Smiling like they were friends
The address given by Agent Z is a mansion in the middle of the jungle. It’s two miles away from the busiest business district in the capital. There was a maid in the mansion who opened the door for them.
The maid served them something to eat, which Carol received without hesitation. Jenica’s assistant looked at her awkwardly, asking for permission to eat.
Her lips twitched and her eyes rolled. The assistant smiled and reached the center table for food.
Jenica looked around inside the mansion. She noticed devices installed in hidden corners to prevent signal transmission from the outside. She raised a brow.
They waited for several hours before Agent Z woke up. When the man saw Carol, his face soured. “You’re still here,” he said blandly before sitting on the sofa opposite to Jenica.
Carol blinked. “You have the face to get rude? You’re the reason why I’m stuck in trouble!”
Agent Z raised his hand and a maid approached. She bowed down slightly next to him. “Yes, Master.”
“Give them rooms,” Agent Z said.
Carol huffed but she couldn’t do anything but follow the maid to the second floor of the mansion. Jenica also asked her assistant to follow the two upstairs.
Only she and Agent Z were left at the living room, while the man was staring at her with a serious face. Jenica raised a brow. “What did you find?” she asked.
“The mastermind behind those damned needles is not Jared but someone more powerful. It involves a mafia syndicate.”
Jenica cast her gaze down. “I see. But what are you doing in the slums?”
“They have a hideout in that area. If not for,” Agent Z sneered. “That woman, I might have infiltrated their hideout by now.”
It looked like Carol ruined Agent Z’s plan. Jenica chuckled. “Okay, but do you know the name of that syndicate?”
“Pigeons.”
“Huh?”
“The organization name is Pigeons, same name as a famous chips brand.”
Oh, what an unusual name.
Jenica stared at Agent Z who raised an eyebrow. “What are you staring at?” he asked.
“You were unconscious when I found you in the middle of the woods. The HQ is also worried about you running away after your assistants found your wrecked car but you were nowhere. Are you planning to run away, Agent Z?” she teased.
“What do you think?” the man asked with a smile.
Jenica smiled at him too. “You should be honest with me since I’m tasked to bring you back.”
“Don’t bother. I know what I’m doing,” Agent Z denied. “Just let them know I’m still breathing.”
“So, that unconscious state is your doing?”
“Of course. How can I deceive those bastards if I can’t take a little loss?” Agent Z said, huffing madly. “I asked you not to bring me to the hospital because that mafia syndicate controls a large area in the outskirts. I don’t plan to step within their territory yet.”
“Alright.” Jenica looked away. “I believe you’ve had an encounter with Jared himself. Can you give me his whereabouts?”
The edge of Agent Z’s lips curved. “Unless you offer me something of equivalent value.”
Jenica pressed her lips together. This man is really careful not to be taken advantage of. With a frown, she grabbed something from her pocket which was a bottle containing two pills. “That is a pill for curing the aftereffects. I know you’ve taken a poison to weaken your body but seriously, can you think of another way to infiltrate their hideout?”
She already diagnosed the man when she took his pulse earlier. He took a poison to hide his true health’s condition. And it might be the reason why he’s unconscious for the whole night.
But damaging one’s health to ensure the mission’s success is not a good idea. How could he protect himself if he’s weak?
“Are you worried?” Agent Z teased. “As an agent, you can’t afford that feeling.”
The corner of her lips twitched. “Anyway, I will tell the HQ you’re alive and still working on your mission.”
Agent Z just raised his hand while chuckling, gesturing her to go on. Jenica blinked and called her assistant to give an update to the agency. As Code X herself, Agent Z’s devices to cut off communication from the outside couldn’t stop her.
The next day, Jenica said goodbye to Carol. Her friend was nagging her because she wanted to go with her but Jenica didn’t agree.
“Stay here. That man,” Jenica pointed to Agent Z. “– is my friend. He will ensure your safety.”
“But –”
“They have seen your face so before the authorities could take down that syndicate, you are not safe in the city. Sham will be sad knowing that you got hurt.”
Carol sighed. “Fine. Promise me, safety first, okay?”
“Yes,” she said with a smile and pointed her pinky finger in front of Agent Z.
The corner of the latter’s lips twitched. “That’s enough. You,” the man looked at Jenica. “Just go. I want to take a rest.”
Carol’s face darkened at Agent Z’s words and she berated him earning a scowl from the man. But Agent Z seemed not to take Carol’s words to heart.
Jenica laughed and shook her head before driving the car out of the huge gate, separating the huge mansion from the outside world.
She had successfully bartered with Agent Z. In exchange for the medicine she gave him, he did give her the location where Jared currently lives.
Jenica was surprised at first because of how fast Agent Z’s mission progressed. She couldn’t even find Jared’s exact location without help from her assistant, but Agent Z was able to find his lair in just a few weeks, without depending on HQ!
As expected from the top one agent of HQ. Jenica cast her gaze down on the map and raised an eyebrow.
If she’s not mistaken, Jared’s current location is a subdivision. And this familiar subdivision is the same subdivision where Alex’s house is!
Her grip on the steering wheel tightened and her jaws clenched. After a while, Jenica laughed. “What a coincidence!”
If that’s the case, she has to go back to being Alexander’s wife. What a hassle. She sighed.
The car stopped at a hotel and Jenica checked in. She stood at the balcony overlooking the towering buildings of the capital and called Renato, Alex’s assistant.
“Hello, Mrs. Fuego,” he greeted.
Jenica raised a brow. She’s quite surprised Alex’s personal assistant has picked up the phone. The last time she tried to call, he didn’t pick up even once. She squinted. “Where’s my husband?”
Renato was silent for a few minutes before he answered, “He’s currently at the outskirts of the capital.”
“Oh.” Just as what she expected that man would be. But it’s been weeks and he’s still strolling with Gia on the outskirts?
Jenica scowled. “So when is he coming back?” she asked in a cheerful voice, almost mocking.
“Tomorrow evening.” The man on the other end added, “Mr. Fuego asked me to tell you his number is available, and you can… S-stop calling this number and call him directly, Mrs. Fuego.”
“Huh.” Jenica chuckled. A glint flashed across her eyes. “Really? That’s so kind of him. But tell that man to come pick me up in the address I’ll send to you later. If he won’t come, I promise to run away again,” she warned before hanging up .
She huffed and sent the address of the hotel she was staying on to the PA. Then she went back inside with a dark face. “Go to hell!” she screamed and threw the phone on the bed.
Jenica closed her eyes and breathed deeply for a few minutes before calming down. She didn’t know why she felt frustrated and anger towards Alex. That bastard’s enjoying himself with Gia Antonete, whom she was keeping an eye on because of her mission.
And now, he has the guts to ask her to call him. Her? Huh! Who is he to ask her to make the first move? Never!
She sighed and picked up her phone from the bed, and called her assistant. “Any news on Antonete Enterprise?”
“Yes. Fortunately, we received a report from one of our agents just this morning.” The other line was silent for a moment before Jenica heard the assistant’s voice again. “The main Antonete Enterprise has the direct control over the rubber factory in the South where you’ve discovered the first stage of poison needle making. The Antonete branch in Laguna is only the proxy and that they gave the governor in the South, Jobert Labastida , a temporary control to use the factory in order to produce an ingredient for those poisonous needles.”
Jenica raised her eyebrows. That’s why she couldn’t find any evidence against Antonete of Laguna regarding the factory in the South. It turned out, Yvette’s family is only a shield for the main Antonete Enterprise in the capital. And that’s why Dante requested Code X to find the missing trucks of poisonous needles because his family is the one that controls where they will be sent to the South.
Jobert seems unaware that Yvette’s family has no direct control over the factory and thought of the woman’s family as his direct supporter.
Jenica’s eyes narrowed. “How about their connection to Jared?”
“As of the moment, our people can’t verify if Antonete Enterprise has a direct connection with Jared. There is someone powerful behind the Antonete Enterprise so aside from that information, nothing new has been added to the database.”
Jenica thought for a moment before asking again. “Any information on Antonete’s immediate family members?”
“Nothing new aside from Dante Antonete taking up the CEO position of Antonete Enterprise last night.”
“Oh?” Jenica raised her eyebrows. “What happened?”
“Alexander Fuego is back on his position as the CEO of Fuego Empire yesterday. In order to appease Fuego’s reservation on what happened during the engagement party months ago, the former CEO of Antonete Enterprise stepped down to let his son take over the company. ”
Oh that incident. Jenica tapped her forehead. She remembered the naked picture of Gia that was released at the engagement party and that it spread on social media because of her order. But she had told her assistant to take it down a few days later.
Well, Jenica knew that it’s bad to ruin a woman’s reputation but it was Gia Antonete who attempted to murder her first. She sighed and shook her head.
But if the Fuego has reservations on what happened, so why did Alex and Gia were seen together in the outskirts of the capital? What’s even more annoying is that the two seem to be having fun as if they were a real couple. This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
What a great ‘couple’ indeed!
Jenica gritted her teeth. “Alright. Just notify me if you got news.”
“Roger that.”
She ended tha call and threw her body on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.
Alex, what is he doing?
Come to think of it, she and Alex are currently married. But what is he doing with that woman?
He should know that he’ll never have the chance to marry Gia Antonete if they won’t get a divorce. But until now, Alex never sent her a divorce letter nor expressed his intention to do so.
And while they were in the South, he was always clinging to her as if he didn’t want to let her go. If not for that stabbing incident in a store, Jenica is sure that Alex won’t go back to the capital.
But it’s been weeks since he went back to the capital but she haven’t received a call from him, as if he had forgotten her.
And when she saw his picture with Gia, the anger she had been harboring inside suddenly rushed out.
Huh. Why did her heart soften for that man?
‘Just a mere care from that man is enough for you to throw away your anger all these years? No. It shouldn’t be so!’ she thought.
She squinted.
If those two want to get married, then she won’t sign the divorce paper that Alex will give to her in the future!
Jenica quickly dressed and left the hotel. She drove the car to the subdivision where Alex’s house is. She stood outside the huge gate and was about to enter when the guard saw her.
“Miss! No entry of non-homeowners.”
Jenica glanced briefly at the guard. “Are you sure? How do you know who the homeowners are? Do you have some kind of powers?” she asked, clearly mocking him.
Before the red-faced guard could speak, Jenica heard someone laughing behind him. She frowned and turned back.
There she saw a man about her age. He had a long red hair that reached his shoulders and an earring in his right ear. A mischievous smile was plastered on his lips.
“Hi, Miss. Do you need help?” he asked, grinning at her.
Well how absurd. Jared, her target, is standing before her, smiling like they were friends.
