First day…
As usual, Demelza’s 5am alarm woke her up again. but this time, she doesn’t hiss. Demelza opened her eyes and stared at the alarm clock for a few minutes before getting up to take a shower. She tried to be optimistic from the moment she opened her eyes as it was her first day at work.
She needed to make an impression because her interview was a shitty one. she wouldn’t want to make a mess of herself twice in a row. After taking her bath, she stood in front of her wardrobe as the morning light streamed through the window, illuminating the room.
Her stomach churned as a mix of anxiety and anticipation flushed her stomach. She looked thoroughly and carefully as she selected her clothes because she was specifically instructed to dress cooperatively as she would be working on the same floor with Nathan. Plus the fact that she wanted to make an impression without any particular reason, probably to boost her ego a bit.
After standing in front of her wardrobe for about five minutes, she finally selected a White chiffon button down shirt and a knee length navy blue pencil skirt. She hurriedly put them on and walked to her dresser to put in her jewelry. Being a lover of silver, she decided to go with a silver necklace and earring.
She packed her hair nicely in a center-parted ponytail and curled the tip of her hair. Neatly packed, her hair gave a sleek vibe which left her laying her edges. She did that with ease and turned to her shoe rack to select the shoe that’ll best go with her look.
Demelza reached for her penciled heels and wore them gently. After doing that, she stood up to look at herself in the mirror and she smiled from being impressed with herself.
Carefully accessing herself, she liked how her skirt hugged her curves exuding a sense of elegance at the same time posing professionalism. She sprayed perfume under her arm, two sides of her neck and lastly all around. Feeling pleased, she carried her bag and made her way out of the house hurriedly boarding a taxi. Anything to save time and arrive early at work that morning.
Demelza felt like the nervousness in her got stuck in her throat as she walked into the Law Firm. She took a deep breath and greeted the receptionist she had seen the previous day. She feared she arrived late as the office was already bustling, she could see some employees by the corner talking, keyboards clicking and she could also hear telephones ringing.
She took another breath in as she got into the elevator. Nathan’s office was on the top floor which means that she was headed to the top floor.
Finally, there, she made her way to the office of the man who had employed her the previous day as she needed to know her job description. She applied to be a file clerk but she didn’t understand why she would be working on the same floor as the CEO.
Except if they have an office for that on the top floor.’ she said to herself before knocking on the door of the man.
She knocked twice and opened the door. She carefully walks in trying not to twist her ankles from being on her uncomfortable heels. Heels aren’t her thing as it felt was quite uncomfortable which got her wondering how long she had to endure that.
“Good morning, sir.” Demelza greeted immediately she got into the man’s office.
“Good morning, have your seat please while I get done with this paperwork.” The man responded, clicking away on the laptop keyboards.
Demelza sat down and fed her eyes with every single detail of the office since she didn’t have enough the last time she was there. While she waited for him, she felt a bit chilly from the air conditioning. She couldn’t help but rub her arms and intervals trying to ward off the cold.Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.
“Are you cold?” The man asked her, noticing how she rubbed her arms at intervals.
“Yes, sir.” Demelza smiled as she responded though her cheeks turned pink from feeling slightly embarrassed.
“You better get used to it.” The man told her going back to his work.
At some point, Demelza got bored and a little bit irritated from sitting and watching him work.
“Finally done.” The man smiled and looked at Demelza. She kind of felt relieved as she observed the man is easy going and not hostile like she thought.
“You will be the Secretary to the CEO, Nathan Storms. You weren’t employed as a file clerk.” The man told her and her mouth went ajar from hearing that. Apparently, she didn’t see that coming.
“But, I thought _”
“Yeah, you thought but things changed. Feel free to refuse if you are not comfortable with that new development.” The man told her.
“No no, it’s fine. I can do it. I was just surprised because I didn’t think I would be qualified for that ” Demelza said as she wondered how she was going to survive being Nathan’s personal assistant. It felt like the world was closing in on her, from one deep shit to another.
“Good then, I’ll assume we are on the same page. My name is Ryan, and you will report directly to me when the boss isn’t around.”
“Okay, sir.” Demelza responded, trying to keep calm as she couldn’t risk anyone finding out about her and Nathan.
“I better introduce you to him and let him know you have resumed work. We do not have all day.” Ryan told her.
Ryan led the way to Nathan’s office and Demelza followed suit pretending she didn’t know the way. They both came to a halt immediately when they got to the office.
Mr Ryan knocked on Nathan’s door twice and then opened it. As the door went ajar, his eyes and Demelza’s eyes both widened immediately they caught sight of a beautiful yet petite lady on Nathan’s lap in the office.
“I can always come back later, I’m sorry, sir.” Ryan apologized, turning to leave but Demelza still stood eyes wide from what was on display.
“You are here already, you can spit it out..” Nathan said unmoved by Demelza’s presence as he acted like he had never seen him his entire life
“Your new Secretary just resumed work, I thought to let you know. Her name is Demelza Thorpes.” Ryan said with a little bit of fear.
Demelza noticed and immediately realized Nathan was indeed feared by all, making him such an arse in her eyes yet she couldn’t help but feel a sting of jealousy from seeing the girl on his lap.
