His Ex-wife Is An Heiress (Amara and Tobias)

Chapter 0077

"Like bodyguards?" Amara asked as they walked towards the elevator.

"Exactly bodyguards."

Duncan's answer had her cringing. She was never a fan of bodyguards. "There's no need to go that far."

"But Mr. Reynolds-"

"He's not a threat, pay no mind to him." Amara assured as the elevator dinged and they stepped out. "If you want to worry about something, then I suggest you worry about the work on your desk. I'm sure it's piling up by the second." Duncan wanted to refute, or at least try to pursue his suggestion one final try, but the look in Amara's eyes had him clamping his mouth shut and settling for a simple nod. "I understand, Ma'am."

Four long hours of work, bunch of annoying emails and unreasonable executives were all it took to run the energy Amara had consumed before leaving home, to the ground.

By the time the clock was approaching two in the afternoon, her stomach was rumbling and her throat was parched.

Pushing her chair back, she left the office, instructing Duncan that she'd be stepping out for a bit to have lunch. He offered to follow, which she turned down without second thoughts.

Arriving at the restaurant just a few blocks from her company, she was pleased to find that there wasn't a long queue waiting for the service.

The place was a newly opened Italian restaurant. It's menu, though a tad too expensive for a regular's meal, was not bad and the food was pretty decent.

"A table for one." Amara stated, catching the attention of the female at the front. She smiled and handed Amara a menu, gesturing to the seat beside her.

"Right this way." The female said and led Amara to an empty table, seating her down and allowing her the time to browse through the menu while she went to get their complementary wine.

As Amara browsed through the menu, a shadow suddenly loomed over her.

Looking up, she was surprised to see Helios standing in front of her and more surprised to see healing bruises on his face and arm in a sling.

"Helios, What a pleasant surprise."

"Pleasant, or unpleasant?" Helios responded, seating himself down without bothering to ask. "You made it clear the last time we spoke that my presence and advances were making you...uncomfortable." Amara didn't bother replying. Instead, she changed the topic.

"What happened to your arm?"Property belongs to Nôvel(D)r/ama.Org.

Helios glanced down at his arm and chuckled. "Tobias, that bastard has more strength than a raging bull."

Amara's head lulled to the side. "You fought Tobias? Why?" The curiosity got the better of her and she couldn't help but ask. Seconds later however, she regretted asking, as Helios's answer once again unintentionally put her in an uncomfortable spot.

"It was all because of you." He leaned forward on the table with his uninjured hand. "Are you going to compensate me for that?" "Compensation? What kind?"

"Becoming my girlfriend would suffice. Wasn't that the deal? I punch that sucker for you and you'd agree to go on a date with me." Amara clearly recalled the deal. It was the one she had made in front of Giovanni, wanting to pit Tobias against one of his buddy-buddy. Guess like they weren't all that close.

A sigh from Amara was all it took to let Helios know his fate and her words further solidified it.

"My answer's still the same, Helios. I'm sorry."

Hurt flashed in Helios's eyes, but he quickly masked it with a smile. "Why? Is it because I'm not Tobias?"

"No," Amara was quick to shake her head, flattening that idea of his. "It has nothing to do with him. It's just that, I'm not ready to be in a relationship right now and honestly...I think you deserve someone better." "Someone better," Helios smiled wistfully, knowing fully well that there was no one better for him.

It had been that way since the first time he saw Amara during their second year of college. He had been immediately drawn to her.

However, she was always drawn to Tobias. Her gaze was always on Tobias, standing as a silent warning that her heart belonged to someone else.
