Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 213

Everett looked at her with those dark eyes of his, sharp as ever, like he could see right through her.

She just stood there, expressionless, her gaze calm like a still pond, as if nothing could ruffle her anymore. The playful spark he used to adore in her was nowhere to be found. Everett felt a flicker of irritation. He clicked his tongue, letting his words slice through the air. "Selena, would you really rather sell yourself than be the respectable Mrs. Bennett?" Selena's thick lashes fluttered slightly.

There was bitterness in her heart, but she didn't let it show. Her response was as steady as ever, "Yes."

A solid yes!

Everett's hand gripped her slim neck, his voice turning sharp. "Then you're overvaluing yourself. With five hundred million, I can have any woman I want."

And that was the truth.

Selena looked up at him, her features deep and defined. He had the lips gossip magazines once dubbed the most kissable. At 6'2", Everett's proportions were just right, with a perfect waist, hips, and impossibly long legs, not to mention other... impressive traits. Everett was a walking magnet for women.

Hadn't she been that naive girl for falling head over heels for him?

Selena let out a self-deprecating chuckle. She didn't bite back and just asked coolly, "So, are you buying?"

Everett's brows knitted, but before he could reply, Selena's phone rang. This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.

She pulled it out, noticing Dr. Campbell's name on the screen, and moved to answer.

Everett caught sight of it, and his temper flared. Snatching the phone away, he said with a mocking edge, "You wanted me to pay up, right? Go take a shower!"

Selena's brow furrowed slightly, but she kept quiet and headed to the bathroom.

The sound of running water filled the room.

Feeling restless, Everett yanked off his tie and undid a few buttons of his shirt. The phone was still ringing insistently.

He stared at it for several seconds, then let out a cold laugh.

He walked over to the window and opened it, letting the cool breeze in, though it did nothing to cool his temper.

He lit a cigarette, took a long drag, and finally hit the answer button, bringing the phone to his ear.

Callum's worried voice came through, "Selena, I saw the news. Is everything okay at home? Did you drop by this afternoon? My assistant said she saw you."

He'd been in surgery and only heard about it afterward.

Everett sneered, lazily replying, "My wife's issues are mine to handle. No need for an outsider to fret."

There was a stunned silence on the other end. Callum was not expecting Everett to pick up.

Everett scoffed, ready to hang up, when Callum's voice came back, "Everett, Selena and I are friends. It's normal for me to be concerned if she's in trouble. She's a great girl. You've married her, so I hope you treat her well..."

"Callum Campbell!" Everett cut him off, using his full name with an icy tone. He warned him, "How I deal with my wife is our business You're overstepping."

Just then, Selena walked out of the bathroom, wrapped snugly in a robe. The steam made her skin look soft and fresh, like a young, untouched girl, not a married woman.
