Chapter 22
Sophia glanced at the time. “She should be back soon. Knowing her, she wouldn’t let herself go hungry.”
Scarlett was familiar with Cindy’s habits too. “True”
“Ms. Miller, you should eat first,” Sophia said while gently guiding her toward the dining room.
In the luxurious dining room, Scarlett sat down and glanced at the braised beef on the table. It reminded her of how this was Derick’s favorite dish as well.
Her hand paused momentarily as she picked up her utensils. Why was she thinking about that heartless man again?
She took a deep breath, wondering how long it would take before she could finally forget him.
Her long eyelashes cast shadows over her eyes, hiding the turbulent emotions within.
Scarlett took a bite of the beef and savored the rich flavor that satisfied her tastebuds.
Sophia’s meals were always well–balanced and nutritious. Just as Scarlett finished eating, Cindy rushed into the hall with quick steps. Her voice was loud and animated. “Boss, I went to the police station. Melanie refused to say anything. She insisted that she acted alone. She even had the nerve to say she was disappointed that her attempt to frame you didn’t succeed.
“I mean, the audacity of Melanie! Framing someone and acting so righteous about it. She’s something else.”
Scarlett’s thoughts wandered. Melanie’s stubbornness suggested there was more to the story.
“Boss, here’s everything on Melanie. She has a mother and a younger brother. The brother has kidney failure and is currently in the hospital receiving treatment.”
“Oh,” Scarlett replied as she took the file and flipped through it briefly.
She closed the folder and asked, “Did you visit the hospital?”
“I did. I heard they found a donor and the money was already gathered just yesterday, someone transferred a million dollars to Melanie’s account.
Cindy pounded the table with her fist “Boss, something’s definitelyfishy here.”
“Indeed,” Scarlett said as her eyes narrowed in thought. “It’s quite a coincidence that right after she tries to frame me, someone suddenly comes to her rescue with money. Yet she repays my kindness with betrayal.”
Her gaze turned contemplative. “On, keep digging tomorrow. Find out who gave her the money. If we can’t uncover the truth, tell Melanie we’ll use her brother as leverage if she doesn’t reveal who’s behind this.”
Scarlett had never been one to show mercy. She believed in fighting fire with fire.
Cindy grinned. Her excitement was barely contained. This was the kind of life she thrived on, with dece and manipulations met with equal cunning.
“Got it, boss. I’ll handle it. If the soft approach doesn’t work, we’ll go hard on her. One way or another, we’ll findout who’s polling the strings. She thinks her sharp tongue can hart people, but our methods are way sharper.”
Cindy’s smile was as sly as a fox’s.
Scarlett chuckled softly. It was always lively when Cindy was around
At 8:00pm, they arrived at the Totoo Grand Hotel By then, guests were already trickling in…
As they reached the opulent hall, Cindy suddenly felt a sharp pain in her stomach and needed to rush to the restroom. Scarlett told her to go ahead and decided to wait in the hall Tonight’s event hosted a thousand representatives from various business enterprises, many of them distinguished entrepreneurs from across the country
Scarlett had already selected Live projects to focus on, and her main purpose tonight was just to make an appearance. Liam was handling the rest. This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
Just as Scarlett was about to find a place to sit, she turned around and saw Derick and Eliza. The two were dressed in matching, extravagant outfits, walking intimately together The sight hit her like a punch to the gut, causing a sharp pain in her chest. She quickly averted her gaze while her back tensed.
Eliza hadn’t expected to see Scarlet here. What right did she have to attend an event like this? This was an exclusive gathering for top–tier entrepreneurs, and even thra herself ked only gotten in thanks in Derick..
“Ms Miller, what are you doing here?” Eliza couldn’t help but ask.
