Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 622

Everett fell silent, his gaze a tumult of unsaid words as he looked at her. It was like he had a storm brewing inside, yet nothing could escape his lips.

Selena wasn't surprised, but her heart felt like it was breaking all over again. They'd been married for six years, and the first three were a never-ending cycle of disappointment, leaving her emotionally battered. She had vowed never to let herself go through that pain again. He simply wasn't worth it.

When they crossed paths three years later, he clung to her like a stubborn weed, refusing to let go, slowly pulling her back into his life. She compromised then, for the sake of their child. But it was never enough for him. He wanted her heart, not just her presence.

He acted like a lovestruck teenager, showering her with affection, doing all those things she had once longed for. Maybe that's just how it goes with women-always a bit too tender-hearted towards the men they once loved.

His persistence rekindled a small ember of what she thought was long gone. She dared to hope, even if just for a moment, that maybe they could grow old together. But she realized she had overestimated herself and how much Everett cared about their relationship.

There's a saying that hits the nail on the head: You can love the wrong person a few times, but you can't keep loving the same wrong person repeatedly. Making a wrong choice might be just bad luck, but falling into the same trap over and over? That's on you.

Thankfully, her feelings for him had dimmed, and she wasn't as deeply caught up as before. Luckily, this visit was her chance to cut her losses.

Selena gently pushed him away, her voice calm and steady. "Everett, you've never truly chosen me." "That's what hurts the most."

First it was Margot, now it's Yasmine, and who knows who's next... He always had his reasons, his excuses.

"Selena, it's not like that," Everett

pleaded, knowing if she walked

away now, she'd be gonenoveldrama

He pulled her back, kissing her desperately, his voice low and

frantic. "Selena, just give me some time. I promise I'll sort everything out!"

"I promise, I won't let anyone come between us again."

Promise? Selena looked at him with a flat gaze. "Everett, I'm not a naive girl anymore. A man's promise

means nothing to me now. Your words, true or not, are meaningless to me."

"You say your heart is with me, but you keep others close. I can't keep going through this!" She swallowed hard.

"Either come with me right now-don't give me any work excuses, you can find someone else to handle things or sort out your issues and come back to Newport for our divorce."

She figured she'd made herself pretty clear. The ball was in his court now.

Selena pushed Everett away, grabbed her suitcase, and stepped decisively into the elevator without a second thought. As the doors began to close, she glanced up to see Everett still standing there, motionless, just watching her.

As the elevator doors were about to shut completely, Selena's hand instinctively pressed the open button. But until the doors finally closed, he never moved towards her, never said, "I'll go with you."

The elevator descended, and Selena

tightened her grip on the suitcase handle, tears threatening to spill from her eyes. Her cab was already waiting at the entrance. The

elet

doorman placed her luggage in the trunk and opened the car door for her.

This time, Selena didn't hesitate for a second. She got into the car, and with a thud, the door closed behind her.

As the elevator doors sealed shut,

cutting off their view of each other, Everett finally snapped out of his haze. He rushed forward, frantically pressing the elevator button. Another elevator arrived slowly and he hurried in, his reflection in the mirror showing his anxious, troubled expression, brow furrowed, his handsome face etched with worry.
