Chapter 56
Valerie’s POV
“Has Carson left already?” I asked anxiously as I walked out of the bathroom to see Janet serving lunch in my room.
“Yes, Valerie”. She replied. I felt a chill down my spine and remorse caressing my chin, I tried to hide the disappointment on my face but it was too obvious to be hidden. I had no right to be disappointed, I pushed him away-no! no! Why didn’t he persist? Why didn’t he wait until I was over my anger and then tell me about his trip before going? My thoughts were appearing as reactions on my face until I finally spoke out.
“Wait, he left without saying goodbye? He didn’t even tell me where he was going to” I blurted to Janet. She poured me some juice in a glass cup as I got dressed and handed it to me.
“You sound like his woman right now”
“Am I not?”
“Oh wow, look who agrees to being Carson’s woman for the first time” She teased, laughing in between her words. I was too hurt and displeased to banter words with her.
“I’m not joking, Janet!”
“Okay, since he just gave you a phone. Why not go ahead and call him?” She suggested
“No, never! I would not call Carson first. He’s going to think I missed him” I protested as I walked to my bed where lunch was served.
She didn’t utter a word, she just smiled and handed me my food.
“Lest I forget, I overheard Carson giving the order to allow your siblings to come sleepover” She informed
“He did?” I almost jumped up in excitement before I remembered I was still upset with him.
“Yes, he did. So you can call them to come over and thank him over the phone. You have a reason to call him now”
I ignored her and continued eating. Throughout the day I was battling with mixed emotions, It wasn’t the first time Carson was away from home on a trip but there was a haggle of emotions in my chest.
I picked up my phone and started saving some contacts I could remember by heart. Carson had saved him already, I remembered Dad’s number and Carmen’s.
“It’s time for your favorite show on TV, “Business Pitch Desk”. Janet yelled from the door, as she peeped through the small space she opened
“Alright, thanks” I replied indifferently. I wasn’t in the mood to watch any show. I decided to call Carmen, her company could come in handy now.
“Hello, Carmen! It’s Valerie. How are you doing?”This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Hey Valerie! You got a phone?” She screamed over the phone.
“Yeaah, Carson gifted me a phone,” I replied with excitement.
“Wow! Congratulations baby girl”
“Yea, I would love you and Gwen to come spend some days with me. Carson gave me permission to invite you guys for a sleepover.”
“I would really love to but…
“I’d come to spend some days, Val!” Gwen cut in before Carmen could finish. I was quiet, I would have preferred both of them or just Carmen but Gwen? She could be groggy and annoying sometimes. She was too materialistic to be alone with me for days-she’d fantasize over every single property in this house.
Carmen is my conscience and calm while Gwen is my alertness and greed. I hurried out of the room to ask the maids to prepare the guest room, they were already fixing dinner so there was no need to request.
I went back to my room and changed into a short flowery gown, Janet walked in and saw me getting dressed.
“Why does this feel like a deja vu?” She gave a puzzled look. I turned to her and smiled.
“Gwen is coming here and I don’t want to look all gloom and doom to her, so how do I look?” I asked with a big smile.
“You look good, let me help you with your hair” She offered. I sat down in front of the mirror and watched her pack my hair into a simple bun, she placed a flowery headband on my hair.
“Don’t you think this is a bit too much?”
“I don’t think so, you are Mr Carson’s beautiful princess and your sister should see you as such”
“It is not like I’m trying to show off though, I just don’t want to look shabby. Gwen can be very criticizing”
“I know right? I saw her expression the other day when I called you by your name”
“She’s not a bad person though.”
Janet was quiet, perhaps she disagrees with my comment. Does she think Gwen is a bad person? She only met her once, it’d be wrong for her to conclude. There was a moment of silence between us as she fixed my brows and rubbed some lip gloss on my lips.
“You’re such a beautiful lady Valerie” She complimented as she stood behind me starting at my image in the mirror.
“Thanks Janet, you are such a sweet person. You make me forget my pain”
“You are welcome Valerie”
“By the way, has Carson called to inform that he has gotten to his destination?”
“No, he hasn’t. Me Carson never calls to inform us of his whereabouts. Benson only calls on his arrival day to inform us what to cook for him”
“Where did he even travel to?”
“I really don’t know Valerie, how about you just call him if you are so worried”
“Why do you keep insisting I call him. I’the woman, he should call me first as a gentle man”
“No, he’s the one on a trip. You should be the one checking up on him”
I walked up to my bed, sat down and started pressing my phone. She was always so defensive of Carson like he pays her extra money to take his side. To think that Carson almost dealt with her because he thought she poisoned me yet she didn’t hate him but she met Gwen just one day and she thinks she’s a bad person.
“Hello! here comes the sister to the queen” Gwen called out as she entered the living room.
