore. Moreover, Amanda had even
asked him to keep the call a secret and come up with some other kind of excuse.
Merrick was stunned that Amanda had a friend in the room. He was immensely glad that he had not
laid a finger on anyone earlier. If he did, there was no way he was going to keep surviving in
Jadeborough.
When he thought about that, cold sweat drenched his back.
In the VIP room, when Fabian, Frank, and the others who were waiting for Christopher and Douglas
saw Merrick returning, they panicked. Frank uttered in a rush, “Mr. Songsmith, it hasn’t been half an
hour! We’re still thinking of a way!”
“I’ve already looked into the matter, and I’ve realized that you’re not to blame for this. It’s probably
because the case is loose. My apologies for interrupting your meal. Your dinner’s on me.”
Once he was done with his speech, Merrick bowed to them, confusing them all.
Not only were the Murrays shocked, but even Owen and the few towering men were confounded.
What’s going on with our boss? That’s his favorite painting that costs seven to eight million. Is he really
just letting the matter go like this? This is too strange!
Merrick instantly led Owen and his other men away from the VIP room. The remaining people in the
room could only blink in a daze as they watched Merrick and his company leave. They still had no idea
what had just happened.
However, they were definitely not going to believe in Merrick’s excuse. It was far too ridiculous.
How could he possibly give up on seven to eight million?
Julianna’s heart skipped a beat when she saw Christopher return. Could it be that Christopher called
Mr. Santos? He knows him and Mr. Synder after all.
Right as Julianna was about to ask Christopher about it, Scarlett abruptly smacked her head and said,
“My boyfriend must have called his father! His father is on good terms with Mr. Songsmith, so Mr.
Songsmith must have let the matter go.”
Christopher rolled his eyes inwardly when he heard that. Merrick didn’t even care about letting Douglas
keep his dignity, so what makes you think that he’ll do this for Douglas’ father?
However, the rest of the confused people found sense in Scarlett’s words. Fabian immediately hummed
in approval before saying, “Scarlett, hurry up and call Douglas. Ask him to come back and tell him that
it’s settled.”
“Okay.” Scarlett then called Douglas. Once Douglas received the call, he instantly said, “I call my dad
earlier, and he told me that he’ll try his best. But I’m not sure about the results.” Content © NôvelDrama.Org.
“You’re amazing, Douglas! Mr. Songsmith came into the room and said that he would not hold us
accountable for the painting anymore. He even said that he would treat us to the meal. Your dad must
have called Mr. Songsmith!” Scarlett replied enthusiastically.
Douglas gasped inwardly. He did not call his father at all.
Why isn’t Merrick holding us accountable for this anymore? Did someone make a call?
Nevertheless, Douglas knew for sure that the Murrays were not the ones who made the call.
Of course, he did not care about the misunderstanding. If everyone thought that he was the one who
called, then he was the one who did that.
With that thought in mind, Douglas hurried back to the private room. The moment he stepped into the
room, Scarlett dashed over to hug his arm and peck him on the cheek. Even Fabian was smiling as he
praised, “Douglas, you’re young, but you’re so capable. You’re so much better than those people who
only know how to run from their responsibilities.”
Evidently, the one Fabian was talking about was Christopher.
In an instant, Frank’s and Cindy’s faces reddened. After all, their son-in-law was worlds apart from their
relatives’ daughter’s boyfriend.
Unlike the others, Julianna was doubtful. She sensed that something was amiss about the resolution of
the matter.
“This is all thanks to my father. I don’t deserve the compliment,” Douglas said with a smile.
Hearing that, Christopher sneered, He’s very good at taking credit for someone else’s work. Still, it
doesn’t matter. I’d like to see what expression he’ll be having soon. After all, his family’s doomed.
