“Are you crying?” Noah asked when I didn’t speak for a while. He kept standing there waiting for me to speak. I wasn’t going to speak to him. If he wished to divorce me I would willingly go because he doesn’t love me. What is the use of staying here when he doesn’t love me?

My thoughts were interrupted when I felt a hand in my own that was covering my face. “Why are you crying?” he whispered. He pulled my hands down from my face and I was able to see his face. His dark green eyes were a shade darker than normal.

“Leave me” I muttered and tried to push him away from myself. I struggled from his grip and he freed my hand. I cleaned my face from the tears. “I want to go have dinner,” I say and he frowns. “Can’t I have dinner?” I say my voice rising by an octave.

“Rachael please hear me out” he pleads and I eye him.

“What else do you have to say about your ex living here and then telling you to divorce me?” I shout at him. He looks sad but I press. “What did you say?” I ask him with disgust. “Nothing right you just mopped. I know that we aren’t married on the very best terms but that doesn’t mean that you have to treat me anyhow” I say stopping for a moment to catch my breath. “You may not be my Prince Charming but I have to say fate brought us together. The least you can do is respect me and the baby” I say this time with tears filling my whole face. “Just go,” I say turning my face away from him.

“I know we aren’t married because we love each other” he finally speaks. His voice is soft in contrast to the tone I had used with him. “But we promised on the altar till death do us part,” he said and I frowned a sad laugh escaping my mouth.

“What does that matter? We all later see that people divorce” I scoff at him.

“Not me Rachael. I promised and I want to keep that promise” he said and I just couldn’t believe the lies he was brewing from inside him.

“Noah just leave,” I say more tears pooling my face.

“Since it seems that my other promise doesn’t make sense. I’m going to make another one” he said with heavy breaths. My eyes find his. His smile is sad but it sits on his face. He looks down and stands from his crouching position. He pulls me up with him.

“Noah” his name manages to leave my lips in a squeak. This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.

“I promise to you today to never ever leave you alone expect death takes me away,” he says in a sigh. “I promise to defend you from now on from my mom, family, and even ex. I promise to defend you from anything and anyone” he said and I nodded.

“Are you sure?” I ask barely hearing myself. He heard me because he still smiled and nodded.

“You have my word,” he said staring at me. I looked at him and then at the floor beneath us. I could feel his stare all over me. He jumped when a knock came on the door. He went towards the door to open it. I trailed behind him. Pat was standing there with a sad expression on her face.

“Mr. Lorraine,” she said when Noah looked at her. “Your mom is here,” she said and then a pit was created in the deep of my stomach.

Could this day get any worse my subconscious mind screams inside me. I heave a sigh and follow Noah as he makes his way down the stairs to his mom. Nichole was happily chatting with Mrs. Lorraine. The look she threw my way made me know I was still in her book of hatred.

“Mom, it’s so late what are you doing here?” Noah asked her hugging her while I just stood like I was out of place. Out of place in my husband’s house?

“I came to see you and tell you and that thing you call a wife something,” she said with a sneer in her voice.

“Mom,” he said with a warning tone in his voice. She rolled her eyes and proceeded to sit down. Nichole still sat there with a smile on her face. I thought she wanted to tell the couple something.

“Nichole kindly excuse us,” Noah said when he saw she made no move. He held my hand so visibly that they could all see that he was with me. Nichole gave a deathly glare before making her way upstairs.

“Nichole stays here?” Noah’s mom started. I frowned at the topic direction.

“Mom,” Noah says with a frown. “Focus,” he said and she just nodded.

“Noah you came to me a few days ago to ask why I don’t like Rachael,” she said with a backlash to my name. I was shocked she remembered my name.

“Yes Mom, and you said you would tell me in due time,” he said. “You told me to be careful of her and that advice was the worst you have ever given me,” he says with disgust. That explains the cold shoulder.

“Well, a long time. About forty years ago, I had a person who I was supposed to marry. You know I loved him although he didn’t really have an interest in me he learnt to accommodate me and we grew to love each other.” she said taking a deep breath. “That person was Jasper Mirchoff” she stated. I for one was eye wide. I don’t know what she was talking about. “Then Alice came along and then Jasper fell for her. She loved him back. I was ignored and Jasper started cheating on me and finally, she was pregnant for you” she said and then her eyes fell on me.

“What does this have to do with Rachael?” Noah asked.

“If she was never born then I would be married to someone who loves me,” she said with so much hate in her voice. “And I never had that much problem with her until you brought her our way again. She trapped you the same way her mom trapped her father” she sneered. Tears streamed from my eyes. I felt so very bad at this.

“Mom stop. She didn’t trap me. It was a mistake” Noah groaned at her.

“I want to believe her but I feel like it is a manipulation,” she said. I wanted to talk but my voice only screamed in my head at her. It caused a very serious headache. I felt my head become so very light and then blackout. The last thing I heard before my eyelids fell was my name leaving Noah’s lips
