Done giving them face(1)
With a token in hand, Jenica walked out of the huge mansion with a small smile hanging on her lips. She’s happy to have that token that can mobilize hundreds of men under the Mafia Don. It was an unexpected gain.
Jenica only realized by now that Agent Z allowed the Mafia Don to find her because he found out about the mafia don’s intentions towards her. Huh. That arrogant Agent Z didn’t inform her!
She hailed a taxi and traveled to the Desmana Group. She needed to talk to Bryce and found out from Daisy what Agent Z’s plan next.
But upon arriving at the main building of the company, she saw that reporters were surrounding Bryce. Jenica halted and watched the scene from afar, wondering if someone from Desmana had led the reporters in front of the main building or this work was from the Mondragon to pressure the Desmana Group?
“Mr. Desmana, is it true that one of your staff was poisoned?”
“Is it true that the member of the Board of Directors was deliberately killed by one of the Desmanas?”
“What do you have to say about Gray Mondragon suing the entire Desmana Group?”From NôvelDrama.Org.
One of his bodyguards stood in front of Bryce to block reporters who wanted to get close to the President. “Everyone, we’ll hold a press conference later. Please coordinate with our media officer for slots,” the bodyguard said.
Then the bodyguards guided Bryce inside the main building. Jenica looked around and noticed some suspicious people whom she deduced were from the Antonete lurking around the area. She raised a brow and thought something must be going on behind the rivalry and Agent Z knew of it but decided to do nothing.
Jenica chuckled. It was not possible to bring down completely the Antonete branch especially when the main branch in the capital won’t let it happen. Agent Z knew of it so he was just teasing the branch family to shake them up but the Desmana might be thinking otherwise. They might thought that it’s an opportunity to bring down their rival since they got her and Daisy to work for them.
But sorry. Her mission in Laguna was over so she would no longer interfere in the family rivalry of the two clans. Also, she’s not interested in solving future problems for those ungrateful people. They still owe her for bullying her.
Jenica looked for Bryce in the office and saw him talking to Daisy. When the woman saw her, she greeted her with a smile. “Miss Jane, what are you doing here?”
“I want to talk with Mr. Desmana,” she said.
Daisy shrugged and left the office. Only she and Bryce were left behind. The man looked at her. “What do you want to talk about, Code X?”
Jenica pursed her lips. “Do you know what your family intends to do with this chaotic situation?”
He frowned. “What happened?” he asked when he noticed that Jenica was angry.
“What else?” She faked a smile. “Your family wants to sacrifice me to end Mondragon’s claim onto your family. Mr. Desmana, do you agree with their decision?”
Bryce was silent for a moment before sighing. “I’m sorry about that, Code X. I don’t know what my family is planning but if it’s you, I know you can manage this situation.”
Jenica raised her eyebrows. “Do you mean… you agree to let me take the blame?”
“It’s not that I agree,” he said and touched the bridge of his nose. “But your name — Jane Lau — is not a true name, isn’t it? If you can take the blame, you can just run away and use another identity. But if I or my family will take the blame, we can’t run away and hide ourselves.”
A glint flashed across Jenica’s eyes and after a few seconds of silence, she chuckled. “But I didn’t do anything to that old man. Why should I take the blame for you or your family?”
“Code X, you need my help and I will offer my company’s help if you’ll take the blame. I promise —”
“Your family threatened me to sign a contract. They backstabbed me multiple times while I was staying in your mansion. They called ten elite squad members to attack me. And someone poisoned me. Mr. Desmana, do you think I still want to help your damned family?”
“Code X, please watch your words.”
Jenica smirked. “Why? Isn’t it true?” she asked with a smile.
“But you still need my help —”
“Do you think so?” she cut his words. “I don’t need your help anymore, Mr. Desmana. So don’t you dare play tricks on me.”
“What are you trying to say, Code X? Are you looking down on me?” Bryce asked darkly. “Is what Lynet is saying true? That you are looking down on me and Desmana Group?”
Jenica stared at Bryce for a few seconds. What an odd man. Why did she help this man who forgot to put his feet on the ground when he tasted victory?
She sighed. “It seemed like our cooperation must end here, Mr. Desmana.”
“Why?” he asked, frowning. After a while, his face darkened again. “Alright. It seems like my small company can’t satisfy you, Code X.”
Jenica was left speechless. It seemed like Lynet successfully poisoned Bryce’s mind to think negatively of her. But she was not in the mood to correct his thinking so she left the disappointed Bryce in his office and looked for Daisy.
“Miss Jane, what can I do for you?” the woman asked with a smile.
“Is Agent Z planning to go to the capital?”
The smile disappeared from Daisy’s lips and was replaced by a serious expression. “Yes.”
“Alright,” she said then left Daisy’s office.
Jenica bet that Daisy will remain in Laguna and only Agent Z and his other forces will move to the capital. So she planned to move to the capital tomorrow.
But the Desmanas didn’t let her sleep well that night. As soon as she entered the mansion, more than ten men were waiting for her. All of them held weapons in their hands.
Jenica folded her arms and turned to Lynet with a dark face, glaring at her to death. “So this is how you apologize,” she said sarcastically and smiled at the woman. “I’m quite touched.”
