Chapter 293
Chapter 293
Floretta raised her head and rested her chin on her hands. There was anticipation in her eyes, and she said, “Oh, I can smell the cake. It's nice. Did you make a ton of desserts. Angel?”
“But of course.” Angeline smiled. She slid some gloves on and opened the food wanner, then carefully, she took out a slice of cake. “Do you want to tiy some?”
Driven by her compulsive desire to eat, Floretta took the cake from Angeline and blew on it for a moment. Then she took a bite. “Oh my, it's so good.” She held the cake closer and stared at it. Curious, she asked, “But this one looks weird. What kind of animal is it?”
Angeline arched her eyebrow and chuckled. “It's not an animal. Your father made this for you himself.”
“Really?” Floretta's eyes shone with surprise. “He can make cakes? So he's not a total clueless cook now.”
“Well, you can say that.” Angeline patted the girl's head. Patiently, she said, “Your father's working hard for you. So you can be happy. He might be busy, but that doesn't mean he doesn't love you.”
Angeline was a smart woman. Whatever feud she had with Evander. it would remain between them. A child like Floretta should never be involved in a grudge. She would never tiy to talk badly about Evander in front of Floretta. However, she wouldn't lie and tell her that Evander was perfect, either.
Floretta puckered her lips, her eyes filling with annoyance. “I hate Ms. Sherrock. I don't ever want to talk to her. Can you take me away, please?” she asked cutely.
Angeline frowned. That was a hard request to fulfill.
Suddenly, the girl tugged on the hem of her clothes, her gaze shining with an unspoken plea. Angeline felt something tugging on her heartstrings, and she felt like taking the girl with her.
Just then, a loud bang erupted on the second floor, and Angeline shuddered. Fear grasped her heart, and she asked nervously, “You didn't bring Sebastian with you?”
Floretta stuffed her mouth with bread, and she shook her head. “No. He's still in my room. Ms. Sherrock said she could keep an eye on him.”
“What?” All color was drained from Angelinas face, and she felt a sinking feeling in her stomach. Of all people, why her? She hates my guts, and now she's alone with my son in a room? Who knows what kind of torture she would inflict on him?
Angeline felt her heart sink. She put down all her baking tools and trotted out of the kitchen. The first tiling she heard was the gasps of pain coming from the second floor. They were from Olivine.
“Ow, that hurts!”
The moment Angeline took the stairs, Evander rose from the couch and went up the stabs with her. He looked positively grim. Is he worried about his fiancee?
The thought of that angered Angeline. They'd better hope nothing happens to my son, or there will be hell to pay.
Angeline arrived at Floretta's room and opened the door. The first tiling she smelled was the stench of blood wafting in the air. She clutched her chest and coughed violently, her heart sinking deeper.
When she looked around, Angeline saw Floretta's table overturned, and her books and stationery were strewn across the floor. On the floor lay a woman. A familiar one nonetheless.
Olivine.
The table was pressing down on her leg. and blood trickled down to the floor. She clutched her bleeding wound, her face pale as a sheet. “H-Help. It hurts...”
The situation was a surprise for Angeline. She wondered what Olivine was trying to do. though she didn't even lift a finger to help. Instead, she looked around the room once more, but her son was still nowhere to be found.
Stricken by fear, she searched every coiner of the room, shouting, “I'm here. Sebastian. Come out!”
Following that, she heard a quiet sound coming from the cupboard. Quickly, she approached it and opened the cupboard up. Inside it was her son, all curled up and shivering in fear. He was hugging himself, his forehead drenched in sweat. Angeline saw him murmur, but liis voice was too quiet for her to hear.
“Are you all right, Sebastian?” This is all my fault. I should've been more careful with him. She quickly checked on him, and to her relief, all he suffered were slight wounds. I guess he's just shocked.
Angeline heaved a sigh of relief, but still, seeing her son so scared didn't sit well with her. She took him out of the cupboard and gently promised, “It's okay. Nobody's going to hurt you. I'll make sure they don't.”
As if he understood what liis mother told him, Sebastian calmed down and hugged his mother. In silence, he lay in liis mother's arms, looking for solace.
Evander had arrived at the room as well. The moment he showed up, Olivine choked up. “Help me. Evander. It hurts.” All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.
A frown creased Evander's forehead, but he approached Olivine and pushed the fallen table anyway. He held her arm, but before Evander could even help her up, Olivine pounced into his embrace and
cried. “Thank goodness you came. I thought you'd leave me behind. Quick, check my leg. I hope this won't leave a scar.”
Her cries did nothing but frustrate Evander. He would've pushed her away if he could, but alas, she was hurt. So instead, he held her ankle and looked at the wound. “It won't leave a scar. Just a shallow' wound. Francesca will get the family doctor.”
“Okay.” Even though she was confirmed to be fine, she still held on to Evander, refusing to let go. Worried, she said, “That's good to hear. Our w’edding is just around the comer. It'd be bad if I had a scar.”
She was bragging about her eventual marriage to someone. And that someone was Angeline.
Angeline was holding her son, w'atching helplessly as Evander took careful care of Olivine. A hint of sorrow7 filled her eyes. Why did I even care? All he cares about is her. She's everything to him. I'm nothing.
She smirked. “Mr. Golding, she scared my son. I'll need her to explain herself. Or you can do it for her if you'd like.”
