Heir of Broken Fate: Chapter 9
Gliding through the Mason River, I lead my sisters to the edge of the border.
Surfacing above the water, I turn to them. “This is as far as we go.”
Amelia glides to my side, my second on lookout for any unwanted attention. Feeling the change in the water, in unison, my sisters and I turn, waiting.
Moments later, a small white rowboat floats toward us, a spark of light indicating she crossed the invisible threshold. As one, my seven sisters and I dive below the surface, pulling the rowboat along the river and snaking through hidden channels in the mermaid territory. Those without a tail would find themselves lost at the bottom of the ocean if they dared tread these waters.
The current flows in my bones, through my hair and down my tail. The water slips over my scales, and I feel peace. Finally, the time has come, the day my sisters and I have been waiting to take action for.
We are ready.
Reaching Delilah’s destination, my sisters and I tie the boat to the small wooden dock on the far-right side of the river. Nodding in appreciation, I prepare to leave when Amelia’s voice stops me.
“Should we heal her?” she asks. Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
Lifting higher out of the water, I peer into the boat, seeing she’s indeed been injured.
I send my magic toward her, receiving images in my mind in return.
“No. Our part is done. Now we wait,” I order.
Submerging, my sisters and I leave as fast as we arrived, letting the current sing to us as we swim home.
