Falling for my Ex-Fiancee’s Best friend

The slap

Demelza turned swiftly from hearing the sound of a car zoom off but she could only catch the side of the person’s face. She could not recognize the person but her eyes furrowed from the sight resemblance of the person to Nathan Storm. She shrugged her shoulders, ridding herself of the thought of the possibility of it being him. She smiled gently from having a good ride home and walked into her apartment.

Immediately she got in, she had her bath and laid down on her bed to rest. She did not bother eating as she had already eaten from work before coming home. All she had to do was rest against the next day.

While laying down and listening to music from her phone, she fell asleep.

The loud buzzing from Demelza’s alarm clock woke her up which made her hiss in annoyance.

“Already…” she stressed, feeling morning had come quickly.

She dragged herself out of bed and prepared for work. She noticed she was a bit fatigued so she went into the kitchen and picked aspirin from the upper cabinet.

She immediately swallowed the aspirin as she could not afford to be a slug at work.

Check the time on her watch, she realized if she wasted any more minute, when would be late which made her rush out of the house immediately.

She decided to take a cab to work as her body could not take the stress of boarding a bus. Would be cheaper but the slower and more stressful for her.

In few minutes, she got to work and made her way inside. Everyone was already there and she could see some customers having coffee before they headed to work as it was still early.

Work went on fine for Demelza that day and less stressful too but she could not know what to make out of it when she saw the stranger that had given her a ride walk in.

Her heart skipped a bit when her eyes met her gaze. She stood there numb wondering why he had come of all other places to eat, why come to where she works? She asked herself feeling annoyed. She thought about how to deal with the awkward feeling from this. She moved her gaze to the order she was arranging. She felt the instant urge to ease herself from whatever this might be by acting busy.Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.

Demelza went ahead to serve the order to the customer and made her way back to the kitchen to check if the next order was ready. while she was in the kitchen, the man had found himself a table to sit at while he waited to see Demelza. Seated with his eyes roaming hoping to see Demelza, a waiter comes up to him to ask him for his order and then the man smiled looking around scanning the bustling restaurant Demelza.

A wide smile rested in his face immediately he sighted Demelza walking to a table with a tray in her hand.

“I want her to take my order,” the man told the waiter, nodding towards Demelza.

“Alright then, I’ll get her for you.” The waiter responded.

The waiter goes to get Demelza for the man which made Demelza have no other option than to fake a smile and walked towards his table.

“Good afternoon, mister,” Demelza greeted. “What is your order sir?” She asked trying to go straight to the point as she could not understand the smile on the man’s face.

“My name is Ethan, I didn’t come here to eat. I came here to see you and I will go straight to the point, alright? I really like you, and I cannot afford to let you slip away. Please, be my girl. You do not have to respond immediately, you can think about it. Here’s my card, you can reach me on that number,” he expressed, handing over his care to her. Her felt he had been forward enough and he wanted to let her call instead of calling her.

Demelza felt a mix of shock, amusement and confliction as she just stood there looking at the man not knowing what to say.

“And I have a request too, you can quit your job here and I’ll help you get a better and more rewarding job. You deserve it and more,” the man offered Demelza while her heart leaped for joy as a better paying job would mean more money to save her father but then her mind was conflicting as she felt it was weird for a stranger to offer her all of these instantly in the name of her becoming his girlfriend.

Nathan walked into the restaurant while Demelza was still standing there, yet to give him a reply.

The air thickened in tension as Nathan glared at the man.

Immediately the man caught sight of Nathan, his eyes widened and he hastily left as she knew Nathan and he feared him greatly. He couldn’t risk getting into his bad book.

Demelza stood there, perplexed, trying to make out what just happened.

She immediately began fuming as it felt like Nathan was a thorn in her flesh which felt very uncomfortable.

Nathan walked swiftly to her to speak to her but Demelza spoke before giving him the chance to say anything.

“Why the fuck do you do these things? Was it you yesterday? Damn it, Storm.” Demelza blurted, trying not to scream. “Stay the fuck away from me, you hear me? If you know you cannot be of any help to me, stay the fuck away,” Demelza said with a stern look but Nathan looked unbothered.

Feeling a bit embarrassed about the way Demelza spoke to him, he grabbed her by the hand and pulled her outside. Her colleagues and the customers in the restaurant were already watching. They all murmured wondering, what that was about.

Nathan dragged Demelza to the corner and pushed her against the wall with his eyes locked in hers like he was going to feed on her soul.

Demelza felt so shaken that she fell to the ground which made Nathan roughly drag her back up, holding her up and pinning her to the wall with his broad frame.

“Are you this desperate that you throw yourself at a random man just to seek for favours? You actually wanna give yourself out for free just to get your father released? I wasn’t wrong about you, you are just a cheap whore!” Nathan spat out insensitively.

Demelza felt extremely embarrassed and slapped him hard on the cheek. Nathan fist balled beside him, his eyes wide in shock.

Not again!
