Chapter 617
Chapter 617 The Next Plan
"Mate, don't do this to me," I whispered, desperation lacing my voice.
For a moment, hope flickered in my chest as I saw the yearning in her eyes. I was certain there was love for me too. But before I could even hold on to that hope, the high priestess raised her moonstaff, directing a beam of light straight at me. The last thing I heard before everything went dark was my mate's soft and regretful voice whispering, "I'm sorry."
Then, in the blink of an eye, I was gone, pulled from the lunar realm, and transported to my Moonglow pack. She betrayed me. Tricked me into being sent back-so she could marry some god?! No. She was my mate and mine alone. I wouldn't stop until I made her realize there was no escaping me.
"Alpha!" Maddox's voice snapped me back to reality. I turned to see him and Blair watching me, their faces etched with concern.
"Where have you been?" Blair asked, her tone sharp with worry.
I hadn't told anyone where I was going. Only Freya knew as she had shown me the way to the Lunar Realm, but she'd promised to keep it a secret. I intended to share everything once I confirmed what I felt about the mysterious woman. And now I knew-she was my mate and her name was Selena.
"It's a long story," I said with a deep exhale, rubbing the back of my neck.noveldrama
"Okay?!" Blair said, her frustration clear as she crossed her arms. "But we were worried, Zander. You disappeared without a word. You didn't tell anyone where you were going!"
Her complaint stung a little, but I couldn't blame her.
"I am your Beta, Zander. At least you should confide in me," Maddox whined.
"I know, I know, but now I'm back, and everything is fine," I said, trying to avoid their questioning gazes. "You better tell us everything-where you went and what made you disappear unannounced," Maddox demanded. This time, I knew it wasn't just my Beta speaking; it was my best friend demanding answers. I told them everything and their shock mirrored the disbelief I'd felt when Selena told me about us.
"Oh my goddess, Zander! When did this happen? Because I swear, I don't remember you marrying a woman named Selena," Blair said, still reeling in shock.
I was just as confused. Selena claimed we were married and had a son, which meant Austin was our child. But my memories told a different story-I remembered marrying Avery and having a son with her. I only recalled Avery dying during a rogue attack, but the details were fuzzy. The doctor once said it was the mind's defense system, a way to cope with trauma and prevent the mind from malfunctioning due to tragic memories.
Did I have tragic memories of Selena as well? If so, why had everyone else forgotten her too? Goddess, there were so many questions-questions I was desperate to find answers to.
"What are we going to do now?" Maddox asked, making me turn my head to look at him as another thought sparked in my mind.
"I need to get to the bottom of this secret as I feel like there's more to this than what meets the eye," I murmured, my thoughts deep and racing.
"But first," I straightened my posture,
taking a deep breath filled with
determination, "we have to file a complain
with the council about the
queen of the Lunar Realm," I
smirked, a plan forming in my mind.

Maddox and Blair looked at me with confusion, their brows furrowed. But I knew exactly what I was doing. If my mate thought she could marry someone else while I was alive, she was sorely mistaken. I wouldn't let it happen. I would do
anything-everything—to make her realize her place was with me. She belonged to me, and only me.
"Dad!" Austin's voice broke through my thoughts. He came running toward me, and I crouched to catch him as he leaped into my arms.
I held him close, the love I felt for him warming my chest. He was the only one I'd ever felt true love for- until now. Now I felt that same love for Selena.
"Where were you?" he asked, his little face full of worry.
I smiled, gently pushing the hair back from his forehead before pressing a kiss to his head.
Before I could answer him, my mother appeared as well, seeming like she had been following Austin.
"Yes, Zander, where were you? You made all of us so worried," she scolded, her voice laced with maternal concern.
"Relax, Mother. I was only away for a day, and I'm fine," I replied softly, trying to ease her worry. I turned to face Austin, a smile forming for him. "I'm here now, son," I whispered, holding him tighter.
"Don't do that kind of thing again," she said, leaning her head against my chest. I wrapped my arms gently around her aged frame, feeling the weight of her concern in the way her voice trembled with emotion.
"Okay, I won't do it again. I promise,"
I assured her. Then, hoping to lighten the mood and distract everyone, I turned to my son with a smile Now, let's go to your room, Austin. Show me what you did at school today."
"Yes, Dad! I want to show you my teacher gave me an A grade for my art!" he exclaimed enthusiastically.
My mother smiled at his excitement, and Austin slipped down from my arms, grabbing my hand in his
small one and pulling me toward his room. His innocent enthusiasm was contagious.
I glanced back at Maddox, who gave me a knowing nod and pulled out his phone from his pocket. I knew
it was time. I smiled again at my son and let him lead me to his room.
What do you think?
