Chapter 29.
Chapter 29.
The next day, I wake up from the loud ticking sound of the clock.
I groan loudly, cussing at the clock for having to be so loud. I try to get up in a sitting position,
supporting my weight with my elbow, only to realize that they're met with a cold hard surface.
I suddenly realize I've been sleeping on the damned floor.
My vision soon comes into focus when I find my glasses using a hand as I take in the state of the room.
The king-sized bed which has been standing so elegantly in the room is now crumpled to the floor. One
side of the headboard is hanging to the left, threatening to fall while making a slight squeaky sound.
Everything comes flooding back to me, hitting me so hard like a ton of bricks that I collapse back to the
floor.
I remembered how good he made me feel, how soft his hands were when they roamed all over my
body, how he kissed me till my lips felt numb. A slight blush forms on my cheeks as I recall how
perfectly our bodies molded with each other. We woke up later that night, craving more, not getting
enough of ourselves. At one point, we lost count of the times we did it. He was on top of me, then I
was, then he was again. I often found my hands roaming against his body when he moved over me.
His body— is a work of art.
I grip the sheets right against my body, suddenly feeling embarrassed about last night.
Things were not supposed to get to this according to what I had planned in mind but when his lips met
mine, I lost all twenty-five years of home training. This is property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
I lost control of myself when he kissed me good like I was experiencing my first kiss all over again.
I seriously need someone to talk to, I can't contain this feeling all by myself.
I glance over to my side and smile when I see Maverick sprawled beside me, the sheets covering the
lower half of him. His lips are parted slightly open as a slight snore escapes from them. I creepily watch
him sleep, watching as his chest heaves up and down in a slow and steady manner. His quiet breathing
continues and I observe his stunning face.
His thick black lashes are longer than mine and his face is as smooth as a day old's baby bottom, a
straight nose, high cheekbones, and those lips that could make me go mental. The best part? The best
part is his eyes. Eyes so green, eyes so soft that it's almost impossible not to get lost in them.
I don't want to pry him out of his sleep so I discard the sheets and put on just one layer of my
nightdress and tiptoe out of the room. I make my way to the kitchen where I had left my phone last
night and dial Jim's number.
"Mae had the most amazing time last night..."
~~~~~~~~~
I order two cups of Caffeinated coffee for Jim and I, and then take our usual spot by the window.
I feel a lot better now that I've had a shower and put on some clothes. But I still have his body scent on
me no matter how long I stayed in the bathroom. I try to cover up the hickeys with a concealer as my
hair's already too short to do the job.
Jim was already on his way to the office and decided to drop by to have morning coffee with me while
he listens to what happened to Mae last night.
I nudge the coffee in front of him as he picks it up to take a long sip. "Alright, spill."
"I had sex with Maverick last night." It takes him a while to digest the information and when he does, his
eyes widen like the size of saucepans.
"YOU FUCKED?!" He says that loud enough for people to turn around to glare at us.
"Jesus Christ, why don't you shout it out louder for people at the back to hear you." I shoot daggers at
him with my eyes.
"No, it just came as a shock you know. It was just the other day I was forcing you to live with him and
now he's going all Christian Grey on your butt."
"Can you just let me talk?" I press a hand to my forehead.
"Did you get blindfolded? Like the BDSM shit?"
"Holy Cow in a mini skirt!" I exclaim.
"What about the back door? Did he go through the back door?"
"Jim, if you could just shut up for a minute..."
He throws his hands up in surrender. "Fine, fine. I'm listening."
So I tell him. I tell him about the first day we almost kissed at the gym and then down to how we finally
kissed at the party yesterday in front of so many people including Tony. I couldn't leave the Tony part
out. I tell him about how facing him last night terrified me and then one thing led to the other, we ended
up thrashing his bed.
"Wow, that was... something," He says after listening to the whole thing. "So what are you going to do
now? It's clear he wants more than just to fuck you."
"I'm going to go for it," I say without a breath. "There's no harm in trying. Other than that, he does make
my heart go kaboom."
"That's a really lame way of saying you have feelings for him."
"But you get what I mean," I roll my eyes.
"Well, I have news too," Jim reaches out for his pockets and brings out a black little box, placing it
between us on the table. "Open it."
So I do. There's a shiny silver engagement ring in it. So beautiful and shiny that I almost get blinded by
the brightness. "You're proposing?" I smile up at him.
"Yeah, when she comes back next month. Do you think she would like it?" He scratches the back of his
head with uncertainty.
"Jim it's perfect. This is a very bold step you're taking and I'm happy for you."
"I feel like I should've done this a long time ago. She keeps giving me signs and talking about baby
names. She already named her first child Aria." Jim never talks about his love life to me, so him saying
this must be very important to him, I can see it in his features. "It took me over a year to realize
Jacquline's the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with. I'm dumb as fuck."
I laugh, thinking about if I still see Maverick with me in thirty years to come.
"I'm glad you finally made up your mind and become a man about it."
"Off to work I go," He immediately changes the topic and picks up his bag. "Apparently, I have a case
this morning where this dead businesswoman Willed all her properties to her cat and now her children
want what's rightfully theirs."
"A cat?" I frown at the whole thing.
"I know right," He groans. "Now I have to settle things between her children and a cat. This work is
stupid."
"Have fun," I call out after him as he walks out of the store, pondering over what he'd just told me.
A cat?
