How I Remarry My Ex-Wife by Alvin Humphre

Chapter 45

Chapter 45

Whitney’s face was no longer as flushed as before, clearly the effects of the alcohol were slowly wearing off.

“Let me walk you in,” Finnegan said, already unfastening her seatbelt and helping her out of the car before she could refuse.

She lived in a studio, a bit of a distance away. Finnegan followed behind her like a bodyguard.

“This is my place up ahead, thank you,” she said.

Whitney’s intention was already clear, but Finnegan acted as if he had not heard anything, still following behind her.

Just as they were about to reach the entrance of the studio, a figure suddenly blocked Whitney’s path. “Winnie, where have you been? couldn’t reach you by phone and couldn’t find you. It’s really worrying.”

Finnegan, who was behind her, reacted quickly and pulled her back a bit.

“Jonah, why are you here so late?” Whitney asked with some confusion when she saw the person in front of her clearly.

“It’s nothing. I’m just a bit worried about you,” he said, but his gaze did not stay on Whitney. Instead, his eyes kept hovering on Finnegan, full of vigilance. Original from NôvelDrama.Org.

Of course,

it was not just Jonah who was vigilant, Finnegan was too.

Whitney stood in the middle feeling inexplicably awkward and oppressed, so she explained, looking at Jonah.

“This is Finnegan, the manager of Indigox Corporation, and the project coordinator for this project,” she said, then turned to look at him.

“This is my best friend, Jonah.”

Then, she smiled and said, “Mr. Hall, thank you for the dinner and for sending me back. I’m going

g inside now. Take care on your way back.”

At that point, Finnegan did not have much reason to stay anymore. He just smiled lightly, said nothing, and turned to leave.

“Whitney, let me send you back. What’s wrong with your phone? Why hasn’t anyone been answering? You know this really worries me.” Jonah kept pestering her from behind, while also glancing back at Finnegan who had already left.

“Let me tell you, as a young lady, don’t be alone with those kinds of men late at night. It’s very dangerous, especially since you’re so pretty.”

‘Young lady?‘ She thought to herself. She had long been an adult woman, not to mention a divorced one.

“Okay, I got it, but Finnegan is not the kind of person you think he is. He’s a friend of Hayden,” she explained..

However, Jonah was n not convinced. “Winnie, don’t you know you can never judge the book by its cover? Why are you so naive? What if something happens to you? What will you do then?”

She sighed lightly. Jonah was always talkative like that, but fortunately, she was used to it. Besides, she was very tired now and did not have the energy to argue with him. She just wanted to go back and curl up in her soft bed.

Finally, the elevator arrived. She opened the door and wearily sat on the couch.

“Winnie, did you hear what I just said? Girls must be careful, after all, there are too many dangerous people!” Jonah said.

Jonah, I want to rest. Thank you for sending me back. I got it, you should go back and rest early too.”

She really did not know how much longer he would go on if she let him. She was really about to collapse.

Jonah sighed, looking helpless, and said softly, “Go to sleep soon. Remember what I said.”

With that, he walked towards the door, but just as he was about to close it, he suddenly stopped.

“What’s wrong?” Whitney did not hear the door close, so she turned her head in a you drop something?”

“No, Winnie, there’s a birthday party for an elder tomorrow. There will be many businessmen there, so I wanted to ask if you wanted to go. After all, it’s a good opportunity to expand your network.”

She thought about it and nodded. “Okay!” Then she walked into the bedroom, exhausted.

Downstairs, Finnegan had not left. He saw Jonah come out of the building and quickly hid himself in the shadows.

Although Whitney said that Jonah was her bestie, Finnegan felt that Jonah’s gaze toward her was different. It was not how one would look at a friend

Suddenly a sense of danger hit him. Although not strong,

it was still there

He thought for a moment. A woman as outstanding as Whitney naturally had many pursuers, and Jonah was probably just one of them. It seemed that the path to pursue her would be a bit difficult.

The next day, Whitney was awakened from her sleep by Jonah. She looked at the clock and saw it was only ten in the morning, and she did not have to work today. ‘Why do I have to get up so early?” she wondered.

She was not allowed to sleep well even during a well–deserved weekend. She was a bit grumpy as she picked up the phone with a complaining tone,

“What’s up? If it’s important, wait until I wake up.” She wanted to hang up immediately right after that.

“We talked about this yesterday. Today is the birthday party. Get up quickly. I’ll bring you shopping,” Jonah immediately shattered her thoughts of sleeping in.

She scratched her messy hair, suddenly realizing that he had mentioned it the day before.

Before she could reply, he said, “I’ll be there in half an hour!” Then, he hung up.

She got up from the bed, dragging her still sleepy head to get dressed and freshen up.

Jonah was very punctual, and half an hour later, his car appeared downstairs.

“Let’s go, I’ll bring you to dress up beautifully!” Once they got in the car, he was especially excited and happy.

Tonight, Whitney would be his female companion, and he had to outshine everyone.

“Do you think I’m not pretty already?” She pretended to glare at him.

“No, no, no, how could that be? You’re the most beautiful, the prettiest!” he said, helping her fasten her seatbelt, like a loving couple.

They drove all the way to the city’s most luxurious commercial street.

There were not many people there. After all, not everyone could afford to shop there

Of course, Whitney also rarely went there. Before returning to the Greene family, she was just a girl hovering on the edge of subsistence.

“Let’s buy clothes, shoes, accessories-” Jonah had planned out what they would buy later, afraid of missing anything.

She followed him, listening obediently.

“Winnie, look at this, it especially suits you!” The two of them walked into a store under the Indigox Corporation brand, looking at the dazzling array of jewelry with their equally dazzled eyes

Of course, Jonah naturally did not appreciate them. His eyes immediately focused on the limited edition items in the display window.

In his heart, only limited editions were worthy of Whitney.

Hearing his call, she walked to his side. It was a string of pearl and platinum necklace, each pearl round and lustrous, almost the same size, and each one was embedded with diamonds, making it even more dazzling.
