Chapter 45
This answer took Selena by surprise, and she couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. In their social circle, men were quite particular about choosing a partner. It wasn't just about family background, looks, and figure they also wanted someone who was gentle, obedient, and composed the kind of woman who could shine in public but was easy to manage, ensuring no drama regardless of their own escapades. "Why are you looking at me like that? Do I have something on my face?" Callum's voice broke Selena's train of thought. She realized she'd been staring and smiled. "No, nothing. It's just... what you've got going on is quite nice."
A little mutual admiration never hurt anyone.
Callum smiled a little. After a moment, he added, "I know a gem collector called Mr. Morrison with some unique and rare pieces. If you're interested, I can introduce you."
See? This is exactly what they mean by "every cloud has a silver lining."
Selena's eyes lit up with excitement, and she nodded. "You're a lifesaver. I could really use that. So please, do make the introduction."
Callum chuckled. "No need to thank me. I'll give him a call."
He pulled out his phone and made the call. After hanging up, he turned to Selena, hesitating a bit. "Selena, Mr. Morrison is leaving the country tomorrow for an exhibition, and he won't be back anytime soon. If you want to choose a gift, it has to be today, but... he lives quite far away. Would that be okay?"This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
"Of course," Selena replied without a second thought. The distance was nothing when it came to finding the perfect apology gift.
"Alright then, let's take my car."
Callum drove over to Selena, and she hopped into the passenger seat as they merged into the traffic.
...
Later that night.
Everett drove back to Moon Bay. As he got out of the car, he instinctively glanced up at the second-floor master bedroom, noting it was still dark. He frowned slightly and headed inside.
Ava greeted him with a smile, "Sir, you're back."
Everett took off his shoes and coat, asking, "Where's Selena?"
"She hasn't returned yet," Ava replied honestly. She had received a call earlier in the day from him, saying Selena would be moving back and to prepare dinner, but she hadn't shown up.
Everett paused mid-pull on his tie. "She's not back yet?"
His voice was calm, but Ava felt a chill run down her spine. The couple had been at odds for a while, and his mood was noticeably tense. She hoped the missus would return
soon, or else she feared she couldn't handle the atmosphere.
She thought for a moment and cautiously suggested, "Maybe something came up? Sir, perhaps you should give her a call?"
Without saying a word, Everett climbed the stairs with a stony expression. Once in the room, he tossed his tie onto the bed, checked the time, and dialed Selena's number.
An automated voice greeted him. "The number you have dialed is not in service..."
Everett's expression darkened immediately. Was he blocked again? Was she planning on cutting ties after he helped her?
He found Selena's contact, and sent a message.
[Selena, do you know what time it is? Where are you?]
[You said you'd move back today. I expect to see you within the hour!]
[Selena, don't push my patience. You won't like what happens next!]
But his messages seemed to vanish into thin air, with no response at all.
Selena had thought Callum's mention of a "bit far" meant somewhere in the suburbs. She never imagined they would be headed to the next city. After four hours on the highway, they finally arrived in the evening.
Thankfully, Callum hadn't steered her wrong. Mr. Morrison had several exquisite pendants, each of exquisite quality, rivaling those at the Gallery.
