Chapter 38
Chapter 38
“I’m a reporter, and any reporter would like gossip,” Margaret said slyly as she blinked.
“But you’re a reporter who reports social news, not entertainment,” Jacob reminded. As such, he wouldn’t answer any questions about Gideon’s personal life.
However, Jacob suddenly felt that Margaret was indeed a good match for Gideon. There wasn’t any reason, but he felt that Gideon and Margaret were very similar in some aspects, so he thought Margaret and Gideon would get along very well.
“It doesn’t matter what kind of news I report. Most importantly, everyone likes gossip, right? Aren’t you curious about Mr. Compton’s personal life?” Margaret coaxed.
“I’m not curious.” The consequence of being curious was more serious, so Jacob had opted for a way that could keep himself safe.
Jacob didn’t reveal anything. Although Margaret had tried all kinds of methods to get some information from Jacob, her effort was to no
avail.
Feeling resentful, Margaret forked the cake forcefully and ate the last bite on the plate.
Perhaps the air–conditioner in the café was too powerful, at that moment, Jacob shivered. Jacob had been serving Gideon carefully every day. Now that he also had to face Margaret, he could already imagine how miserable his life would be in the future. Exclusive content from NôvelDrama.Org.
Jacob knew that Gideon certainly wanted to have lunch with Margaret, so he deliberately sent her back before the lunchbreak.
When Margaret walked into the office again, Gideon was on the phone. He stood by the window, looking slightly displeased. Margaret sensed it and nestled on the couch without bothering Gideon.
After hanging up the phone, Gideon walked to the couch. He was still in a bad mood, but a smile crept across his face when he faced Margaret. “What do you want to eat for lunch? Do you want to eat out or order takeout?”
“Anything,” replied Margaret.
“Then I’ll ask Jacob to order it. Do you have any food that you crave?” Gideon asked.
“No. Anything will do,” Margaret replied in a slightly cold manner.
It would be strange if Gideon didn’t notice how different her attitude was compared to before. Before Margaret left, he felt that Margaret was moved by his words and that she had started considering if he was speaking the truth.
However, Roxanne had come in at the wrong time. Gideon had only made Margaret open up to him, but Roxanne’s appearance ruined everything. Margaret even refused to share more of her feelings.
Gideon was extremely anxious, yet he didn’t say much. Love wasn’t something that could be rushed. Smiling, Gideon rubbed Margaret’s head and returned to the desk without saying a word.
Margaret didn’t expect that Gideon would have someone order aglio olio pasta. Surprised, she looked up at Gideon and wondered, ‘Is this a coincidence? Or does he still remember?‘
“I don’t know if you like the taste. Have a bite. But it surely doesn’t taste like the one your mom made.” Gideon handed the fork to Margaret.
The second year after Margaret got together with Gideon, on her birthday, Gideon asked if she wanted anything. She had told him that she wanted aglio olio pasta made by her mother, but she would never have the chance to eat it anymore. Margaret hadn’t expected that Gideon would keep that in mind until now.

Margaret hated it when Gideon did that, thinking that he was cheating. He was destroying her conviction because of his attentive actions and how she used to trust and depend on him. Before this, she was so
rtain that it was impossible for her and Gideon to be together again.
After taking the fork, Margaret lowered her head and began eating the pasta. Gideon watched her as she ate with her head hung low. He was unsure if he had done the right thing, but he didn’t intend to make Margaret unhappy.
To make Margaret feel at ease, Gideon moved to a small conference room for the afternoon meeting so that Margaret could do whatever she wanted in the office.
Of course, Gideon shamelessly switched on the surveillance system in his office before he left. The system was originally installed to guard against certain people and would only be switched on after Gideon got off work. This was the first time Gideon had switched it on for personal use.
The people were speaking eloquently, hoping that their ideas could be appreciated and acknowledged by Gideon. However, Gideon didn’t pay attention to them. Instead, he was looking down at the phone screen.
After Gideon left, Margaret took a small blanket from her bag and put it over her lap. It seemed that she was ready to sleep. She put on her headphones. The music seemed to be good, or else Gideon wouldn’t have seen the smile on her face.
If it weren’t for the knock on the door, Margaret would soon fall asleep with a sweet smile.
When Bianca appeared on the phone screen, Gideon frowned. His expression changed so swiftly that the planning department’s staff, who was speaking, instantly tensed up and wondered if he had said something wrong that infuriated Gideon.
The more the staff panicked, the more mistakes he made. He had made several mistakes, and he broke out in a cold sweat. Just when he was
thinking about how to make up for these mistakes, Gideon’s expression became more serious. The staff could only bite the bullet and
continue, reminding himself not to make any more mistakes.
With two documents in her arms, Bianca knocked on the door. Without bothering if the person in the office allowed her to enter, she pushed open the door directly. She only dared to go to the office after knowing that Gideon wasn’t around.
She thought Roxanne must have some skills to be Gideon’s fiancée all this while. Bianca had pinned all her hopes on Roxanne, thinking that Roxanne would look into Margaret’s background and then chase her out.
Bianca didn’t care about Margaret’s identity. She only knew that Margaret was a great threat, for Margaret could use the designated elevator
for the CEO.
Since Roxanne had failed to drive Margaret out, Bianca would have to take matters into her own hands. Before entering Gideon’s office, Bianca adjusted her clothes, revealing the parts of her body that she was proud of.
Margaret sat up from the couch in a daze and asked, “Who are you?”
Bianca looked at Margaret’s outfits and immediately flashed an arrogant and despising look, thinking that Margaret dressed casually and didn’t have a nice figure. Bianca was confident that she was much better than Margaret.
“I’m Mr. Compton’s secretary, and I’m here to send him documents,” Bianca stated a higher status and identity.
Those who knew Gideon would know he didn’t have a secretarial team, but only three assistants, whom he had full trust in.
When Gideon first joined the company, his two older sisters had prepared a secretarial team for him. There were eight people in total. All of them were beautiful women with tanned skin, but they were all foolish. Gideon knew the intentions of his sisters. They were hoping that he would be bewitched by the women and that he couldn’t focus on his work.
Unfortunately, they had underestimated Gideon. At first, Gideon couldn’t do anything to the secretarial team, but as he began to show his capability at work, the board members/noticed that he often had to handle a few tasks on his own, and his secretaries were only applying
