Chapter 3 Taking Full Responsibility
"Mommy, my sister and I are both fine," Gregory said calmly. Deanna was relieved. Luckily, the kids were okay. It seemed the other driver had braked in time, which made her breathe a sigh of relief.
"Sweetie, Mommy is going to get out and see what happened. You two stay in the car and behave," she instructed. She then unbuckled her seatbelt, opened the door, and got out.
The driver of the car behind also got out at this moment, checked the condition of his car, and his face showed a hint of anger. When he saw Deanna, he asked, "How did you drive? Everything was fine, and then you suddenly stopped on the road!"
"I'm really sorry, it seems like my car broke down," Deanna apologized sincerely, knowing it was her fault, and she glanced back at her car, which had a large dent in the rear, then looked at the other driver's car.
Her face instantly turned pale. She recognized the car in front of her as a Maybach, and it was a limited edition, worth at least forty million. Deanna was well aware that the responsibility for this accident lay with her, and she would have to bear the compensation. Text © by N0ve/lDrama.Org.
The thought of having to pay so much money made her heart sink. Over the past two years, the family had been struggling financially due to her grandmother's illness. They had no savings, and without insurance, where would she find so much money?
Lost in thought, Deanna started sweating. She apologized again, bowing deeply, "I'm very sorry, I'm so sorry!"
She had no other choice but to keep apologizing.
The driver stood with his hands on his hips, breathing heavily. He frowned and glanced at her, saying, "Just apologizing won't help. I was driving normally. You are mainly responsible for this. Let's talk about compensation when the traffic police and the insurance company arrive."
Upon hearing this, Deanna couldn't help but panic! She rubbed her hands nervously, looking embarrassed, and said softly, "I... I don't have that much money."
The driver frowned, staring at the woman in front of him, and scrutinized her. "Are you trying to dodge your responsibility?" he asked.
Deanna shook her head, "No, that's not what I meant."
At this moment, the two kids got out of the car. Hearing that they might have to pay a lot of money and knowing the family's difficulties, they were worried. They both called out, "Mommy."
The two little ones walked over to Deanna, holding onto her clothes tightly, their eyes showing unease.
Deanna comforted them by patting their little heads and then looked up at the driver, asking softly, "Sir, I didn't mean to evade responsibility. I admit fault, but could we possibly work something out? I... really can't come up with that much money all at once."
She bit her lip, stating her position first, then explaining her difficulties, and finally suggesting a solution. "How about leaving a contact number and we can pay in installments?"
Upon hearing this, the driver frowned even more.
Seeing this, the two kids helped their mother plead, "Mister, we really don't have that much money. Please give us time to gather money. We will keep our word."
Chloe even clasped her hands together, pleading, "Please, please."
The driver softened a bit at the sight of the two children, his expression softening. He was no longer as stern, but he couldn't make the decision. He could only say, "Wait here."
With that, he turned and went to the back seat, bending down to knock on the window.
The window slowly rolled down.
The driver spoke respectfully, asking, "Mr. Mercer... how should we handle this matter?"
